- Innovated marine update and set up revisions.
In this video, I'm going to talk about updates to the Innovative Marine aquarium, plus how powerful plenums really are and how they can benefit any aquarium.

UGF absolutely works!
Very correct doctor, congratulations.
I appreciate doctors 😊
I am 100% for you. Plenums do work!!!!!
I'm actually betting on the anoxic filtration that you recommended for this cube to work. My prior experience with aquariums(in the 80's)was with undergravel filtration. In a 30 gallon community tank I had a pair of angelfish that kept spawning but I never tried to rescue any of the fry. That was back before I knew anything about biological filtration. So this time I'm doing schooling fish like neons and corys and live plants and this tank should be great! Thank you Dr. Novak.
I have a deep substrate on my 5 gallon tank. Works good.
i have just completed the first month with the hydrogen peroxide and i would estimate am 80% reduction of all algae in my 37 gallon tank. I was skeptical at first but seeing is believing. no harm to fish or live plant what so ever. I dose manually at the moment which isn't an issue for me but I am interested in the dosing pump for the times I'm away. I highly recommend it's use!
An 80% reduction of algae is a considerable amount no longer having that in your aquarium. We need to get the word out that people should not fear hydrogen peroxide if used correctly as I have explained in my videos.. Thank you for the information and your comment.
Niceeeeeee 👍🏿
Who sent you an email? "Mean Gene Okerlund"?
hi doc, i have been experimenting with the old style box filters, with good success. i like being able to pack them with carbon, zeolite, and floss. yeah i change the floss once a week, but it takes just a couple minutes. i leave the carbon and zeolite as it holds the bacteria. i'm not sure how long the carbon and zeolite stays active, the old test was to put a drop of meth blue in the water and see if it clears. if not the carbon is done. i got lee's brand boxes, small and large. i use them in plastic 10-20 gal tubs from walmart, with no substrate, but filled up with plants like guppy grass, christmas moss, and potted swords. i look for sturdy tubs, hefty is good, sterilite is a bit weaker and the sides tend to bow out a bit. but i use both. i currently run 10 tubs loaded with fish that have spawned in my glass tanks. these tubs are so handy, lite, and stackable/storable, and pull one out whenever you need more room or a quarantine tank. no glass to break either, and cheap.
Question. Have you heard of a product from Natural Rapport called Gravel Cleaner? It is a liquid. I did see it at Petsmart. Would it be better than vacuuming the gravel?
Brother this is a lot of work and you sacrifice a lot of tank space with the plenum. I personally prefer to make a planted tank with aqua soil.
Planted method aside, the mechanical filtration compartments in the back of the IM Nuvo Fusion 15 provide plenty of space for a bag of filter media such as Seachem Matrix along with a bag of Chemipure (Green variety if plants are involved) and even a bag of Purigen if you have tannins to deal with.
I’m positive that a streamlined setup as described above would be more than adequate for the bioload you have in that tank.
I get it that you like this method, and I’m sure it works, but it’s not the only way.
Not sure why you are yelling into the microphone. It made the video less than enjoyable.
Peace!
I understand what you mean but not everybody wants a lot of plants in their aquarium. So therefore, you need to appeal to a wider audience than just those who want to spend money on expensive life plants.

If you think 4 inches of tank space is just too much for height then don't do it. However, it's a better alternative than putting big old ugly sponge filters in your tank. Cosmetically that looks horrible. Plenum can go 5 to 10 or 15 years without ever being cleaned compared to sponge filters.
Hi there doc, can i create a plenum for my reef aquarium ?
Yes, in fact you can, I've done a video on a person who's been using a Plenum for over 50 years in a saltwater aquarium.
Thank you. I'm very intrigued by your videos.
Been battling with nitrates for over 2 years.
Hydrogen peroxide 3 ml per 10 gallons at what concentration 3% or 6%
That's at 3%. In fact you can buy a 32 ounce bottle of hydrogen peroxide from Walmart for one dollar.
@@anoxicfiltrationplenums btw, i use 1 qt H202 in my 1 gal sprayer and treat all my cacti for pests every time i water. it's great for molds, fungus, bacteria, and aerates the soil. i saved my collection from a mold epidemic that was slowly killing off my whole collection. i sprayed every month for 2 years and the plants are clean and green again. i use it as a prophylactic now. it benefits the plants. also i brush my teeth with it full strength.
if you search it used for ag use, you get a list, this is partial, hope you tube doesn't cancel the post for copy/paste:
''Hydrogen peroxide is a nontoxic, clear, colorless liquid that can be used in agriculture for a variety of purposes, including:
Pest control
Spraying 3% hydrogen peroxide on crops can control soft tissue pests like aphids and red spider mites.
Treating root rot
Dilute 3% hydrogen peroxide in water at a 1:1 ratio and water the crop to treat root rot caused by bacteria and fungi.''
