To be fair, not that many people gave a damn about GTA until the 3rd one came out for the PS2. Before that, Driver 1 and 2 is what everyone looking for a 3D crime game were playing.
@@cloudtx This simply isn't the case. I was around at the time that GTA came out (1997) and it was all anyone talked about. It was a huge hit for DMA Design (Later to be known as Rockstar North). Driver (1999) beat them to making a 3D game, releasing in the same year as the top down GTA2. As a result GTA2 didn't do so well. You're very much correct that GTA3 marked a massive turn around in the fortunes of the franchise though.

Of course people knew and played the first games, they wouldn't have made 1-2 and London otherwise haha, It's just that my experience is different. Back then all I can remember were people playing and talking about Driver. In my country we had these arcade-like places where you could play on a console for a few hours for a couple bucks. I remember people playing Goldeneye, Driver, Crash and a few others the most. I had seen GTA 2's cover somewhere but it didn't peak my interest.
I missed the PS1 train back in 1995 when everyone else was onboard lol. I didn't get into it until 2003. Initially, I played what I remembered back then explored other stuff. Fast forward to today. I play PS1 games on my RetroPie and on batocera on my laptop computer.

I have 51 translated as a fan patch reproduction disc (better be able to actually read whats going on) 52 53 54 94 and I'd love a translated copy of 60: GeGeGe no Kitarou Gyakushuu! but again I'd like a properly printed reproduction. Nothing else on there interested me, Elder Gate looks interesting, Komani is a plus, but average reviews and obvious translation issues puts me off.

And I remember the opening cutscenes shows you have a sister and that you have a dead parent (I can't remember if it was the father or mother). I've been looking everywhere and can't think of it!
Martian Ghotic was played by everyone I know , but game was buggy at times that it even managed to crash the save files. All I can say is , good idea but poor execution . TBH I would love it to be remade in this gen Grapihics . I would imagine it to be something like Deadspace series. 1. While yes you can shoot and take em down but enemies never die in this game. 2 . You got to work as 3 but can't come close to each other .

To anyone bitching about some of these games being too "mainstream" for this list, keep in mind that some of these franchises are better known for being in other consoles and is the fact that they were ported to the psone that is not that well known (GTA for PC, MvsC and Captain Commando for arcades, etc) There are some actually obscure games on this list that I never heard of and i'm gonna try soon. I must've had a bugged copy because it always froze on the loading screens and I could never pass it. I remember having nightmares because of it. Stupid game.

I can tell you that this (22:48) is NOT the footage for the PS1 version of Re-Volt, that version is considered the worst out of the three versions of the game, if you want to play the game on console, play either the N64 or Dreamcast versions, otherwise stick with the original (Acclaim) PC version or the OpenGL source port; RVGL.

Look 52 is a final fight clone. And 53 is a RE clone! It sure is true not many have played GTA 1 or 2... They are good games though. Heck ya Captain Commando! Love that game. Look an M&M Crash Clone, and look number 70 is yet another RE clone didnt know there were so many. Dino Crisis was allowed because it was by crapcom. Well back in those days it was still capcom.

You have to remember this was early 3d, developers were just figuring stuff out at the time. It wasn't until the Xbox/GameCube/PS2 era that developers got the hang of stuff. 3d got gradually better. I still shake my head when people say PlayStation 1 games look like atari 2600 graphics. Well, atari 2600 couldn't really do graphics that were clearly recognizable. With PS1 you can clearly tell what something is supposed to be. With atari 2600 you have a pixelated barf blob and you have to use your imagination lol.
Back in the day the games are more challenging, a lot of grinding and has a better storyline than most games nowadays (that's why they're classics) especially now when all the developers think id money grab.
