Young father holds back tears as a Secret Santa grants his wish of being a full-time teacher

The EastIdahoNews.com team is busy helping a local Secret Santa give $1 million to deserving people in eastern Idaho this holiday season. Every day, from now until Christmas, we will post videos of the recipients being surprised with these life-changing gifts.
Cason recently started teaching music part-time at an Idaho Falls elementary school. He also supports his family by working at a warehouse in the evenings. He has a very hectic schedule to balance with a wife and three children under 4 years old, two who have cystic fibrosis.
The students and staff adore Cason. He is energetic, creative and often puts in personal time for planning lessons. He has a beautiful singing voice. He is able to keep the kids' attention the whole time and one teacher once said, "It is hard to follow after Mr. Smitty! He has so much charisma!"
Cason's heart is at the school with music but because the position is part-time and he doesn't have a teaching certificate, he is preparing to leave to find a full-time job.
Secret Santa asked the East Idaho News elves to drop off a life-changing gift for Cason while he was in the middle of teaching class. Watch the video above to see the surprise!

This made me think of my favorite teacher back in the day. He was cherished like this by everyone in the school and for good reason. He even helped me find my own place when my parents died and he didn't want me to be on the streets. It's been almost 15 years since then but I still think about him a lot. Good teachers can truly change a kids life!

'We wernt going to have much of a Christmas this year'. The fact that Mr smitty said this when he didn't know the cameras were still rolling and in such a hushed tone in front of the kids is a testament to how he keeps up beat for them when clearly things are tricky. Yes! It's often the most cheerful people who are also struggling the most. They don't want to burden others with their problems and do everything to at least make the lives of those around them just a little better. It's so heartwarming to see the love returned to those kinds of people. It proves that being good is still rewarded and appreciated, even though people like him will never demand aynything in return and are good just for the sake of being good. That's why they deserve it the most!

Great dad! Working two jobs to help his beautiful family out! I work two jobs myself and it’s a burnout. Always adding kids into the mix makes things that much more of a challenge but worth the reward!

I think it’s a tribute to Dobby from the Harry Potter books. There’s a quidditch board on the wall as well.
For those who don’t know, a single sock was what gave Dobby freedom and I think this teacher is saying that knowledge and learning gives you freedom.
I'm 72 years old but I can still remember what a special teacher meant to me and I could tell that's how those children feel about this teacher. I do hope he is able to quickly return to them. Thank you, Secret Santa for making that even a possibility. Thank you, Nate and crew, for making it possible for us to witness these heartwarming stories.

It's super obvious that Smitty has a heart for children and belongs in the classroom. Hopefully that $10k will support the family enough that he can get his teaching certificate and get back to teaching!!

Beautiful story. He loves his job and the kids love him. So happy he’s going to be full time someday. He reminds me of my nephew. He was miserable in his career, got laid off due to Covid, got his teaching certificate online and now he couldn’t be happier teaching technology to kids.

I hope Secret Santa knows how many lives around the world he has touched with his kindness. I am from Germany and I've been watching these videos since last Christmas and it's already one of the things I look forward to most during the holidays. I like to think watching them has contributed a whole lot to me being kinder to the people in my life. My life was and is not an easy one and I've started getting bitter and resentful towards this world and people but faith, love and hope didn't allow my heart to harden completely. The most wonderful thing about helping people is that I immediately started getting love in return. Even just hearing the sweet old lady next door tell me how much she appreciates me always smiling at her and helping her whenever I can means the world to me. Being kind is truly the best thing for anyone out there who feels desperate and hopeless. The warmth you get is like nothing else in this world! Great kids in this classroom! This person in Idaho, changes lives and sets an example for people around the world. This wonderful man will become a life long teacher and make a difference in children's lives for decades. The family had shown fortitude to get him his first degree, and now they have help getting him to the final degree. You could tell by the interaction from the kids in class that they really like their teacher and that they're really engaged to learn and they want him to stay.
