Brilliant stuff. A real lesson for all joiners. I don’t think you can underestimate the benefits of mock ups
Robins always in the groove, very poplar
That's a cutting comment, plane and simple. Bet Robin saw that one coming. Did you get board of watching the video, or is that knot the case?.....🤔.....hmmm can't think of any more 😃
Robs such a diamond geeza 🔷
Interior slatted walls are the Stone Cladding of the future.
Great stuff Robin, can't wait to see this come to life, I already know it will be a stunning job because you guys obviously love what you do! Cheers.
Great video Robin as always very informative and I love watching your work flow it clearly shows years of expert skill
Love that plate 😆
Almost got blinded by those milk bottles 😂awesome job again, love your work, keep making these videos and inspire me/us to do awesome carpentry work
That's going to look stunning. Fantastic craftsmanship.
Nice job ⭐️
Fantastic looking forward to next instalment Robin 👍
Great Video Robin, thank you.
Spiders will love it.👍
Well looking forward to this. Great work
Lovely set of pins there mate 👍🏻
He's rocking those shorts!
Thank you Robin, it's going to be perfect, can't wait to move in! 🕷🕷😁
Groovy! Think the 15mm groove will look much better. Looking forward to the next video.
great idea robin i can see you are a very creative person cant wait to see the procedure involved ...no doubt i will take your idea and work something with it brilliant !
Poplar ply, also known as lightweight ply, (although not exactly light!)
Used in campervans, motorhomes and caravans for decades. Not cheap! Average £150 for an 8x4. Laminated is waterproof so white used for campervan shower cubicles. Good stuff 👍
Yes, a trade name is Voringer ply and comes in different front face finishes.
This is exactly what I want in our build in France. It’s not happening with the builders but will be on my wife’s list of jobs once the builders are out. The hidden hinge is part of the door but the rest will be up to me to sort.
That is unless you fancy a “FREE” (ok working holiday) two week holiday in France a hundred miles southwest of Toulouse in the middle of the countryside with views of the Pyrenees mountains and swimming pool.
I’m sure you would have it done in a couple of days.
Sounds good and will be a good look 👍👍👍👍👍
Looks unreal 😮😍
Nice that you pre-planned this with the UFH. Our build consists of a lot of stuff like this, except that I end up changing my mind then kicking myself that the UFH prevents runs prevent me from doing what I want! (VERY glad we took ridiculous number of photos of the UFH though... and also when we tested it, with the thermal camera!)
This is going to look great. Looking forward to the video.
I created same slated effect with mdf and a router, once set up easy, then spray painted. Good job .
Wow. That’s gonna be intense.
Sticks in glue pots! Looking forward to making this one mate!
Thank you so much for doing this series, I’ve wanting to do my tv wall for a while but didn’t like the manufactured stuff , I’m looking forward to seeing the rest of the videos, also love the channel 😎😎😎
You are so welcome!
Literally about to do this at my place and thought I was going to have to put the doors on so they opened out. Do you have a link to those hinges please Robin? Can’t wait to see this on the next video, it’s going to help me massively! Thanks for all you do Robin, it really helps us DIYers achieve things far greater than we deserve! 🤣
I have a Fender Telecaster with a poplar body faced with very thin maple. If Poplar's good enough for an electric guitar, I'm sure it'll be great for plywood.
When's the follow up video coming?? Looking forward to it.
This week is the first of about 5!!
Tasty work.
Great vidwo !!!!
Nooice!
Once the curved walls are installed, how will you get furniture into that room?
Robin, it looks like you’ve managed to get a better quality Poplar faced ply than Peter Millard did. The ones he bought for his workshop drawers were ultra-thin Poplar facing and had loads of voids especially on the long cut edges. Unfortunately not a proper substitute for birch ply at all
Yes Geoffrey this is nice, I am planning to pop over with a sheet for Peter soon, that will be a good test
Don't you think poplar will be too soft on the face for this kind of application? Dents extremely easily.
well that was my first initial thought, but it is really crisp and firm
Interesting, did they treat the face with something to make it harder?
That cant be popular robin surely because then it would be hard to get hold of im thinking 😂😂😂😂 looks great
I’d love to learn from you 😊
Hey Robyn great work as usual … did you cut the strips on table saw or circular saw
I have tried with hardwood B&Q ply and get lots of splintering even when sawing with the grain in table saw with 60 tooth blade 😢
Hi, I used a combination of table saw, rail saw and I had a number of sheets cut in the workshop as there was many exactly the same size rips to do and it was far more cost effective to have them done in the workshop than on site
👍
Looking forward to this one Robin. How does the STREtek compare price wise with Birch ply?
Why not just use MDF Rob?
Have you had more fun designing this garden room than the house? Looks a great project just to try things and be a bit different 👍🏻
Yes I have
Why am I feeling jealous again ??
What are your tips for ripping the strips?
a decent saw table with a fine ripping blade or buy them ready cut
Hey rob do you have a licence for those pins to be out
It's £140 a sheet. That's no cheaper than birch and birch isn't actually that difficult to find if you have a have decent timber merchant.
It is no where near that price to the trade?
But poplars equally as expensive as Birch. Bends more and just isn't as good. For me the only alternative to Birch is Birch.
How much is a sheet of this alternative ply? I have a birch supplier near me but its £140 for 12mm, almost £250 for 18mm! I've stopped using plywood where I can because the far eastern ply is that bad. Cheers
I will run the prices in the next video
💙👊😎
I’m interested in doing this myself against a 3m wall. What size ply and what gap would you recommend?
Scarce and hard to get a hold of? Blimey
I've heard it's also difficult to find
If its scarce and hard to find, it will be hard to get hold of! 🤣
If its scare and hard to find you won't be getting hold of it at all 😂
I have made a similar screen for an office ‘breakout area’ some years ago now ,,, most definitely a case of something over designed. Zero functionality and ultimately a waste of money.
You’re so particular about everything you, yet you have an illegal number plate on your van!
Bet Rob sticks this plate on so you don't see the real plate in the video.
Why do you need such a tall mirror? 😂
Mirror, mirror on the wall,
Just in case someone is tall!
@@nonoyorbusness Because he can.....
