  • So I decided to work towards becoming a Summer Mountain Leader to gain the skills and confidence needed while leading loved ones and family or friends on hikes or wildcamps.
The Video is purely to illustrate some points I found interesting such as different kit, night navigation and rope work.
My fellow trainees on this course were a fab bunch and I feel I've gained a few mates through this.
The video starts in a class room on the morning of the "expedition" (wildcamp) where I weighed everyones kit. I was not the lightest by 2kg!!! However we all managed to get our shelters up and then had some food, that evening we went out at night to practice our night navigation skills and tracking skills learnt through our week of training. The following morning we swapped maps to a 1-50 scale, the massive and I mean MASSIVE difference shocked me!
For me now I can focus on my new skills and continue to learn about nature, rights of access and geology while still enjoying the outdoors.
My teacher was Phil George in Llanberis North Wales UK. Phil is a very experience mountain guy with a very calm collected method of teaching which I really liked. He has colleges that help when needed, I met Joe and Sam both again very experienced guys too.
Any questions guys pop it in the comments.....
