I appreciate your guidance. My DS2019 has expired, and I have returned to India. Currently, a PI is interested in offering me a postdoctoral position again. Can I obtain a new DS2019 to proceed with my visa application? Thank you.

If the PI offers a position and the university or institution gives an offer letter then the international office at the university can issue a new DS 2019, to the best of my knowledge. Your PI will be able to handle this easily with university staff.

I already have B1/B2 visa before and for a training for 6 in the, I don’t want to change B1/B2 to J1 if it will have2-year requirement. Please note I don’t have any relationship with my government or Fulbright. I just contacted the prof I met in conference and he was happy to host me, then he asked me to help again by going to one of his collaborator. Please advice anything I need to know. how I can extend and work there later? I just finished my PhD. So it is a kind of Postdoc this training.

This will be mentioned in the bottom of the DS 2019 form which the university will send you. You need to take this form to the us consulate. Further, the visa when issued has a stamp that 2 year rule applies if it does. Typically this rule applies to programs sponsored by the us state department or where the home country has put some requirement like for medical doctors etc. where it wants them to come back.

After you get the DS2019 form you have your get an appointment with the us consulate or embassy. If things are fine at the interview you can get the visa in a week. If it goes for 221g administrative processing it can take a few weeks to many months.
