The duelling Porsche 911s of Ambrogio Perfetti and Mark Bates were locked in a vicious battle during the Ronnie Hoare Trophy at Members' Meeting. #76MM
We've had 3 911's over the years. Not one disappointment......ever. Incredibly fun car to drive at any speed. Timeless beauty and unsurpassed performance over the life of the 911 speaks to excellence in design and engineering.
Classic racing is exciting and appealing. I used to watch Paul Newman race his Datsun Z-cars in SCCA events when it was all about the fun and comradery. Perfetti and Bates put down one hell of an effort. Good racing.
Reminds me of my classic sports car racing days in my 240Z against the Porsches. We were competitive with the 911s, the 930 Turbos not so much! very tail happy cars , though, even the 930s had to make sure they braked well beforehand and got back on the throttle in the fast bends; all the Porsches were great stoppers, though, with that weight transfer into the middle of the car perfect for braking balance. Pity we never saw any Ferraris like that 275 in the video; they were more interested in posing in the pits, whereas the Porsche drivers were absolute lunatics and gave it 110%.
Good question! The Brits still refuse to accept the 240Z as a classic, unlike most USA and Australasian clubs. Having owned and driven all the Triumphs (Spitfire, TR6, GT6) before my Datsuns, I can understand why; same age, but a generation apart.
Watching 40, 60, 80 year old cars and motorcycles racing at Goodwood, I find myself transfixed in wonderment coming to the obvious conclusion that it isn't the speed, really, it is the racing. Formula One for all the amazing technology and speed can be so very boring because there is no racing like this. For the past 10 years or so, I found myself more and more interested in MotoGP simply because the racing, per se, was exciting. So, the year of 2022 is the one to remedy this issue, and we all pray for more racing.
It has been dead to me since i started watching RUclips. I can watch old F1 races from the 50s through to whenever it died for me as a category somewhere after 2007, Targa Florio, Lemans , Milla Miliga etc. The same goes for motor sport in general. Classic historic racing is pure unadultarated mechanical beauty.
A great race between the two. There seemed to be rather a difference in the set-up of the cars, more than could be accounted for simply by different driving styles.
Never having any dilusions of podiums, trophies and kissing queens I always looked forward to a 'playmate' to spend my quality tie with and dance around the corners. Getting pushed by someone better was always a blast.
A very interesting race to watch although I'd say Bates was pushing it to a pretty dangerously limit. Perfetti was driving perfectly and keeping his cool which is why he was staying in the lead despite Bates having slightly more power or a higher gearing for the straights. Bates had to overshoot and brake very late in that first turn to pull off both passes and even nearly lost it all the last time around. Perfetti drove like a pro and Bates drove like a highly skilled driver that can't stand losing!
The green car, Perfetti, makes the fuel and tires last more on a race and with less risk for the expensive classic Porsche! Even so, Bates with the white car, makes the race exciting to the max!!!
Could help, but Bates has also a more agressive driving style that demands more of the tires... He definitely lacks grip on all four corners.... Better tires would surely help (as a smoother style might too)
Glad the commentator called the blue and yellow "swedish livery". My first reaction when I saw it was "war mongering idiot livery".... Ps. Just noticed it's a race from 4 years ago.
Are there Russian bots on here jealous of F1 or what lol. 🤣🤣 Anyway , two 911s with Flat-6 howling and Bates just throwing it in there, yes early 911s will do that nicely but watch for the pendulum! 🏁
Thanks for showing. Yet another great race where the vehicles didn't cost a M and they never came near 245 mph. That was a fine race.

This is the best kind of racing to Watch. I much prefer it to Formula 1.
I 👍 AGREE
F1 isn’t really a high bar to pass anyway.
Thank you RUclips algorithm
How cool was that! Thanks to all who race the classics. I miss Chris Economaki and ABC's Wild World of Sports.
Wow just wow. To save it on that wet grass after going into the turn that hot in a 911 is epic.

Good stuff but where are the 240Z's here?
Only way to keep the rear end under you is really fat tires.....the biggest that will fit. Hard lesson learned.

Funny thing is that Brits are importing used Datsun S30's from all over and getting all excited about them now.

if more people see this, F1 is really doomed!
Eh Eh! Who knows?

0:55 fantastic commitment from Bates in car #65! Great battle sights & sounds. I could watch this on repeat. Incredible stuff Goodwood!
Watched this live from the chicane. Epic stuff!
Reminds me Need for Speed Porsche unleashed.

Perfetti drifting the wheels off that Porsche. Very brave driving by the pair.

Pretty much drifting that Porsche 😬😬😬, great battle 👏👏👏
Great racing by the two driver...
Good battle!!
This is what racing is all about.
Great save at the end.
These 2 Porsches was epic
. Love this racing
Epic sounds! 😍
Absolutely brilliant
Epic battle!
I wonder how 911's sound has changed much throughout the ages!
Really nice action !!
fantastic stuff!!!
Pure gold right gere
Love it. Great stuff.
Masters of drivin
Such a great match up. Anyone know any info on the two 911’s?
That must have been awesome for them! It defenetly was for us !
This is so much more fun than modern racing, which is basically computer racing against each other with a human inside the car
The Black, Blue, and Yellow 911 (#16) ..........💙.
These early 911's look very difficult to drive on the limit, and so pnderous through the chicane. Impressive skills from both drivers
When 5 minutes feels like 3 seconds....WAW
Smooth vs aggressive = 1:0

Holy fucking shit, that's mental.
Ladies and gentlemen, this is beautiful.
Am I able to watch this on TV and if so on which channels because this is much more interesting then f1 IMO
Fabulous
fuckin awesome, pure driving
3:58 Very rare 904.
I was biting my tongue watching this!
you mean biting your nails. Biting your tongue means wanting to say something but not being able to.
LOL the guy in white 911 must have fell for the same sales pitch at Discount Tire on the China\Vietnam tires my wife did.
Who and what won the race?
Get the weight right with the ole 911’s and it’s the best driving feeling ever. Get it wrong and it’s the worst!
I guess the battle ended there?
Indee, what happaned then?
"overcooked it again?"
LOL, what's on the MENU ?
Great battle.
What is the third place car, No. 29?
1963 Morgan Plus 4 SLR
Looks like a Lotus Elite
Ah no, Morgan Plus 4
differences in setup, black is just coasting along, white car is snapping around like a fish.
+++rommel+++ yessssssssssssssss la porsche 911 ok amigo
Mark Bates needs a stiffer front anti roll bar perhaps ?
Could help, but Bates has also a more agressive driving style that demands more of the tires... He definitely lacks grip on all four corners.... Better tires would surely help (as a smoother style might too)

Handling>power.
That’s how to drive a rich person’s car you don’t have to fix yourself. Like a loon :)
Chuckling in his helmet...nope...that's not what he was doing lol..
#65 Bates, right out of Gran Turismo desperation. Perfetti is lucky he didn't get wrecked by this hack!
Are there Russian bots on here jealous of F1 or what lol. 🤣🤣 Anyway , two 911s with Flat-6 howling and Bates just throwing it in there, yes early 911s will do that nicely but watch for the pendulum! 🏁
