Love all these builds.
Wow thank you so much for this (as well as all your other builds!). I can't believe how much fun I'm having with this Holy Slayer build. Subscribed :)
This build is legit. I'm not even following it to the letter and I had to up the game difficulty because I was walking through encounters.
"Then begin with one of your flames of devotion to the dome™ like you always do." That made me laugh out loud.
Thanks for the guide! This sounds like a hoot!
Cool, I imported a portrait of Corvo Attano from "Dishonored" and I made this build. His name sounds italian and I think his title was "Lord Protector" which is a little like how some of the Paladin companies can function, plus most of the sailors have an Italian accent. The steampunk aesthetic works well too and Corvo also had a Ship/Boat as a base in Dishonored. Anyways "Holy Slayer" rogue/paladin was the build I went with before I saw this guide. I won't copy it to the letter because I feel like Corvo should have a blade & blunderbuss in PoE but I've learned a lot from this guide.
Fighter (Devoted)/Rogue (Assassin) is very similar and what I've been playing. Fighter has a modal stance that gives them bonus accuracy, and they have an instant buff that increases both accuracy and later upgrades to convert hits to crits. Then you also have penetrating strike which is bonus damage and penetration. Then you also get weapon specialization for more damage.
The way elemental damage scales I'm not sure how it compares in damage, but it has more accuracy and critical chance/convert. Also, just to note if you don't want to cheese every encounter like this you can play encounters normally with a party and get off point blank backstabs with the rifle.
This look so fun.
I LOVE the look and feel of this build. Its the perfect RP'ing character for me. Couple questions though:
1. Can you solo the entire game with this build? specifically on Veteran?
2. Can you replace flames of devotion with other similar skills from other classes? like Cypher's whip? it also gives you a 20 percent.
Haven't soloed the whole game with it, but I've made it a long ways. The fact that you can always leave combat if you need makes it pretty hard to die. Flames is the overall best skill because of the way damage is calculated, so you'll want to have this one for sure.
Really nice build, high single DPS it's the way to go with a undying tank
I would love to see a Transcendent melee build!
You guys should do a wildrhymer with sharpshooter ranger and beckoner chanter. I plan on playing one soon and it seems like it'd be a really strong solo build especially right at the start where you can have eight bodies even though you're solo then leveling faster because the experience won't be divided between party members and later on get lots of gun synergies to power up some arquebus sniping and maybe throwing in some offensive invocations for fun
Console release, is this build still viable?
I want to play this but not solo, with a story party. Is it worth it? If not, what other good rogue build is out there?
so... make one of these, rush to port maje, make 4 more at the tavern... win game, got it!
I am just starting out in May 2023, is this build still viable in the game present day? Love your guides, thanks very much!
I’m wondering this as well even though it’s 2024, did you use this build and if so how’d did it go?
holly mother of GODDDDDDDDD
Is the -85% reload time after the first shot a bug? Because I can´t seem to find any information about a skill or game mechanic that has anything to do with that. I feel like I´m missing something here...
Great guide by the way!
It's not a bug. You just gain -85% recovery time on your first attack from stealth.
How does this work very early game where we have shit accuracy? I want to solo POTD with this.
Have you considered building a Greatsword-wielding Cleric (Berath/Devoted)? I'd like to know if it would even work and can't find anything like on the interwebz :)
Suggestion: Do the Arcane Knight build, you can actually solo POTD without any stealth cheese. Bleak Walker / Evoker with Explosives skills, priority on Might, Perception, Inteligence. You can find it somewhere on the forums. You just buff in an instant, aoe with your spells/bombs and whatever survives u finish off with a Flame of Devotion. Because of the high Inteligence/Might, Lay on Hands heals for a huge amount/duration. Pretty much a god build, also there is a variation of the build with 210+ deflection which I think makes it immortal.
Lorand Leon that sounds like a lot of fun especially since I've been wanting an excuse to use explosives as a major character function
Would love to see transcendent (monk/cypher)
Time to RP that sniper from Saving Private Ryan.
Is this still viable ? Game just released on console and I'm looking for a good ranged rouge to play and this looks to be what I'm looking for
I''ve been running a similar build except a kind wayfarer (for RP reasons) and I've foun that arquebus greatly reduces crit damage due to blunted criticals, is there any reason to not use the ranged weapons that don't have that penalty?
Note: I'm playing him in a party, I use him to scout and than to try to take out or greatly damage one of the enemies and kite the mob into my optiamlly arranged party (who yeah I've heavily relied on the AI system so I can pay more attention to my slayer who makes good use of smoke veil to get a couple more assassinates until he runs out than swaps to the bow that has rapid shot...hunting iirc)
You can use other weapons, I just found this one to deal the highest single shot damage of all of them.
Arquebus negates the default +25% critical damage increase with it's own -25%. However, critical strikes can be amplified in many ways so that you are still getting a significant bonus. The thing that makes the arquebus so good is that it's base damage is higher than any other weapon, has a low range of damage so it's average damage is higher, and the significant boost to accuracy from turning it's modal on helps you critical more.
With the new updates and reduction to flames of devotion, is this build effective anymore? Also rogue skills have become much better in this update. What about devastating blow?
Yes it still works fine, you just hit slightly less hard.
Do you still get invisible when using smoke cloud and smoke grenade?
Nice
Chanter monk with modwyr and the singing sword.
Do we know how much extra Crit assassins get? Wish they provided numbers for those sub bonuses.
+50%
I came into a fight were you cannot end the battle to recover resorces and the enemy is immune to pierce and burn damage, you wont stand a chance on melee with this build unless you respec for specific fight such as this.
Edit: I am playing solo
That is the beauty for "all or nothing" type of builds. You can get creative, also since you need to pick only so few skills and specialities along the way you can spec into alternative ranged weapons to help with these situations. Also, could stock up on explosives, traps, summoning items. At the very least hire a temporary party at the tavern. Consider them mercenaries you got for just one job. And since you are a paladin with somewhat cruel disposition...you could kill them in the end. To get rid of the witnesses if you were doing something nefarious(make sure you did, so this roleplay holds some merit). I hope this helps. Most likely not, but this is how I would try and deal with the situation.
Pretty sure crits with guns actually do LESS damage at the moment due to blunted criticals, so maybe don't focus on them too much.
Crits still do extra damage. It's just worded that way. Think of it this way - they do less EXTRA damage than other weapon types.
Maybe a patch has changed this but as far as being newb friendly, it is not at all. Boss fights and rogues make early levels almost impossible.
Curious to see how the next patch will change the difficulty. Currently potd is so broken. Not really fun.
Koeras the game is hard now!
Can I use Kind Wayfarer instead of Bleak Walker to be less of a dick? Will it affect the build much?
So how viable would a sharpshooter/assassin be?
It would be viable, the issue you will have is that you won't hit as hard, but you could potentially kill 2 targets with one shot.
How would a Ranger Sharpshooter/Assassin measure up against a Bleak Walker/Assassin? I would think that a Sharpshooter/Rogue would make a good "Oswald" sniper build...
Its a multiclass?:0 ...sorry Bro,im new in this game, help me
Greetings from Argentina
So if I play this solo, then my party members don’t get any xp right?
I think party members scale up to your level in this game.
If its the same as the last game then any party member should be your level when you get them but if you get them and don't use them then they will not gain any xp
But you'll also gain xp faster solo because in a party xp gets divided out among all party members
When I switched in my unused party members, they scaled up to my main character's level though.
A build for people who just fucking despise fun.
Be nice if you could dual with arbalust ...
I feel like these guys have a gun fetish
TheCNotes1 hey guns are cool how much somebody touches themself while listening to them fire is none of your business unless you wanna get involved
"This build makes a mockery of any real challenge in this game"
SOUNDS FUN... What? Do, we actually want the game that was made because people said games were too easy to become too easy? Isn't that just a bit, ass-backwards?
That's just the way of things man. Half the reason people spend so much time theorycrafting/etc is for this exact reason. Theres more than one way to have fun
Yeah.. this build is strong but i've tried solo and got shit on :(
Is this still viable?
Definitely.
This build sucks, the arb takes FOREVER to reload and its only pierce damage so skele's immune... a ROD seems to work so much better lol.
Nerfed
Making a mockery... well the game's too easy to begin with.
Slow-wipe then play on path of the damned
TheCNotes1 tbf POTD has not been balanced properly yet, atm it is easier than it should be. A fix will be coming in 2 weeks though.
Totally not this build: forums.obsidian.net/topic/101274-class-build-bleak-huntress-holy-slayer-ranged-sniper-assassin-build/
It's not cool to copy others.
Are you accusing me of copying or them? I'm confused. fextralife.com/pillars-of-eternity-2-builds-guides-holy-slayer/ . The date on my written version of the Guide is May 19th.That's a full 10 days before the one you linked...
