one of my best ever memories on wow was on my level 13 dwarf hunter, my buddy from school told me that i needed to go to westfall. So i remember taking the tram and running through elwyn, at this point my mind was blown. Once in westfall he took me on an adventure swimming along the coast all the way to booty bay so i could go to the barrens and tame a raptor, i thought i was the coolest hunter on the server.

It was March 2005. I got a whisper from a female human priest who was a few levels high than me (a dwarf hunter). Her whisper said “Want to do VC?”
    I replied “What is VC?”
“VanCleef. The final boss in the Deadmines dungeon. We call it VC instead of DM now because there is a new higher level dungeon called Dire Maul.”
I said “Uhmmm I don’t know if I am high enough.”
She said the rest of the group was her level, so it would be fine.
I did my first dungeon and had a blast!
My love for WoW exploded. My life would never be the same.

When I think of Westfall I think of:
1: The murlocs destroying my sanity.
2: The beaks that never drop
3: Searching for a tank for Deadmines.
    4. Lvl 60 undead rogues murdering the quest givers so we cant turn in quests.
    5: The awesome music.
    Good times.

@@JonPicoCokeJones One time, when a rogue thought he was being funny doing that, some of the low levels flew to SW to ask for help and 2 level 60's actually came to defend the zone. They hid inside the buildings and when the rogue showed himself again, they killed him. It was awesome. They even stuck around for a good bit to make sure he wouldn't just show back up to do it again after they left. He never showed back up, but my memory of it remains strong because that was the very first time I saw the community at work in a positive light.

I haven't played since the day after I loaded WotL, but the thing I remember most about Westfall was using my hunter to escort lower level toons through the Deadmines. This kind of became my thing within our clan, and the call "Hey Cynieal, do you have time to run me through the Deadmines" was not an uncommon occourance. We'd head to Westfall, put out a call for anyone else who wanted to join, and then head down to meet VanCleef.

  • @yxada1998

It does bring back memories. My first Westfall experience was actually from the eyes of a Horde character. I had a little orc warrior and decided that I would explore the world a bit. As I traveled from zone to zone ( Many times being chased by alliance ) I couldn't help but notice just how vast this world was. ( I had played Everquest but the zones in EQ were in fact zones. Not one continuous world ) I made my way to Westfall. The first thing I noticed was how different it was from Durotar. Both zones felt bleak to me , but in very different ways. Strange as it may sound the players didn't attack me here. We found ourselves just staring at each other. Soon enough I had attracted a crowd. I think as new players the sense of wonder and awe kept the peace that day. I spent at least 30 mins there , dancing , pointing , laughing etc. Not one person attacked me ( I was alone and a very easy target ) When I left I knew that one day I would pick another server and see this place from the eyes of the friends I had made that day. That was forever ago , but I remember it like it was yesterday.

I haven't finished the video yet but in the first minute you triggered a memory of mine from 2006. I remember sitting in class when i was 13 years old and I could not focus on my studies that day. The previous evening i had ventured to Westfall for the first time and i was desperate to go home and log on to my human paladin and kill some harvest watchers. I closed my eyes and imagined my character and the white quality 2 handed mace that i had purchased from a vendor in Stormwind the day before. When i got home i logged onto my paladin and immediately cast holy light just to hear that cast sound and it legitimately made me shudder it was so satisfying. It was in that moment i realized just how much I love this game.

West fall was the second zone I ever experienced, and the first time i realized the dangers Azeroth had for me. Up until westfall the monsters I came across were the same level as me if not only 1 or 2 levels higher. Even as a 12 year old back in 2004 I knew I was in for a rude awakening as a lvl 11 running to sentinel hill and getting dazed until death by a dust devil 6 levels higher than me.
Tread carefully, westfall is just the beginning of insanely higher level creeps in your path. Is what I took from this zone.

The brutal gnoll camps I remember trying to strategically pull and just get destroyed. Deadmines for the first time was unbelievable, climbing the ship for the first time. Thinking the bridge to duskwood was some secret questing area and getting horrified and running back. Love this series, its taking a mindful approach to the classic wow zones and really slowing things down compared to the hyper fast paced content cycle on youtube!

Wow, this makes me so nostalgic, I remember my first trip through Westfall with my brother in law (who has since passed away), we were brand new to the game, had been playing for only about 2 weeks. We had slowly progressed through Elwyn and had become hooked, playing during our free time around work, and girlfriends ( he was with my sister). We had joined guilds and made friends, we were progressing through but were stuck when trying to find a pocket watch, we met up with some similar lvl guys who were doing the same quest, formed a group and found the farm that we needed to go to, we made a strategy and cleared our way to the spot that had the watch and felt satisfied that we had progressed so far, all the way to level 15. I loved the setting and the music, it made you feel like you were there in the area, this was what classic wow was like, ambiance and atmosphere. Loved the progression of the defiace quests, 3 separate lvl groups, in different areas, that feeling when you first discover the entrance to the deadmines. All classic feels.

  • @nighteyeswolf

I remember being blown away with the look ascetic of the dust devils, and the first time I ran deadmines. I was grinding away in Moonbrook when a small band of folk kept tagging stuff as I was trying to do my thing. I was a little annoyed and asked them to save some for the rest of us. Next thing I knew I got a party invite and we got the quest banged out. Then the party leader asked if we wanted to do DM, I'm like "whats that?" and they said it's the dungeon here and I had zero clue what that meant hahaha. So I tag along and omg I got such an adrenaline rush doing that very first dungeon. Made out like a bandit too, winning the roll on that harpoon thing the goblin captain dropped, as well as the defias chest. As a hunter I was super stoked though I had no idea what was actually good for gear. Just that it was blue and I was able to equip it :3 Ended up joining their guild afterwards, the Army of Azeroth. I miss 2005 haha

The best part of WoW Classic for me when I played back then and still to this day is the music. I find it so immersive and any time I hear the music of each zone, your mind goes back to the times you spent there and the activities that went on. It's a type of magic I really haven't experienced other than in WoW. The countless hours I spent growing up, not just in Westfall but all over Azeroth can't be matched by anything and I'm so hyped to return to what I know and love, my favorite version of this wonderful game, Classic WoW, this summer. At least in a non-private server way.

I can really relate to zones like Westfall or The Barrens having that special significance because they're your first new zones and they feel like this whole wide world is opening up to you. I remember when classic came out, I was a senior in high school. I remember leveling every class into the 20's-30's and all as Night Elves, Trolls and/or Orcs but the one class I hadn't made was a paladin. I remember making my first paladin and leveling in westfall, it seemed so different then the other zones. Barrens and Dark Shore felt more like fighting against nature and wild beasts but Westfall had a story one that even as basic as it was pulled me in. The land being so barren and the music made it feel like a part of the world forgotten by it's own. The story that seemed so small in scope in truth had ties to all the major plot threads in classic, it made the world feel alive. One of the best zones blizzard has ever made.

The lore is actually really tragic. The Defias Brotherhood is actually totally in the right to act the way they did. They literally re-built Stormwind from the ground up and got zero compensation for it. They get pissed and riot, take over a patch of land, and now young heroes who dont fully understand or care about the situation are slaughtering them.
Btw, loving this series my man. Just recently found your channel and I instantly subbed.

Many memories from the original Vanilla days. Finding the entrance to the deadmines for the first time was probably the most memorable. And the second-most memorable was actually exploring the area on the bluff above/behind Moonbrook with its higher-level mobs (+1 or +2 vs me at the time), but not having the quests to go up there yet... and then finally breaking through to the beach with its light-house.
But also dealilng with Gnoll packs around their camp-fires... the tactical decisions on how to deal with the pats and getting deep-sixed by getting too close to a buzzard while running away. Learning that mechs didn't bleed (immune to bleed debufs). Don't quite remember if they were immune to poison too, I think they might have been.
Dying to Moonbrook casters. The treasure hunt (I think that was Vanilla). Getting taken out by the murlock elite on the beach. The two farmers at the entrance (I think we got a little 4-slot or 6-slot bag as a quest reward from them). Ok, the standard stuff too like the the pocket watch etc, but there was so much 'story' in Westfall. I think I remember just about every quest I did there despite it being nearly 15 years ago. Nothing like the unmemorable (mostly) disconnected quests we have in retail today. There were fewer quests but each one was special.

Edit: first thing that comes to mind when I think westfall: pillagers...

Just found your channel recently. Love what I'm seeing and I subbed. Would love to see a video that covers the holidays of WoW now that were nearing the begging of it. I've played since beta of vanilla and the holidays have always been something that was wholly enchanting and unique around the holidays for me personally. Thanks for all the great videos!

My favorite zone. I was horde but i rolled an alliance so i could play this zone. I guess because i am living on my grandparents farm out in the country and its just reminds of country life is why i love this zone

"favorite" memory? I remember seeing a group, i dont remember if it was Alli or Horde but a group was bringing Lord Kazzak to SW

I never experienced Westfall in vanilla. Always found the horde zones more appealing.
Wasnt before dungeon Finder came out that I actually played Deadmines at The appropiate level.
Oh and I just realized I wrote this entire comment before actually watching The video. I will do that now.

i like your videos you have really good production quality. An issue I see is this kind of free flow of consciousness after your lore dump. I recommend scripting your videos. Doing so will add a more professional vibe and at the same time will minimize the "uhs" and "ums" that people naturally do when they speak. Again great content keep it up =]

I loved watching the sunrise on the coast of westfall - after having played through the whole night completely lost in the game.
I was so drawn into that game that I’d realize the passinng of time through the ingame night and day circle before fatigue or the raising of the real sun could compete against that absolute immersion.

Good - scratch that - great vid man! Do Redridge next. What with all the gnolls and the Orc plot slowly untangling... At least that's the zone I preferred after Westfall. But if it's not a necessity to go by lvl then I'd suggest the zone I got my first real scare in - and ofc - I'm talkin' 'bout Stitches - so I reckon y'all know what zone that'd be. And after that Stranglethorn - spent half my early days in that darn Vale - good times.
