Wikipedia: Houston's debut album was released in early 1985 and she performed at various clubs to promote the album. Following the success of the hit single "You Give Good Love", Houston became the opening act for singers' Luther Vandross and Jeffrey Osborne on their individual 1985 US tours. After the next single, "Saving All My Love for You", became Houston's first #1 in the US, she began headlining her own shows, playing at various American theaters, festivals, and clubs throughout the summer and fall of 1985.
and i remember this time of her career really good. when she went out and started headlining her own tour, the radio kocks and other media outlets where saying she did'nt have enough big songs/popular songs to go out on her own and she proved them wrong
She had the ultimate resonance. Her voice had a lot of chest core and she had very strong head core. Resonance is created by chest core and the overtones from the chest voice. The singers like Lara etc have zero resonance. They have atrophied chest voices and sing with voce ingolata. low larynx and tongue in throat. they create that artificial dark sound, distorted, hollow, muffled sound. As she ascends she closes her throat and use the twang technique to create what people think is resonance but the overtones show that it is not coordinated properly. it is just a harsh metallic sound amplified by a mic... Remove that mic and all you hear is noise..
Glorifyhim888 I think the tempo is slowed down to almost a crawl for dramatic effect. Purely to maximise that beautiful voice. This is very early Whitney and even though she does sound patchy in parts there's no mistaking her vocal prowess. It's like she's discovered fire and doesn't quite know how to harness and control it yet. Her legacy to our world will always be her gift of song.
I was there too...this audio doesn't even do it half justice..the CLARITY of her voice that night...CHILLS...never in my life have I ever heard such vocal chops in a 22 yr old.
she did I am changing and home this night, maybe her best performance. hope one day it will get released. I wonder someone to release the rest songs everyday.
I love her singing when she was young.....but in the 90's---2002..You also saw a Stage, which she had complete control over. Hell, she is the best and I know in my lifetime I won't see another.
Thank you so much for posting this. When I hear the latest garbage on the radio, I come to RUclips to hear Whitney. To a time when you had to have TALENT. I miss her so.
Oh wow! That must have been amazing!I never got to see her live in concert, but glad we have RUclips so all us fans can look back at these great videos! You're so lucky to have gotten to see her!
omg yeees! I was born in 1983 and I can say it all went downhill around year 2000 or so. No new memorable artists since then. And that´s the moment when radio promoted shit for the most part and still has not stopped. 80´s and 90´s were so great
amen to that! sometimes i wish i was born in the early 80's becasue music was much better then...whitney was just coming out and the industry promoted actual talent...wish this generation could realize what they are missing..
This is what we need to honor her memory nit those stupid horrible documentaries and s ridiculous hologram. The shame of her estate they know nothing of her true fans and the love we have for her.
The people in the industry now have nothing on the people back then. thats y i dnt listen to drake, lil wayne and nicki minaj. im with teddy pendergrass n luther vandross. tina marie and whitney i wish other 16 year olds like me could see the people now r not teaching anything good.
Whitney's sense of pitch was ridiculously precise. Look at this!!!
I know perfect pitch and muscial ear!
The clarity, the power, the resonance, the vibrato, the runs, the belts, the head voice.
Omg this woman had it all and more 😩🔥🔥❤❤
That soprano... Wow! It's loud and beautiful!
Right that soprano is everything!

There is another version of "Everybody Rejoice/Brand New Day" that is BANANAS... Whitney goes in hard at the end with her ad-libs.
And people still say Whitney never had resonance! Come on people! Y’all never heard a sound this good and resonate.

You can’t compare rappers to singers 😂
I'm 17 and my mates think I'm weird for listening to old school music
was it a coincidence that you published on the day she passed?
me too karma peter
This recording does not do any justice to Whitney. She was one of THE BEST in history, but this is not representative of her true talent.
What is the back story of this 'debute' ? Was it her first solo concert or something?
ok
