Little bit misleading and somewhat incorrect retelling of stories where there is footage of it lol. It was a 2v1 on pronger, one guy hit him from the front while a second guy attempted to hit him from behind. Neither looked to try to go for his jaw, but hey i'll give him the benefit of the doubt the guy he was going head on with tried it. Looks like the impact from the head-on check pushed pronger backwards into the guy coming at him from behind, knocking him down. The guy grabs prongers foot yes, but between his two shins. Probably unexpected at first but he was easily able to pull his foot out, as you would be since you aren't going to be clamping that heavily between your shins.. The way he shows himself squeezing with his arms and hands and saying 'wrapped his legs around me' is also just straight up a lie. He then decided to retaliate and stomp (not kick or push) his leg.. The fact he can't be honest all these years later makes him pretty unlikable.. It's like a child lying when it's their word against another's, except at this point they're verifiably wrong. To the weird point he makes about the sock not being cut: Anyone who's played knows that skates aren't sharp in that direction, it wasn't like he was going to chop his leg or something but it definitely hurt considering where he got him. The sides of the shin pads don't have great protection and it was worse back then. It's more a blunt force impact than a chopper. It didn't cut the sock because his skate didn't slide on the sock.. That is how socks get cuts in hockey because that is the only direct skates are sharp in.. If you press your blade down on your hand it wouldn't feel nice, but its not going to cut you.. If you push down and slide it.. then it may cut you.. Was it a huge deal? Not really, it was just immature and obvious retaliation for a holding call (that didn't get called). I would be surprised if the guy didn't have a bruise in the shape of a line going down his shin but I wouldn't expect serious injury. So he's correct it was made it a big deal of, it's just sad he can't be honest about how it went down.. Edit* Actually there is more context in that the amount given was probably in relation to his past record of disciplinary action.. He got 8 games but it was also his 8th and final suspension. It wasn't 8 games just for what he did but because of his record, and probably due to the even more aggregious Chris Simon stomp which got 30 games. Simon initiated the entire interaction which was what made it so much worse, but to then say that his suspension was unprecedented is silly. Now he is trying to turn it around as if he just got a longer suspension than normal without including the fact they were penalizing him in regard to his record. It was his 8th suspension in his 14th NHL season which means he averaged over a suspension every other season - or he got suspended in over 50% of the seasons he played in up until this point. It was probably a message to him that if his previous disciplinary action wasn't enough to change his ways then he would be given worse penalties.
