Does the supposed hitsink even make full contact with the external metal case so the heat can actually be dissipated ?

This is quite a handy thing for occasional use, but cooling is poor. I didn't realise that the NVMe SSD that I was cloning from was a 2230 and while this enclosure works with a 2230, it doesn't have the clips to hold it securely. Inateck now have a newer version with a fan and support for 2230.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. This enclosure is compatible with sizes 2242, 2260, 2280 only. Therefore, the size 2230 SSD won't fit.
And you are right, there is another version which can be used for size 2230. Here is the link for your reference: www.inateck.com/products/hard-drive-enclosure-for-m-2-nvme-sata-with-usb-3-2-fan-fe2022?_pos=6&_sid=e9fed507a&_ss=r .
