  • Wing Chun vs Boxing: Testing Wing Chun Chi Sao Skills on a PRO Boxer. John McDermott is an English heavyweight boxer from England. He is a two-time challenger for the British Heavyweight title and is the current English Heavyweight title holder.
    On 18 April 2008, McDermott won the vacant English heavyweight title, knocking out Pele Reid in the second round. He had fought for the same title once before in 2004 losing on that occasion to Mark Krence.
    In September 2007, he had become the mandatory challenger for a second shot at the British title beating Scott Gammer on points over 10 rounds. He had fought for the title once before in December 2005 losing in the 1st round to Matt Skelton.
    McDermott lost his English heavyweight title to Tyson Fury in a controversial decision on 11 September. Referee Terry O'Connor, scored the fight 98-92 in favour of Fury. After the referee handed the decision to Fury, Sky Sports commentator Jim Watt asked; "Has he [O'Connor] got the names mixed up?" Jim Watt along with other commentators Glenn McCrory, Johnny Nelson all scored the fight to McDermott, as did David Haye. Fury defeated McDermott in a rematch on 25 June 2010. McDermott won a unanimous points decision against Matt Skelton on 16 March 2013 to regain the English Heavyweight title.
    Wing Chun is a great martial art, but here’s what happens when you ignore the universal principles of combat!
    As in any fight, you still need to abide by the universal basics of Distance Control, Footwork, and Timing. These attributes have nothing to do with actual Wing Chun techniques, but just fighting.
    ALSO READ: www.londonwingc... ► Wing Chun vs Boxing: "Wing Chun DOES not work." Many people assume that if you learn Wing Chun that you will be unable to fight at a long range or cope with basic boxing or kickboxing combinations. Granted that Wing Chun is an exceptional martial art at close quarter fighting, but it can be used effectively over a long range of fighting.
    The notion that “Wing Chun does not work” comes from a misunderstanding of the training methodology of Wing Chun. We did a video (see • Wing Chun vs Boxing | ... ) explaining how Wing Chun can be used effectively over a long distance, while introducing the basic concept of improving footwork mobility.
    Surprisingly there are some people outside of the Wing Chun community that have the opinion that Wing Chun does not work a fight. Of course defining a real fight is difficult, as the term can mean different things to different people. This is where the misconceptions about Wing Chun begin.
    As in any martial art it is necessary to develop the ability to manage and control distance to the person that is attacking you. This involves the attribute of developing good mobility and footwork.

    Very interesting to watch. You have the advantage that you are willing to try sparring other styles and learn the tricks. An open mind can be as useful as a closed fist. Even more so, in fact.

    Great video, now can you make one with a smaller boxer that is good on the inside? Someone who can't use their size but rather movement and skill. I'm not being critical but as a boxer and someone who has some Wing Chun experience I think it would be a great comparison.

    people think boxers don't know clinch or inside fighting, we're very knowledgeable and effective on the inside

      NaturalPugilist All of you?? Or just the ones with a lot of years of experience??

    • @NaturalPugilist
      @NaturalPugilist 6 лет назад

      well, of course we would only be talking about competent fighters. Even the best guys at the top level that seem to not know how to fight in the inside when they fight a pressured fighter like a Mexican fighter or a Maidana type. They still know how it's just that they are experts at it the same way pressurepro the fighter is. Those type of Fighters are much more comfortable with taking damage and usually know how to roll with punches very well

    • @NaturalPugilist
      @NaturalPugilist 6 лет назад

      So to answer your question it's kind of tricky. Yes it does take a lot of experience but at the same time there are guys that are naturally born with the ability to take incredible damage. are very durable and will find a way to defeat their opponent at all cost. They may be slower, less athletic, and have less natural ability but they simply just have more heart and desire to win and never give up. that's why fighting is the greatest sport on earth, no matter the rule set

  • @philipmann5317
    @philipmann5317 5 лет назад

    You used to see it in hockey fights, when they would actually fight. A much smaller man would be stuck fighting a guy who outweighed him by thirty, forty pounds, and he would clinch, fight close, anything to take away that reach advantage.

  • @Lordblanca

    Playing in the ring with someone that out weighs you by at least 50 lbs is not a fair comparison of skills. In real life he hits you two good shots fight over. Maybe if you got someone more your size the comparison would be better one.

    • @Soysaucemoto
      @Soysaucemoto 6 лет назад

      Someone like Tarver... but Tarver would murder him. A retired boxer would destroy any Wing Chun "master" in the ring. But in an uncontrolled street fight, I can see a Wing Chun master kicking his balls and gouging an eyeball.

    Shouldn't a Wing Chun practitioner be a pro in the clinch?

    • @prodi16
      @prodi16 6 лет назад

      Not necessarily there are a lot of hitting techniques in wing tsun also a great problem with kung fu its the lack of real fighting experience during training, most schools only focus on forms and techniques but lack a great deal of sparring and leave it only to do with or between sifus.

    • @ezdi619
      @ezdi619 6 лет назад

      Ricaurte Almengor what do you mean a lot of hitting techniques? I’m saying that Wing Chun practitioners spend years doing chi sau to train their sensitivity to “become One with their opponent” the guy in the video has been training wing chun for very many years so shouldn’t he not have much trouble in that range with a boxer who doesn’t put as much time and focus into that range?

      Yep, if this was real sparring, the boxer would have ended the fight pretty soon. Not to mention that size does matter.

    • @prodi16
      @prodi16 6 лет назад

      They were more like playing this cant be even considered a spar, and actually i put my money on the boxer if he its a real pro then he should be able to easily defeat the win tsun master.

    MMmm you are doing it all wrong. Go and work on body control/clinch with a Tai Chi Chen or a Wing Chun soft person. Go and seek out Kenneth Cheung here in California if you have not already.
