I know you feel like a butt saying that people should try higher quality paints, but I think it's important to point it out. Especially with watercolors. When I first started with watercolors, I started with cheap brands. When I couldn't achieve any of the beautiful effects that I saw others making, I thought I was doing something wrong. Luckily, I had someone point out that it might be the paints themselves. I decided to give them one last try and splurged on a small professional set. The difference was shocking! I didn't become an amazing artist overnight, but there was definitely a huge change. I could finally do smooth washes and gradients, blooms where I wanted them, and layering without all the colors becoming brown. Watercolors were FUN again. And I am so grateful to that person who told me to get better paints.

One time, I was using water color and I had my paint water right beside my drink. I didn’t remember which cup was which since my drink and the paint water were in the same exact kind of cup. I grabbed the paint water cup and took a big sip of it.
When I realized it was my paint water, I started panicking and I ran to the sink to spit it out.
My tongue was all different types of colors after having that in my mouth for as long as I did

love those little characters on the demo sheets!
extra tips for layering: use a soft brush with barely there (light) strokes, also, layers work best when the previous wash is light
and when it comes to watercolor to water ratio, I find that reaching a consistency similar to skim milk is a standard that works really well for me, the pigment is there with a wash that flows nicely, and I adjust from there
    hope this helps!

They are a bit glossy, especially if u put a lot of layers. If you want to try them you should buy a gem set or pearl set, because it's hard to find this effect with different watercolors.

I have them and they're AMAZING! They 're not chalky, you don't have to add a lot of water for them to activate and the colors are very vivid. I have the 36 set and when im done with them, im definently going to buy them again. Hope this was helpful! ^^

I really need help!! I took an advanced art class in my 9th grade year, and we had regular, thin papered sketchbooks as a sort of art journal. On one of our daily projects, we sketched a face then made it cry watercolor. After we made the sketch, we sprayed it with something, something that made the cheap thin paper, into non-wrinkling, non absorbing, paper. I have spent the past two years wondering what the heck that spray was!! My teacher doesnt remember and neither do I! Please help!

I think this is what you mean: In Germany you can buy "Fixierspray" in any art store. It protects paintings against uv light and prevents smudging sealing it completely. The German brand Schmincke sells it worldwide I think(not sure). Just google Fixierspray/Fixativ from Schmincke.

    • @ghoulishhgirl

soap, water, and furiously scrubbing with your finger (in terms of watercolor)

Another tip from me! If you for some reason want your paint to dry slower, add glycerine. It's really cheap and I use it pretty often. However, you should figure out how much to add, I often use too much and then I have to leave an unfinished painting to dry overnight. 🙄
