LOVE this!!! We've owned our '65 911 for 34 years (#'s matching, very original) and converted it to a race car in '01. Without a doubt it is the most challenging and rewarding car I've ever had the pleasure to drive. No ABS, no PDK, no nannies at all, it's all between the seat and the steering wheel and VERY demanding, but when you throw it into a corner trail braking and throttle steering through and accelerate out ahead of the pack with the tail just slightly hanging out, it's pure bliss! Hope you got your car back on the track, I look forward to more videos!
awesome video I had to re-watch the ending because I see the 911 going around the curve then a red GT40 side swapped it ..it happen so fast....man what a video and what a race!
Excellent driving! I wish I could say the same about the red GT40, was it? To get taken out like that has to hurt. I hope the car wasn't too badly damaged. Thanks for uploading.
We had wondered what had caused that safety car when we were there, we were on the pit straight at that point. Bad move by the GT40 though to spoil it! Cracking racing though, such a challenging track
IMPORTANT : After the crash, the Porsche was able to reach the stand but they haven't finished the race because after 4h of race , they had a problem with the motor.
the man drove like a champion and was shunted off by the red GT40(?) who should have backed off when realizing there were 3 cars abreast your comment is naive
@@Bierlogistiker Not so easy with a classic 911 with that kind of tyres and narrow body, and probably around 130-140 bhp, not to mention thra I waan't sure if it was a bit wet on some zones
is this a race? Seemslike hes just having fun sliding around (especially on that front straight) so I assume something kind of casual? Cool stuff tho didnt expect some of the older cars there
I always saw that on track, each car pays for his own damage, not for the other's, even if you are guilty. But maybe they have some sort of special insurance, being classic cars. That is one of the teasons I don't really do trackday with my own car, too many testosterone-inflated boys trying to show-off on the car groups where I move into
For sure, modern cars, brakes, and trims, takes more quick reflexes, 'cause of quicker reactions. But talking about fun... totally agree with you. Especially 'bout old version of Porsche, with their powerdrift tendency, exiting corners. But, you see, there are even "worse" examples, like that old Mustang: its 4,7L engine, on a track, can disfrute all its horsepower only in the straight... but has a lot of undesteer, like at 7:28, on that uphill corner
Marcus Bergsten it depends on the preparation of the engine. I think it's often around 180hp, but some of them can exceed 200hp. This one looks really powerful
Marcus Bergsten the baseline for year 1965 is 130 hp, but as Julien says, it could be anywhere up to 200, depending on the build. Nice and screamy those small motors!
Driver should not have un-belted for two reasons. One, you could tell the damage was very slight and this driver should have planned to get right back underway as soon as they righted him. Second is that he might have been hit by another car while sitting there. Tons of violent oversteer means this driver has a great sense of balance, but could be WAY more efficient.
Beau pilotage. Et quel dommage l'idiot du plateau en GT40, qui ne peut pas s'empêcher de balancer la purée, mais ne contrôle pas. Y a les même en fun cup. Ca voudrait, mais ça n'peut pas. Lorsqu'on maîtrise moyen, on doit faire profile bas. Merde !
'Tain il en faut des grosses pour piloter une ancienne 911... niveau stabilité c'est pas l'top xD Dommage qu'il ait pas fini, la GT40 etait bien trop sur l'attaque a la fin, genre le mec voyaiat pas qu'il passerait limite entre la porsche et l'autre gt40? ^^'
Im sorry i just don't get the 911. Handling looks terrible to me. The little TZ up front was very composed through the corners and the 911 was all over the place trying to keep up. On track i have had more 911's spin off in front of me than any other car i have chased around a track.
No, you’re right. The engine is in the wrong place. Combine that with early Porsche technology and the fact that the tires are also terrible and the driver seems to want to hammer on the throttle too hard, I’m honestly surprised he didn’t crash sooner. It’s a shame that Porsche kept developing the 911 to a point now where it is able to overcome its disabilities as a rear engined car because at a certain point physics will not allow it to keep up with mid engined technology, and it will always be an underdog to such cars.
in another reality, where i'm in charge of (or at least highly influential in) development at porsche, the 911 gives up any pretence of being a '+2' and the engine and transaxle get flipped 180°. formula vee figured it out a long time ago.
All over the place even a straight line! Dangerous car. Mid engined cars kick its ass! Pity Lotus never built reliable cars. Ferrari’s in mid engine configuration ?

Vintage race cars take much more driving talent than modern day computer controlled cars!
That is exactly why i love my old 911, pay attention or die!
Huge steering inputs. That darn Mustang.
What a great event.
Nice footage!

Modern race cars are just not as fun to watch. I suspect that downforce, high grip tyres and modern brakes are to blame.
lack of freedom in the way they drive, computer controlled shit, no clutch, no mechanical gearbox.
It was cool watching formula one cars from the 60s racing!

'65 2.0 I guess, it's the pre 65 endurance category
Okay, thank you! The sound is very "classic" for 2.0L flat-six Porsche engine. But how much horsepowers do you think that the car has?
Marcus Bergsten it depends on the preparation of the engine. I think it's often around 180hp, but some of them can exceed 200hp. This one looks really powerful
