Fun Fact, When Mel Brooks approached George Lucas about doing a Star Wars parody, Lucas only had one condition. They couldn't make any merchandise because the characters looked so much alike that he thought it would confuse people. So the merchandising scene in yogurt's cave is a bit of a big in joke.
10:50 The guy doing those sound effects is legendary comedian Michael Winslow, also known as the "man with 1000 sounds". You've GOT to check him out in the Police Academy movies! He's hilarious as hell! 👍💖❤
Fun fact, if it hasn't been mentioned before. Joan Rivers, the voice of Dot, did NOT have a script. She improvised her entire performance and it was BRILLIANT!
Lia is correect about the scen being from Alien. Also they were able to actually ge the same actor from Alien to play the apart here as well. Mel Brooks is Jeish so he often puts jokes regarding Jewish people and stereotypes in his movies, so the play this time was the princess was Druish, instead of Jewish. Dot Matrix (the droid) is named after old type of printers that were aroungd before laserjet printers. Ther are so many inside and little jokes, you can catch somethign new each time you watch this. Thiis is a fun movie. Mel Brooks has done some amazing comedic movies. Blazing Saddles is my favorite, I hope you can watch that one sometime.

Very glad you reacted to this movie. The only rule Mel Brooks had to follow was no merchandise as to not confuse fans of Star Wars. That is why he threw the scene with all the spaceballs merchandise in as a gag. George Lucas loved the movie very much.

Hey ladies Shout out from the US Marine Corps! This was one of my favorite movies growing up as a kid. 02:50 When you slap yourself in the head that was hilarious! The only thing is I wish you guys would talk about the movie more about 5 minutes after the movie's over. We would love to know more about what you think about the movies that you watch. Love you ladies!
"is he allergic?" No, he fell over because the camera hit him. You are right, it's a reference to the wizard of oz when walking up to the statue of yogurt. ☺️
I just made a separate comment, but coincidentally and hysterically enough, there's a "Spaceballs: The Book", and in the book, Dark Helmet actually IS allergic to raspberries, lol. So Ellie is kinda-sorta right after all (just not about him falling over), lol.
Vespa's Droid of Honor, Dot Matrix, was voiced by the late, great Joan Rivers. She was, in my opinion, one of the greatest American comedians of all time. She didn't just poke fun at other celebrities and politicians, she slapped them HARD!
Dot matrix was the earlier type of printer for home computers. Todays prints are also made with dots, but far smaller and so many more of them that the results look continuous.
The alien dancing was a tribute to a Warner Brothers Cartoon called 'One Froggy Evening' and when Yogurt fades out in the RV, and says 'what a world, what a world', was actually from the movie 'The Wizard of Oz' when the witch gets hit with the water, and is melting.
11:18 So not really a "fun fact", but it is now because Ellie asked this, lol... There's a "Spaceballs: The Book", which is ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE... however, in the book, Dark Helmet actually IS allergic to raspberry, which apparently Lone Starr also is aware of, which makes Dark Helmet even more sure that it was him that jammed the radar.
2:44 Ellie looked confused for a moment. Remember the part in Star Wars: A New Hope where an imperial officer on the staff started foolishly to disrespect & mouth off to Darth Vader, & Vader choked him with The Force? Well Darth Helmet was going to do the same here, but the guy covered his neck; It turned out worse for him. 😅
Great reaction you 2, Ellie! U were hysterical with the spaceballs salute, Lia, seemed you enjoyed the music, enjoy watching along with y'all, always have a great time watching along, hope to see Vicki and Michelle react to this as well...👍👍👍👍👍

27:15 I have seen this movie countless times and it is now I catch that King Roland gifted her daughter Princess Vespa a nose job at sixteen meaning it was a real fashion in the '80s, previously I thought this trend came from the '90s. In the '90s there were teen girls receiving gifts from their parents such as boob jobs which were back then criticized by professional media and religious groups.
This movie may have been well before the Transformers live-action movies, but the Transformers cartoon series, and the original cartoon movie still came before Spaceballs. The movie came out the year before, (1986) and the cartoon series came out in 1984.
Fun fact: the guy in the diner with the alien chest burster says " oh, not again" because he was the same actor (John Hurt) that was in the film ALIEN who died at dinner the same way.
The President is played by Director Mel Brooks. Mel’s top 4: 1) Blazing Saddles 2) Young Frankenstein 3) 1967’s The Producers 4) History. / World pt 1 😅
Mel Brooks has made some great comedies, but his comedy is unique. You either "get it" or you don't. His best parodies are: Blazing Saddles (Western films) Young Frankenstein (Classic horror films) = My favorite! High Anxiety (Alfred Hitchcock films) Spaceballs (Star Wars and other Sci-Fi films) History of The World, Part 1: (World history)
The song that the alien performed at the end "Ragtime Gal" is from the Looney Tunes cartoon One Froggy Evening by Chuck Jones, where it is sung by Michigan J Frog.
Good catch on the parallel with The Wizard of Oz: Yogurt = Yoda = The Wizard, Princess Vespa = Princess Leia = Dorothy, Lone Starr = Han Solo + Luke = Scarecrow, Dotty = C3P0 = Tin Man, and Barf = Chewbacca = Cowardly Lion.
Not only was that actor the exact same one who had the creature burst out of his chest in Alien, but if you look at his crew, they're look-alike actors for the original cast of Aliens.
@@mikejankowski6321 Oh man, I'd forgotten that one (if I'd ever gotten it before). Great movie. The parody on Alien was in the end with the diner scene. They even brought the same actor John Heard for that scene. Other great Mel Brooks spoof movies are : Robin Hood Men in tights and High Anxiety which is a spoof on classic Alfred Hitchcock movies like Psycho or The Birds which you obviously have to see before seeing it

Namely, 'Alien', 'Planet Of The Apes' and a few others. Don't worry though, a lot of people your age haven't seen those old movies.

Since this is your first Mel Brooks movie, I recommend you watch his other flicks, especially Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, Robin Hood: Men in Tights, The History of the World Part 1 and The Producers (AKA Springtime for Hitler).

Disney bought Lucasfilm (the company that made Star Wars) many years after this movie was made. The "Disneyland" reference was more the "number of dwarves" they were found by. At the time this film was released, there was no indication Disney would ever buy the studio that made Star Wars.
