GENTRI helps with this touching surprise for a local Army veteran on hospice

EastIdahoNews.com and Ashley in Idaho Falls and Pocatello are partnering to honor people in our community for Feel Good Friday. Every week, we surprise someone deserving of special recognition.
We are proud to honor veterans this month and we recently learned about a Sugar City native named Nyle Garn who has lived a fulfilled life. Nyle served in the US Army from 1958-1960 and was then recalled from 1961-1962. He returned to eastern Idaho and he and his wife went on to have six kids, 31 grandkids and 38 great-grandchildren.
Nyle is now on hospice and we wanted to thank him for all he's done with the help of the musical group GENTRI.We arranged a surprise with his family but Nyle had no idea we were about to show up and leave him with a special song and some gifts. Watch the video in the player above!

I live in the UK and I thank you sir for your service I’m 66 and I have lived a free life due to veterans like you. Again thank you to all veterans and service people for your service.

Nyle was my high school football coach and also my neighbor. He is a good man, and he has a good wife.
Nate I watch you a lot, I’m from Texas. Imy husband was injured (he stepped on a land mine) it’s a long story, he died in April 20, 2011, love him bunches and I still talk to him daily. I spent 7 years in Army. My mom was a Marine and my father was a fighter pilot in Air Force and was shot down in Germany became a MIA then became a POW. But what I wanted to tell you is that both of my sister Mike Davis 20 years in AIr Force & Debbie Davis spent 4 or 5 years in Army, they live in Idaho Falls. We are not very, especially me, functional, so I’m just letting you know my whole family serviced our country 🇺🇸God Bless all who gave & fought for our Country.

My Father was a WW2 Army 10th MTN DIV company C 87th and fought the nazis in Italy and came home a wounded Veteran and I grew up with a wheel chair . Cains and fake leg and braces and understood what my father gave up for our country and he passed 11/8/90 and I am a 100% disabled cold war Navy veteran and I want to thank you for the things you do for us Veterans.
May the God of Hosts bless this man and ease his passing. Thank you, Lord, for his family legacy.

in Incirlick AB Turkey . 1986 .
That was a beautiful tribute. This made me cry. My grandfather served in WWII. My father served in the Air Force. I can’t thank the Veterans enough. Thank you Gentri for that amazing singing.

This man reminds me so much of my father. My father was in the first wave to land on Omaha Beach. Out of the 50 men on his landing craft only 6 made it to shore. This man is so humble as my father was about his time in the service.

Song was originally sang by Lee Greenwood. A few other artists sing it occasionally...love the song, should be the National Anthem LOL.
I got to go on a field trip several years ago with my daughter and her fourth grade class. We were on the school bus with the children chattering excitedly and the radio playing overhead. It was very loud! Suddenly the song "I'm proud to be an American" came on the radio. ALL the children stopped talking and sang together. It was very touching to me and I've never forgotten. Thank you Veterans and Service Men and Women!

My dad retired CMSGT after 30 years USAF... veteran of WWII, KOREAN 2X AND VIETNAM WAR.
He was proud of the USA 🇺🇸 my grandson (23 yrs old) is following in his Pawpaw's footsteps and is Loadmaster USAF for C-130 Hercules. I pray for and LOVE 💖 ALL our military men and women, ALL branches for their safety. 🙏🙏🙏
