Jenny, you've got the best towel boy on the planet! Jerry cracked me up when he ran in with a towel to wipe your glistening face. Your patio area is looking incredibly gorgeous, and that flagstone pathway is so inviting! The 'Encore' Azaleas and the 'Invicibelle Ruby' Hydrangeas, will make that area even more beautiful! The humidity here has been awful too. I start working outside and turn into a drippy mess within minutes. The Power Planter shirt, with the wet-Tshirt message, is a cute and clever advertising idea. If Creekside ever decides to sell merchandise, you may want to borrow that idea! ~Margie
I deal with very hard Virginia clay. For anyone like me, who has found that they are not strong enough to dig holes with a big auger like Jenny is using, try multiple stabs with a small, 1 3/4" to 2" auger to make the hole instead. Use it with a good drill with a handle. I find that I can dig a big hole using multiple stabs with a skinny auger way faster and easier than one stab with a big auger. It navigates the rocks and clay better for me.
This is the first year I've used the Bio-Tone starter fertilizer. What a game changer! I really think it's made a difference in our plants! Jennie from Tennessee
Hi Jenny and Jerry!! Love you guys!! Your property is beautiful!!! You are so real and informative!! It is a pleasure to watch your videos!! Have a wonderful day and yes.........I know what that humidity feels like!!! LOL! Hugs! :)
Jenny, love the message t-shirt! I can see this bed is going to be glorious come Spring! It's beautiful now. It's so nice to see Jerry helping with all the work. Be blessed!🙂
When I’m planting and don’t want to mess up my mulch I put a small tarp next to the hole and pile my dirt on it to keep mulch pretty. I also pile up my mulch on the other end. When I’m through it doesn’t leave any mess with mixing dirt with mulch. The plants look so pretty. Perfect addition to the bed.
🌺What a great video! I love azaleas but they were always hard for me to keep alive (when I was in my Wisconsin home). It’s been a bad summer for heat and humidity here in southeast Michigan, so many storms follow the heat wave. I wish I knew where you lucky ladies got your gentlemen - I missed out on that giveaway! 😂. You and Jerry are blessed in your togetherness 💛💚💙💜🦋
Bless your heart! I hate that humidity when we get it here in New England, so I know of what you speak! It wipes me out. Glad to see him step in to your aid 🙂
don't have a big ole auger but I do have a smaller version from Power Planter that I absolutely love. great for those 4" cans and bulbs - makes the gardening life so much easier and quicker, too !!! nice to see your patio garden coming into its glory - I can only imagine what it will look and smell like next year - fabulous !!! thanks for all the info and insipiration ...
This is why I like your posts… TN has the same soil and the outdoor sauna summers. Your planting design is more simple and beautiful. Digging holes for us petites takes 15 minutes as opposed to our big, strong men 2 minutes. Love and appreciate when my husband has time to help with my over purchasing of plants. I really thought your husband was going to turn on the sprinklers. I also agree, he has nice legs!-)
I live in southern Arizona where our native soil is a combination of sand and caliche rock. It's fairly common for us to need to rent a jackhammer as well as a caliche bar in order to dig holes for plants. Caliche is a sedimentary rock that's like concrete, we have to dig below the caliche on order for water to drain. The soil is also very alkaline. I do a lot of gardening in grow bags as a result, it's easier and I can easily move the grow bags around to find a good spot for individual plants. Plant tags may say full sun but few are full Arizona low desert sun. Even my sweet potato vines are under shade cloth and will be until the daytime highs get out of the 105+ range. The heat index was 112 today and summer is just getting started. It hit 120 last June/ July
Totally understand the humidity. Even here in the northeast, the humidity turns you into a big pile of melted goo. On the bright side, you and your garden are still beautiful. I hope you folks are taking time to enjoy this incredible space.
Jerry to the rescue “ dab Jenny’s sweat away”. Yes, the humidity feels like a weight on you. A company has their guys putting new shingles on a big Church near me! All I can say is God Bless them. Summer in South Carolina, ya’ll.😥
I just had a new roof installed on a very hot day. It was confirmed I'd hired the right company when I saw they provided a big cooler filled with cool drinks for the team.
Looks great! Right there with you and the intense humidity, I was just picking tomatoes from the garden early this morning and I came in drenched with sweat (it's to the point now when I work outside I have to change clothes three times a day).
Hi Jenny & Jerry ; I can’t wait to see all flowering and growing 🙌everything looks amazing 🤩 worth all the gardening effort 👌thank you for this wonderful video guys 🥰👒🦘🐨🇦🇺🐝💐Karen
lol...gotta love Jerry....making sure his Jenny isn't all shiny on the vlog your garden is starting to look just how I imagined it...whites, and pinks and looking whispy and magical....looking forward to the end of the summer to see all the growth and the fountain doing it's thing....good job
The two of you play well together and it gets the job done faster. I hope my garden center has some of those Invincibelle Ruby Hydrangeas when they open up again in September. Greetings from Western Massachusetts
I am sure if Laura came to visit and was out in our humidity she would start wearing her hair up or in a pony tail. Nobody can understand gardening in it until they have actually done it. Been brutal here in Greenville SC this last week. I got sweaty just watching you LOL!
I love the encore azaleas! I picked up 2 white a month ago and they are still in their cans. After watching you plant yours I know where I want mine now. What is that grass planted in front of them? I like that too! I’ll be waiting til evening or maybe even morning to start…also 7b here in north Alabama in the Tennessee Valley…too humid to breathe at the moment.
Great job you two and so early in the morning I also like to do my gardening early mornings we've had vert hot weather here but not as hot as you have thanks for all the tips regards from the South East Coast of Ireland
It’s looking great!! I know how you feel with the humidity. In Northern Indiana and the humidity here is horrid!! Tonight supposed to get bad storms and cold front to the rescue!!
You have such a gorgeous variety of plants. I’m heading off plant shopping this weekend to add a new flower bed near my vegetable garden. I’m on the hunt for hydrangeas but might look for some azaleas now also. Thanks for sharing!
Without Power Planter, we would not have been able to plant the 1000+ bulbs in the ground last fall. This is absolutely must if you are planning on planting en masse. BTW Highly recommend Miss Saori bigleaf hydrangea if you are looking for colored foliage and bloom color...
So pretty, did anyone else think when Jerry popped in with that tan towel that it was a puppy he was showing off..... 😆🤣 Its gonna be a scorcher in StL today and tomorrow, might even break a 100 yr old record! Uggggg Stay cool and love the hidden messages on the shirt. Much love ❤❤ StL Missouri 6a
Today should be the last day of a very long spell of hot weather. Heat indices say we'll feel about 105 to 110 degrees Fahrenheit here in Minneapolis. Time to soak in my tub/pool to cool off. (I don't have A/C in my house. Next year, the good Lord willing.)
I can’t wait to see them all in full bloom! 💗 I live in WV. And the humidity is the same way .. feels like you just walked into a 500 degrees oven ! 🥵🥵🥵
Just something I got from Laura of Garden Answer that I think is a great idea, which is removing the first plant from it's can and using the can to hold your native soil when you create the hole. You can then continue with the same idea for the subsequent holes or just reuse the same can
Your patio area looks awesome! Thanks for the tips on planting those flowering shrubs. What are the white flowers that are planted with the drift of gaura in the bed with the azaleas? Those two plants compliment each other so well!
Thank you! Those are Angelface ‘Super White’ Angelonias. I tell you all about them & the other annuals in this video! ruclips.net/video/XXjs5AXu2CQ/видео.html
It is horrible up in Illinois also! We have been trying to get landscaping done. I work a little in the mornings and run inside to a cold shower! Your landscaping is beautiful! Is the new fountain running yet? I would love to see it!
I bought a 'Quickfire' hydrangea back in May and FINALLY got it planted. I was waiting for the delphiniums to stop blooming so I could transplant them and put the hydrangea in their place. Probably not the best time to plant. We're on even/odd water restrictions due to severe drought. I can't even muster strength to go outside and check on them. 🔥
This week our temps have been mid 90’s with heat index being 105-108. It’s HOT. basically all we have been doing is the hay and what absolutely has to be done.
I understand PW standard for hibiscus and hydrangeas is 3 gallon containers. Please hear your customers PW I would love one gallon containers to be offered as well. I have a disability and that big of hole is hard for me to dig. Also, I have established flower beds that won't accommodate a three gallon hole. Everything looks great!
I’m not making a nasty comment, but it must be nice to be able to go shopping at your greenhouse, to pick out anything you want, when you want and plant it. To have all of the great plants available to you and when you see an area that is not quite right just go up and get what you want. Again not being rude, but to have all of those plants available to you must be a dream come true. It would be for me💚🙃
It definitely is. I understand that we are in an extremely unique situation to have access to so many plants, and it is a massive plus to what we do. It is a wonderful reward for the past 15 years of blood, sweat, & tears 😊
Sadly, I am going to pull my Encore azaleas as I’ve experienced two years of heavy lace bug infestation. I live in Tennessee (zone 7A), and my neighbors beside me and across the street also are having major issues with lace bugs. I’ve sprayed them with a Bonide product, but I’ve stopped as I normally spray in the late evening, but can’t as I don’t want to harm the lightening bugs. Honestly, I’m excited as I think I’m going to plant dwarf hydrangeas and I’m ready for a change. .
Hi Jenny! Your garden is looking amazing!! I need a little help, I live in SC and I've noticed some kind of bug has been eating the petals on some of my flowering perenials. Would you happen to know what kind of bug does that and how to treat it or prevemt it? Thanks so much!!
Unfortunately it could be a whole list of bugs. I would inspect your plants at various times of day & evening to see if you can spot a critter. Depending on what you find will determine what product to use.
Hey Jenny, the two of you work so well together! You both make such a great team. I have a question for you. I'm getting ready to plant 7 Firepower Nandinas, so should I use the same method and materials that you did for planting your Azaleas and Hydrangeas? We live in Michigan, zone 6a and we have clay also but it's not red like yours. I looked up Black Gold on Amazon but I'm not sure which one you used. Thanks for all the videos that you provide for all of us. They're so helpful! God bless.
Good morning, Jenny! So enjoy your videos! Help please! I’m zone 8A Clinton, MS, and live on a shaded suburban lot. Side yard gets 3-3 1/2 hours sun so I have my veggies and roses there. Remainder of yard is shade and dappled sun for 2-3 hours. I so desire to add hydrangeas to my front and to my back yards. What are the best shade tolerant hydrangeas? Thinking maybe Big Daddy, LA Dreaming, or Incrediballs.
I have an Endless Summer Bloomstruck (I believe). It specified 2-3 morning hours. It only gets about 3’ or so in size. Unfortunately I’ll have to rehome them in the Fall. I was fooled by the sun early in the year and they’re getting baked way longer than morning hours here.
@@nancytaylor6956 No, I don’t recall, sorry. It’s probably 10 years old now and at least six feet tall and wide. It has large white panicle flowers that become soft pink as they age. And the leaves turn bronze in the fall. It really makes a statement! I don’t think I’ve ever seen more than a few varieties though, like “Alice” or “Gatsby Gal”. Check locally at your area garden centers to see what they stock or can recommend. 😊
I am down near Athens, GA in 7b. I removed some 30 year old box woods and planted encore azaleas (autumn sunset) and they haven't bloomed in 2 years. They have grown some and look healthy. I did add some general purpose fertilizer this year (twice) but did not give them fertilizer for azaleas. They are in front of my house which faces north, so they are shaded most of the day, but get afternoon sun for about 5-6 hours. I bought some azalea fertilizer and plan to use it. When do you recommend I start (now or in the spring) and how often. I'm hoping this is the solution, but was wondering if they do not bloom next year, what would be your recommendation? I do have other plants around the azaleas (dianthus, celosia, and some salvia/sage) and they did bloom very well this year.
I bought them two years ago and they were small and haven't grown a lot. They also haven't bloomed but a few flowers. Less than 10 flowers in 5 plants.
@@meharris0925 if they are in mostly shade then that’s probably the problem. Encore azaleas are considered full sun plants so they need a minimum of 5-6 hours of good, direct sun.
@@GardeningwithCreekside what foundation plants would you recommend I replace them with? The hostas burnt to a crisp in the sun. My limelight and regular mop heads were toasty from the afternoon sun.
I bought two same plants from Home Depot. Blooming lot. I also bought tool from Amazon. But one hand with battery. Used one time. Front part dropped a few times. Didn’t work. Your tool with two hands. Should be more stable. What is name tool ? I want to purchase one.
Hello Jenny. I plant in clay soil also and I purchased a Invincibelle spirit II about 2 months ago. It's not looking too good. Some leaves are yellowing and it's not producing new leaves. I planted it in full sun and I used biotone then. I planted it slightly above ground but has now settled and looks like it might be a little under flushed level. Should I uprooted and see if it's getting too wet or just give it fertilizer and wait? Or replant it and set it higher? I don't want to loose it. Please help! Thank you
What zone are you & is it receiving consistent water? It certainly won’t hurt to dig around it to check the soil moisture level. My first guess is that it is not getting enough water (based on the yellow leaves & the time of year that we are currently in).
I loved when Jerry smelled the dirt.
Quality check at its most basic level 😉
Wow its amazing how in such a short amount of time you guys have totally transformed the patio area...BEAUTIFUL!!!
Thank you friend! Next time you’re in town I’d love to show it to you!

Great gardening lessons this morning. Thanks. The t-shirt is very cool. You should develop a design for your garden center with hidden messages.
Can we take a minute to talk about how much muscles on Jerry's legs? Such a gentleman.💚

Yes, I said to myself look at Jerry's muscles popping. Girl you had the nerve to say it.

God bless.
GOOD LOOKING DRILL MOTOR
I know they die back, but some of those hibiscus with the dark leaves pink blooms would look great amongst the hydrangeas.
That shirt is everything. 😂
Isn't it awesome?!
Do you have t-shirts or cups with Creekside Nursery on them for sale?
Our t-shirts will be available on all of our social media outlets hopefully by next week. We will let you know!!!
Whew! Hard love.
Hello from southern Ohio 👋
Hello Jenny and Jerry Love you channel .. I have a question I have a driveway that are lined with pine trees what can I plant under them ? Thanks
What zone are you? I would recommend visiting your local garden center as they can best assist you in picking the perfect plants for your climate.
I feel your pain Jenny about the humidity here in eastern NC. 🥵
May I offer a suggestion? I have an oak leaf hydrangea in a very shady area that is very happy.
@@sallyrichardson4082 thank you so much! Do you know the variety? I’m making notes before a decision is made.
When did you prune them?
@@GardeningwithCreekside l have not pruned them as they were small when I bought them. They have grown really slow in my opinion.
Do you have to amend the soil on a yearly basis or just when you’re going to plant?
Btw I bought some of the black gold compost you recommended in another video and it has done wonders for my flower bed 🥰
@@GardeningwithCreekside . I'm in Raleigh NC. Zone 7b. I water it every other day unless we get rain then I skip watering.
@@mariap6382 hmmm, I would keep doing what you are doing until fall & then move it to a spot that gets some afternoon shade (if that’s possible).
@@GardeningwithCreekside Ok, thank you. I'll do that. Should I fertilize it and if so what do you recommend for hydrangeas in general.
@@mariap6382 strangely enough, lots of our influencers recommend Rose Tone for hydrangeas
I loved your beautiful garden.....it's awesome 👌😎🥰🥰🥰plz stay connected with our gardener family 🙏🙏😊🌿🍂👍
Did I see Jerry smell the dirt 😂😂!?
Yes!! We are super picky about our compost. A good indication of quality compost is the smell. It should smell sweet, never sour 😁
