So glad to see you safe and back! Also NGL. My plan with Out of the Abyss is to actually just cut the first part of the book out entirely. My group has a weird history where I have a couple of modules thrown into one. But they did the waterdeep dragon heist with some elements of Acquisitions Incorporated woven in. So they had a rival team that was a non-antagonistic and actually friendly with them but just happened to be another adventuring group. While they are doing Tomb of Annihilation storyline I was going to have the rival team be involved in out of the Abyss as the victim prison break portion. One of the crew died and their body wasn't recovered. So they were tasked with just the second part of the adventure. The going back down and getting things done part.
Just wow, this brings back sweet memories of me playing 1st and 2nd edition (and hybrids of our own making) decades ago with a group of friends. Internet wasn't even a thing back then. Had we great sources of knowledge like your vids, I'm sure we would be playing still. It's great that you're doing this. Thank you, amice :)
in the new dnd movie it was great to see this dragon (themberchaud), but there were no dwarves in the movie (sad face). Still a good part to watch. I like the conection of demons running lose and the TOEE. These tie in nice together. The 5e rework for toee does not really focus on demons much as it is for under lvl 8, and a rebuilding temple. But I would like to use them showing the TOEE has support from evil gods and demon lords. OotA gives me a good reason to place them as I like, even in the human cities if I want.
When I played Out of the Abyss, we stole the egg and raised the dragon as our own (we named him Ruby) and slayed the Keepers of the Flame so Themberchaud could take over the city. We also built the first ever theme park in the Underdark. Best game I ever played in.
I ran Out of the Abyss as written. it was aight. I'm about to run some mini campaigns that exist exclusively in the Gracklstugh chapter. I'm super hyped to explore all of the aspects of the city OOTA conveniently ignores!
So glad you're back! I've been preparing for Out of the Abyss for a month and were about to run session one this weekend! 😅😅 Im excited but terrified. Any tips on killing off NPCs if they get too clunky? I plan on using a companion system for them giving PCs bonus actions but my players are also responsible for tracking maddness, pursuit, food. I don't want them to feel like theyre working/babysitting every session 😂😂
Thanks! I killed off the orc in the fight with the spiders during the escape. Then another NPC got killed by the crazy derro at night while camping, in a scary ritualistic way. It turned into a small investigation encounter, and eventually the party confronted the derro and had to kill him. Sarith, the drow, just ran away to Neverlight Grove.
thank you for the great content I assume you know that every time there has been a change in dnd editions, they use a tool like the obelisk (*see spell plague) so this told me a while back "one dnd" IS a new edition, no matter what they say. just my thoughts....
The main argument towards One D&D (btw they call it differently now, D&D revised or something like that???) not being the new edition, is that it's backwards compatible with the current edition.
@@LutesDice if i remember, 2e was compatible with 1.5 (unearthed arc) although that was not a selling point. you could run any 1e characters in 2e mods, you just would not have some features a 2e would have. tht was a long time ago, and I would appreciate any feed back from those that remember better.
I just bought OOTA today and your summaries and tips are very helpful. Are you able to organise them into a playlist so I know when your next one is out? Looking forward to checking out your music for this too
My players decided to keep the egg for themselves and kill thaumberchaud... I want there to be consequences for this but I'm not sure what they should be. any ideas?
how did they kill an adult red dragon? my dude is there like 10PCs at level 8-10 or did you just let them live for fear of upsetting players that WOULD die, like instantly. Either way the King and the Keepers of the flame would defo be after your party. throwing assasins at them. bounties on thier heads etc. it sounds mad to me that at the level they should be (around 5) to take on Themberchaud and win is a strange move. If you worry over TPKs just knock them all out and have them imprisoned (Maybe some nasty scars) it will help a party take situations more seriously or fear consiquences. Hell i would have rolled for which ones died outright from the flames/crushed.
Glad ur back 😊

thank you for these videos, they're helping me run oota, but can I be blunt and request a darklake guide ? thanks!
Thanks!
What exactly are you interested in? Sloobludop?
@@LutesDice tbh, I commented before reading the 3rd chapter, ig it doesn’t really need a guide lol.
Welcome Back! Glad you are back
Yaaay! The returning of the cute Folkard 😍
Oh stop it you
Great video Folkard! Your videos are a great resource for the broader D&D community
Very usefull. Thank you very much, that was fantastic
Glad to see you!

I think another purpose of the obelisk is for Ylsa Henstak's quest. The derro somehow summon surface coins with it.
Great to see you post. 🇺🇦
Thanks
