When I play Castlevania, I always imagine Dracula sitting in his room watching you tear through his minions on security monitors thinking the next boss is the one that's going to get you.
...except that it would most likely be a series of crystalline orbs that project the images onto special mirrors via arcane, occult, and Satanic magic, Internet Tough Guy. I mean, who would make programs for his televisions in medieval times, anyway? They already labeled him, and rightly so, as an agent of Lucifer. Also, I don't think that you need pecs and two arms on your arm...have you been swimming around the nuclear power plant again?
This gameplay blew my mind! How did I never hear of a remake of the original Castlevania for the PSone? It looks awesome and the music is just as badass as the NES original!
Well, as far as I know, RicardoThePlayer, there was a version of Castlevania for the Japanese MSX, which is a somewhat niche video game console, and that version of the game is the one that is also on this video, and not the NES/FDS versions of the game. However, like Metal Gear for the FDS/NES, the Japanese port of Castlevania, which, up until this game, was known as Akumajou Drakula, just like the FDS version of Castlevania, there are things that are different in this game than its NES/FDS counterparts. Unlike Metal Gear, though, the differences are far more vast for the different Castlevania ports for each system. Now Contra for the MSX, on the other hand, that version of the game should have added more bosses, and then shipped to the NES/FDS that way instead.
@@stef5152 it’s because the original game was made in 1990-91, it wasn’t until the PSX or Saturn era you had a console that could handle the Sharp X68000’s power.

Paul Seidler Because this game wasn't originally on the PS1 it actually is from a obscure gaming computer from the 80s known as the sharp x68000, the only thing that the psx hardware is doing here is emulating the game in the original mode, in the arrange mode is pretty much the same although it is actually running in the psx hardware without an emulator reason why it's graphics and music are different

+florence flojo I know. Hell, even I'm not that good! I can beat the game, yes, but I've never made it all the way through without taking damage somewhere along the way. The area that seems to screw me up pretty consistently is the fourth set of stages, a.k.a. the Red Brick Cathedral (21:25-27:30). It seems like I can't avoid taking damage somewhere in that area, whether it be from a standard enemy or from Medusa (I've noticed that when the fight with her begins, it becomes clear that aside from her ability to petrify you, she also LOVES to try to sneak in cheap shots with her tail whenever she can).
Man, cool! Wow, just wow! Real pro walk through! Was it tool-assisted in anyway? Or is it just your favorite game? Or is it that you're just that good? heh!

+Penfold8 Originally it was released for The Sharp X68000 then it was re-released for PlayStation with an arrange mode that gave you an arranged version of the game's soundtrack and some new and redesign levels.
So in this video, there are two different soundtracks for Original and Arrange modes? And in T-0815's long play [083], a "Roland GS MIDI music" track is used? So the game in essence has three soundtracks, or did I mishear? Sorry to ask a bunch of sound questions, but the soundtrack (particularly the one heard in the [083] longplay) is so awesome in and of itself, I am considering getting the game through PSN for it.

33:13, why do I feel like that people ship both Simon Belmont, and She Wolf together? It would have to be a gigantic and we'll fleshed out fanfiction to make the basic level of sense, or maybe someone could just make Castlevania I in the style of Symphony of the Night, and just have one of the goals for the true ending be: Rescue Andrea Tifa, and she turns out to be the She Wolf. Wait what am I talking about?
Great job playing both versions of the game. The original is great (albeit very difficult), with only a few sound effects and Simon's awkward walk as minor annoyances. I like the little graphical enhancements in the Arranged - well, except those awful CG movies. This game looks very dark and gloomy compared to most other Castlevanias - look at the prison, or the laboratory full of corpses. Even the Dracula fight, it's similar to the Rondo of Blood one, yet Dracula's face gets horribily distorted when he loses parts of the energy, he's decapitated, regenerates from the blood, and the demon form is much creepier. A pity several (younger?) players diss this one so much.
