The best of them all here on RUclips! Quel plaisir!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My favorite rendition. The way he plays the accent at 3:57 is unlike anyone else's rendition, but it sounds absolutely right. Here is a pianist playing beautifully and very obviously having a good time. The standing ovation at the end is very, very well deserved
I agree
I thought I had heard the stand-out performance of this incredibly difficult piece in Yuja Wang's version. This is is even better. The pianist shows the joy that Mendelsohn's genius created in composing this magnificent Piano Concerto. Bravo maestro!
"stand-out performance" "Yuja Wang's version"................something's wrong...........
Rosalyn Gillis The piece is not that difficult. The sixteenth-note passages all follow a fairly simple pattern, any pianist at the advanced level could learn this within a week or so. It fits under the hand very nicely and is quite satisfying to play.
Me too, until I watch Alexandra Dovgan and eventually brought me here. Yuja Wang performance sounds "barbaric".
Those who contradicted my comments about maestro Yakushev - obvious jealousy. He has more talent in his little finger than any of you have in your whole bodies.

I am, just, speechless!!! It is jut Fantastic !!!
Simply ,Just Fantastic!!!!!
Amazing performance! The joy on his face is really evident- love how into the music he gets.
What a pleasure watching him play! He's having fun playing, he enjoys in it. A brilliant pianist.
Wonderful performance. Thank you for posting!
Absolutely Fantastic in every way, Bravo !!!!!
Perfect dynamic, perfect speed, perfect tone! WOW that was an amazing performance. I can't even believe it.
He plays good, but the speed in the 3rd mvmnt is to fast, it should be like 190-200 BPM, not Prestissimo. And: He speeds up random at many parts
He is so expressive. I had the honor of playing this very concerto with this fine musician the past weekend! Beyond moving!
Une merveille ,merci beaucoup 👍👍👍👍👍👍❤️👍👍❤️
J'aime beaucoup cette version.Un très bon orchestre et un pianiste
que je découvre avec bonheur. I love.
Oui mais le soliste n'écoute pas bcp l'orchestre.
Ilya, What a tour-de-force of a performance. The tempo was even all along and the orchestra did a great job in accompanying you. The final movement was played with such vigor at a withering pace. Congratulations!
Absolutely amazing performance !!!
= I'll second that one- I'd just listened to Yuja Wang's performance of this piece and it was a quick tempo- clicked on this one and it was not just faster- it was perfectly concise all the way through and indeed the expression on the pianist's face added to it! A STANDING OVATION WELL DESERVED INDEED!
Its wonderful to see someone with this highest level of pianistic achievement who also presents an amazing image of what else we would like an amazing pianist to be.
Great pianist! Truly made me perceive the happy mood through his performance. It could be the antidote for me when I incline toward the depression.
Absolutely amazing.
What an amazing performance. Didn't know this guy. He's amazing in so many ways
Wow! Amazing!
Bravo! Thanks for sharing.
Best performance I've ever heard.
This is phenomenal!! I've been looking for authoritative versions of this concerto. I've listened to Yuja Wang, Lang Lang, Serkin and some others. For me, this version is one of the best. The orchestra is great as well (especially with timing, the pianist and the orchestra are locked in pretty tight!).
Except maybe for the beginning of the 3rd mvt. Something didn't sound right. It also sounds faster than Yuja's version, which is an astounding tempo (not necessarily musically the best choice but impressive nevertheless!).
I'll have to side with Yuja on this one. This guy is in a race.
I don't agree.
Kurt shouted at her to slow down!.
No! You are wrong!Kurt shouted at the orchestra to catch up with Yuja's speed instead.
Magnifique! Grande sensibilité!
I'm currently learning this piece!!! :D amazing performance! he makes it look so easy and i love how he's very expressive
Good for him..he's enjoying himself
Couldn't agree more, his physical performance enhances the enjoyment of the piece. His musicality is absolutely amazing.
How would you expect him to act? That third movement just rings with excitement. One of my favorite piano concertos. I also enjoy the violin and piano concerto as well.
È una piacevole sorpresa questo concerto che non avevo mai sentito.
Esecuzione molto bella
Oh yes! Maestro Yakushev certainly has the right stuff!! I never heard this played so fast - could have easily become a train wreck, but they all succeeded in raising the bar so high, that no one will ever play it faster and do it more justice. Wow - chills ... Bravo!!
this delicacy!!! and power... great!
천재네요 ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ 너무재밌고 유쾌한연주 ~♥
Wonderful! Bravooo!!! It's sooooo goooooooodddddd!😍😍😍
The best version.
try to listen to pletnev version
Alexandra Dovgan, 10 years old from Russia's version for me, is much better.
Brilliant.
it´s amazing during 18:06, congratulations!!!!!
Dimiri Bashkirov Mendelsohn piano concerto 1 second to none the best!
Great performance of a wonderful concert. It is good to see the enjoyment of the pianist.
es un excelente pianista. tiene un buen fraseo en una obra difícil dada la dificultad por ejemplo del primer movimiento.
Anyone come here after watching Alexandra Dovgan (age 10, from Russia) won the Grand Piano Competition with this song?
que buen concieto..........música para mis oídos
Terrific performance! Blistering Finale. Mr. Yakushev is a born natural with lightning reflexes. It seemed unnecessary for him to expend any effort to achieve playing the music, hence a note-perfect performance and a fine orchestral accompaniment.
Best performance
This one is a student playing.Try Prof.Dimitry Bashkirov playing this Mendelsohn piano concerto.Bashkirov the best tempos the best piano sound. And the melodies are rolling
he plays so fast )) its amazing ))) wow
손을 어떻게 이렇게 움직여요? 진짜 대단하다
Ele e" perfeito!!!!!
could anybody answer my question? Im working this piece right now. Between the 1st and 2nd movement there is a double barline that seems it should be played through bcz the end of the 1st movement has no climax. But, could I play this piece only 1st movement?
Wolfie Mozart . Yes. The first mvt is often played by itself
Yes you can!
He even threw in a few bonus bars at the end!
I love the way he joins the orchestra at the end. Mendelssohn didn´t write that, but if you are imaginative and brilliant, you can add great ideas sometimes.
Mendelssohn was a great improvisor and would be delighted to see that.
He's not the only pianist who adds those non-existent chords. I'd like to see them dare pull a stunt like that say, on a Beethoven-Chopin etc. concerto. Sadly, it proves the point that this serves more as a show-off that anything else. The rest I like a lot but the 3d movement is a blurred mess, sorry. Ultra-fast, note-perfect (save for the presumptuous chords) and impressive but it's on fast-forward. Not much music in there.
Yeah. What clever imagination it takes to add the exact same chords than the orchestra ! I am sure Mendelssohn never though about that trick, when he finished composing that concerto lol.
Damn, I'm working on 3rd movement and he makes my tempo feel like a slug lol.
Is this the same pianist that performed in Vero Beach Florida a few years ago?
For me Alexandra Dovgans is the best version I've heard of this and she was only ten at the time. You can find it on youtube!
А про Поперечного уже тут вспоминали..?! Если нет, то я первый! ))
And about the Poperechny already remembered here..?! If not, I'll go first! ))
Bravo!
He is funny and unique.
1:36 do not drink and play
Ohhhh!!!
I don't know why everyone talk about Yuja Wang version. Its not the best music to Yuja
This pianist is more sensitive and expresive than Yuja.
Best historical versions are Pletnev, Serkin, Czifra and Thibaudet.
But this is a great version. Tempo at 3rd mov is perfect. Bravo!!
Dimitri Bashkirov his Mendelssohn piano concerto no 1 with The Finnish Radio Symphony video from 1989 is the best! Bashkirov had the best piano sound! Best tempos! Melodies rolling the best way! The bad Mendelssohn players are Really=Yuja Wang(awful typewriter!) Marc Andre Hamelin(Cyborg Human machine) Pletnev(too cool) Serkin(raw rough) Thibaudet(weakest) Perahia(thin colorless dry piano sound) Emil Gilels(too heavy!)
Cziffra(raw rough sledgehammer Mendelssohn!)
Is it appropriate to move around on the chair like this???
With a talent like that, does it matter Karen? :)
+k4k 1ok Quite independent of talent perhaps just 7 minute itch.
Wonderful expressive performance. My only issue was with the camera work. Why keep pulling out to that boring view of the whole Orchestra? Who cares?
Then to not even focus in on the amazing pianist at the end made ME want to zoom in. Terribly annoying camera work despite an amazing performance!
wonderfull perfomance~!!!

I think that's a New York Steinway the inner rim is finished black the Hamburg is finished wood the New York Steinways are made in Queens New York about 50 miles from where I'm watching this
and for your information the Steinway model B and C and the model D all have a one piece bridge I don't think any other piano's have a one piece bridge
Thanks to Robert Nostrand told me that about 1969 he maintained that feature gives the large Steinways their wonderful tone
y el romanticismo????
looks like his face doesnt realise this piece has no vocals
The greatest pianists of our generation: Yuja Wang, Ilya Yakushev, Lang lang; they are all Asians. Proud to be asian.
Ilya Yakushev, asian? am I missing something? Great performance!
*Jim Rickman* Russians are Asian unless you're talking about European side. I mean. It's not just Asians that are good. Think about Georgi Cherkin or Josh Wright. And I am a Brit and I'm a pianist.
Felix Mendelsohn piano concerto 1 Dimitri Bashkirov!!! Bashkirov a class of his own secon to none the best.Check that out!

Bravo but too fast !
I think hes as good or better than Horowitz
It might be concluded that the performace is somewhat self absorbed (what is it with the gratutitous left hand gesure at 8:50?) and a detached musician prioritising technical bravado over soulful engagement with the music. Contrast with the considerably more involved Yuja Wang, filled with lyracism and sufficently absorbed as to sing along with her playing, see ruclips.net/video/2GGx8TRWFVA/видео.html I suggest the definitive interpretation of this technically demanding work.
Piano in first and thrid movement too fast; consequently the phrases dissappear; orchestra too loud. Second movement well played, good romantic. Wrong piano mark, too American sound; it is better to use a comtemporary piano, than the atmosphere of the concert will be quite different.
A Bosendorfer?
Good but to fast.
is is mocking the music or just bored with his own ego, to the point of being rather clownish?
julian levant You just go a little crazy after doing it so much I guess.
