Another one is be extra cautious with humanoid enemies. They are statistically the most lethal category of mobs and this is for a number of reasons:
First is they like to group up in dense packs that will aggro others close by. Not all mob types will aggro others around them, but this behaviour is most common in humanoid groups so you need to be careful and discerning about how you pull them and isolate them.
Secondly, in relation to the above point is their general tactics. They are the most likely to run away or call for help, practically assuring they aggro more of their friends, they may also have patrols which while they can be predictable, they can also move quite a distance and can really cause problems for you if you aren't ready for them.
Last and possibly most dangerous thing about them compounding on everything else is the relatively sophisticated attacks, abilities, and tools they have. There is likely to be some kind of ranged/caster variant that can complicate your pulling strategy and immediately put you at the disadvantage when you're on the back foot as you most often are. They can also be equipped with nets or other rooting spells and abilities, methods of stunning, snaring, interrupting spells, healing, and otherwise just having other curveballs to cripple you or sneak in more damage.
To illustrate I'll bring up a couple of examples of specific mob types. Defias Pillagers have gone down in infamy since before the days of hardcore for being the most deadly mob type in classic wow according to statistics. Between the casting of high damage fireballs from the safety of a densely packed town with a lot of patrolling adds that can be difficult to keep track of, the frost shield that will snare you, making escape a slow and potentially fruitless effort if things go south and their looter buddies ready to mob you and disarm you, they dominate that death trap of a town. There's another standout in the same zone (Westfall) that has risen during the hardcore days in the form of the Defias Trapper. With their combination of nets to root you in place and their backstab, these are perfectly tailored to gank anyone who for whatever reason gets cold feet and decides to flee.
Now a lot of what I said could also be said about other enemy varieties such as Undead or Demons, but those enemy types are less common and are mostly more predictable and the more common varieties of these are slightly less sophisticated in the abilities they can throw at you. Regardless it bears similar levels of caution when coming up against those types, maybe for different reasons, but most of all, humanoids are just the most commonly threatening mob type.

Nope, it starts on the character creation screen only on hardcore classic servers. When creating a new character, there’s a tiny checkbox that you click on to opt into self-found mode. 😎

I wanted to double-check before giving you another answer. Basically, you'd have to wait to hit level 60, level up blacksmithing, and make all the rods yourself, then dropping blacksmithing and picking up enchanting. If you'd like to see the answer from a WoW classic game producer, it can be found in the Blizzard forums here:
