Wooow amazing!! Sin duda es gratificante ver tu trabajo, gracias por compartirlo y mostrar todo el proceso a detalle y dando consejos que uno puede aplicar. Increíble resultado sin dudas 🎉
This is easily one of the most beautiful knife builds I've seen. Also, you are very good at explaining each step, which makes it a lot more engaging. It definitely makes it more interesting to watch!
This knife is absolutely gorgeous! I think you made the right choice not using coffee to darken it, and I like the darker spots closer to the handle! You did phenomenal!
ITS HERE🙌🙌🙌🙌 Man Ian this video was amazing, everything about it was perfect!!! I loved being able to see the entire forging process, and also the drawings on the whiteboard to show the different steps really made it simple and easy to understand. Also the carving on the handle is BEAUTIFUL!! It really brought the whole thing together and especially how it curved around the recessed tang. I do have one question tho, I noticed you left the spine pretty thick on the knife and I was wondering if that was for any particular reason? Amazing job again!! I’ll definitely have to watch this video multiple times it was so good!
Thanks bro! I’m glad you enjoyed it!! And as far as the spine thickness; that was intentional! I usually grind my chef knives very thin at the spine and that creates a lot of flex in the blade when you use it; with this one and of recent, I’ve started to leave them a bit thicker as then it stiffens the blades up and makes it more useful in some situations. As long as your edge geometry is good the knife still cuts comparable to a thinner-spined blade, but as with anything it’s just a personal choice to meet the application it’s designed for! 🤠
every time i see snow i cant help but think about how perfect the conditions for forging are, 5 minutes infront of my forge here in australia and im balls deep into heatstroke during summer, beautiful work and love the videos
Thank you for being here and for the kind words!! And yes! Snow is great for most forging, I’m currently doing a sword build for the next video and it’s not so great when you’re trying to heat treat something large without a kiln 😅 I’ve faced the issue of losing temperature too quickly, but it certainly does keep the working conditions more comfortable!
Magnificent knife Ian! I have never seen those Ivory scrapers before- I will definitely look for them (OR I will make those). I didn't fully understand the shape of "rose" at the beginning, but I realized that the whole blade is the flower of rose! Such a cool idea! Love it! I Would try to design a different pattern for those kind of handles.. maybe somehow you will find the way to make a "leaf pattern".. Topic to discuss ;). Cheers Buddy!
Thank you bro!! I really appreciate it! As far as the ‘rose’ I apologize, I meant ‘robes’ as in like a garment of clothing, it was meant to look like the robes wrapped around and clothed the knife/blade! 🤠 thanks for being here bro and all your help on Instagram with the carving blades and stuff!
@@IanZ_Forge Robes? aaa, ok, now it's clear :)! But honestly- it doesn't matter- It's sick idea and design (especially inlay the bolster inside a handle!) If I can suggest something and help: I do! Knife making community is great- I have received helpful suggestions many times, and now, after I gained my own experience, I can do the same thing:). For sure, if I need help with sword, you will share your knowledge! It works both ways :)
Thats the first time Ive heard a banana reference in a knife video and it wasnt a bendy blade lol Gorgeous pattern and handle, I really like that little kick upward on the spine as well. fantastic. Beautiful and inspiring work. I really enjoyed watching your process on this one ...had me subscribing half way though

That is a beautiful knife mate, i like the rough bits on the blade (I think it's the bits that haven't been ground of). It just looks very natural, especially with that carved handle
Awesome knife bro, pattern looks like angel hair I believe it is called. I did a feather like that but I worked it out to much so I ended up kind of ruining it. Anyways, awesome knife thanks for the video!
Thank you bro!! I really appreciate that and you checking out the video! The press you made is AWESOME!!! I can’t wIt to see the stuff you create man, and I know that feeling over overworking feather 😅 I actually felt like I overworked and outstretched this one a bit but still happy with the end result thankfully, thanks again man!
@@IanZ_Forge Ill have to pick some up. Thanks man, I have at least 2 or 3 more videos to film for that series. I am thinking they will be a blacksmith knife, full tang, and hidden tang.
Great knife! Love the organic look of your feather Damascus. One question - why did you do the bolster isolations by hand when you had a press immediately available?
@@dwayneburbridge3283 Thank you!! Thanks for checking it out! And as far as to answer that, I honestly wanted the video to be as accessible to others who may not have a press as I could; with the exception being when I make the isolations more pronounced with the press. I added there in that scene that the same could be done with a post vice so hopefully those could follow through that part as well. It is more efficient though to your point to just use the press from the start
Hey! Thanks for being here! And I used a jeweler’s silver solder (medium/hard solder) the key thing if you do it is make sure you have good contact between surfaces and all things are clean, and that the tang is recessed as far as possible into the bolster as that’s what provides the structural integrity to the joint
Thank you!! I do sell them! This is my profession/job and I do mostly custom/commission work! If you’d be interested reach out to me via email at ianzforge@gmail.com Thanks for being here and liking the knife!! 🤠
Hey bro! Honestly for me it is a personal preference; linseed/danish oils tend to be thicker than the other oils I use for the wood; that being said ‘tru oil’ that I used on the last video is somewhat comparable I feel, but not the same nonetheless. I know a lot of guys who use linseed on hammer handles and what not. I debated trying boiled linseed on my custom hammer I made a while back but ended up just using mineral oil; that handle cracked on me though so I wonder if linseed would’ve prevented that.....
@@Bread_knife_guy Yes; that’s actually what I use (store-bought ‘food-safe’ mineral oil / cutting board oil) I would definitely recommend that over linseed oil for this stuff, I also use Axe Wax a good bit but mostly on handles and only on blades that aren’t going to be used that much as the wax can be sticky and gross for ‘constant use’ chef knives per say
That's a beautiful Knife Bro

It’s time to make some more tongs. With integrals especially, being able to grab your material is as or more important than you think it is.
