  • In this tutorial we will track progress through our projects using a couple weekly updates. Having established a baseline we will see our variance in both cost and schedule from our plan.

A little bit confused, weren't you suppose to have "baseline duration" and then change only "Actual Duration? In first instance the task "stud walls" was supposed to be completed as per the baseline but was only half way through once you changed durations

The stud wall task still took the same amount of time, but started a day late because its predecessor (demolition) was delayed in finishing. This is reflected in the tracking gantt.

Great video. But I want to ask, if somehow actual material resources used is more than what's planned. How do we express it in tracking gant?

Hi. The tracking Gantt shows time variance compared to plan. Resource variance is tracked numerically in the database and reported separately.

What about a task that is split, or one that wasn't intended to be split and was performed in a split matter?

Hi Zack... did I mention I hate splitting tasks... sometimes necessary, but normally to be avoided as it typically affects efficiency. No biggie... if you've split a task (and then baselined your project), just make the changes for the task to reflect actual (including any splits) and then mark it as complete the same as if it wasn't split. The program effectively ignores the space between the task components.

I cannot find the Task board option in my MS PROJECTS 2019. Can you help me in this?

I’m sorry, that must be frustrating. Unfortunately, I’m not setup to do troubleshooting assistance.
