@@kevinhawley962 I never understand what these guys do to afford to go racing like this. Sure the car is $200k but the toterhome is another $200k, the trailer is $100k and then all the fuel and time away from work. Its gotta be a rich guy club.
Glad y'all caught that. This type of thing, or even an axle breaking is why I've stated many times that the drivers that enter certain street races need to tell everyone to stand behind their cars or there will be no racing. And yes, I've had people wanting to argue the fact but the facts are, if a street racers car breaks an axle and it throws the car into people and they're hurt or even worse, It is the driver of the car that will be going to jail for it. Taking a chance on being charged with vehicular manslaughter or homicide isn't something I'd be willing to take a chance on.
It is so great that you found the short axle on the dyno. I have a friend who stripped the splines of an axle as the car went into high gear at about 166 mph. hit the wall head on, and he had compression fractures in his back. Thank God you found this. And Dewey, what more can I say about him? He is the BASB (Bad Ass Shop Boss). Thanks again Steve....
Oh, that unit needs to be torn down to get the crap shrapnel out of there, not just to check measurements. I can't believe this made it out of the shop this way. Life is at stake!

I see those are the same or very similar at Steve Morris Engines throughout all the videos I've watched and rewatched. A bad axle on the hub dyno is a few hundred dollar fix, but on the track can be significantly more catastrophic.
I love seeing 5th gens getting mad amounts of ❤ like this. I know the why's but Idk how come more of them don't get built since there are ways around most of the why's.
One thing I really like about drag an drive cars is all the different ways to engineer them so cool back when i was younger never would have thought that you could get cars to go so fast and drive them on pump gas GODSPEED
Its a whole different feeling on the dyno, no matter how many times ive done it its still a weird feeling and i hold on more than i do at the track lol
Hey Steve, It looks like your flywheel guard on your Dyno is loose as there were sparks coming off of it at around 6:40 - also I'd check the drivers side axle too who knows it may also be miss measured. Beautiful Camaro - Later
Just recently subbed but have always dipped in and out of watching videos. Gotta say that i love this, iam not a "drag" lover but as u say might learn something! Genuinely thank u frm the UK 😎😎✌✌👌👌👍👍
Dang that suxs for him....I'd be pissed at who ever set the rear end up....but glad he found out without the chance of getting hurt or hurting somebody....
That holley tuning interface looks like CAKE compared to what we do for older Audis using me7.5 ecus. (Extremely capable ecus, factory ecu can do virtually everything an aftermarket efi controller can except dual Injection) we have to find a random letter group that someone broke down from the factory programming, scan the ecu BIN to find the table. And jump back and forth like that between a few programs to modify the values, do checksums etc. Just click clicky would be AMAZING🤣 at least our way is essentially free
@1:15 I see who's really in charge and running this outfit😜 Mine runs a tight ship and want hesitate to show his displeasure by pissing on every tire that comes on the property! Even carbon fiber rims get the treatment if you don't keep an eye out and park in the driveway!
I have to admit that I have always learned something with every video you make. My grandfather had a cylinder and head shop in Orlando, FL I grew up going to all the local NHRA events and never missed Gainesville. There's a bunch of cars at Don Garlits museum that my grandfather restored also. The oil runs in my veins too. Thanks for the videos and educational information. If I ever get around to building a rig the first 150k is yours.
Hey Steve, when you were tuning that black Camaro on the computer, it sounded like the tuberculosis ward at the free clinic and someone was horking up a lung.
Rare anything like that gets by Strange, leaves an impression somehow the build ended up with two Short Side Axles or the right and left ended up swapped, those Strange spools are through splined. One Axle needs a warning label if they were side swapped. Damn Nightmare.
I can't get over how straight the body work is on that car.😳
Nice to see that Dewey is in charge of the parking lot in addition to his regular duties.
Dewey is chief Engine Builder and Tuner too
We always put a blob of grease on the axel groves, slide it in and back out and look at the grease in the groves to see how far the axel seats.
Old school. And effective.😊
Yes, verify verify verify. NASA techniques!
Four legged supervisor is cool . Dewey rocks.
He needs doggo hearing protection.
@@JSparrowistI volunteer to cover his ears for every dyno pull lol.
It sucks when stuff breaks, but when it breaks and possibly saves you small fortune, count your blessings!
BIG fortune!
And possibly someone's life.
I dont think alot of people understand what it takes to build a complete car like this. Its a phenomenal amount of work.
dont forget about a couple 100k

Dewey making sure every thing is in order as always. Always good to have building security.
It’s his job, he keeps everyone safe, you know from cats, coyotes and squirrels and stuff!

Id be pulling the other side axle and checking measurement over there just in case
Indeed 🧐

Steve and Dewey y'all rock! Dewey's always keeping you in line! Peace
That thing just makes all the right noises. 👍🏻
Thanks for the video. Dewey rocks!
How lucky is that!? Dang that could have been bad!
Wow, so glad you found that out!
I almost forgot that you could mount twin turbos under the hood. Looks so much better and most likely more aerodynamic. Looks good!
As a guy that worked for QP this is the fear every day when someone orders and measures their own axles .. Wow very lucky!
Wow , Les needs to count his blessings ! imagine after all the work , putting that into the wall ! In Steve's famous words , That's Racing !

The worst wrecks I've seen in the past few years were when only one tire loses traction. Almost always eats it in the wall.
A good luck - bad luck story for sure. Beautiful build , good thing it happened on the Hub dyno. Thanks for sharing.
I love seeing 5th gens getting mad amounts of ❤ like this. I know the why's but Idk how come more of them don't get built since there are ways around most of the why's.
Just watch NPK. There are quite a few 5th/6th gen Camaros out there.
Because they weigh 10 million pounds. lol.

dewey sussed that axle when they were backing it in.🤣
Glad that cad isn’t in a wall, beautiful race car
all that high pressure stuff in the cockpit looks dangerous to me...He needs a firewall between all of that...
So lucky it gave it up here! That for sure would have been bad going down the track.
Brother, that’s a whole lot freedom in that axle!! 🦅 😂
Nice dyno. Learned something. Thanks for the presentation.
I loved how the suspension rises during the pull.
Did you see him grab the steering wheel? Basic life preservation kicking in!
Front and back. The rear separation looks awesome.

Those NRG seats are suspect.....
Yep them things are worthless

Dude what's wrong with the words I use? So I guess I do use "Dude"
Thank GOD for putting it on the dyno !!! The man upstairs works in mysterious ways !!!
it is one thing to measure an axel wrong, but building that rear end knowing that one axel is wrong, who did that ?
measure once, cut it twice and it's still to short! 🤯 someone needs beaten with the axle
Awesome unintentional dyno save Steve!
Dewey is an awesome supervisor. :)
Great video as always Steve. We appreciate it.
Bummer about the axle. Im actually shocked it lasted as long as it did with so little engagement
Right I’m surprised it didn’t die the first time it moved under it’s own power
Whoever made those axles makes something pretty damn strong. That was like .050 engagement.
@@picklefart More like 3/16"
The build looks Friggin Military Grade!
…..that was close!…super lucky on this test!
I love the Chevelle in the background! Lol!
Things go real bad when you break an axle , all the horses get dumped into one wheel , makes cars pirouette in the air too😅
Wow! That was quite short.
It never crossed my mind yall would check for runout before actually hooking up. Very cool hidden piece of info for hub dyno.
That is a damn beautiful car

That's a very nice looking Camaro. Glad you found the axle problem on the hub dyno.

Hey Steve, when you were tuning that black Camaro on the computer, it sounded like the tuberculosis ward at the free clinic and someone was horking up a lung.
Good that you found that! This could have been a very disastrous first run on the strip with a zero chance to escape.
Wow. Good catch
That engine sounds SOOOO good !!! but WOW that could have been terrible!! potentially a destroyed car over that tiny mistake! whew!
Interesting as always.
It's always weird to not see any ducting to all those radiators and coolers
Awesome content buddy thank you
Had to sell the spare axle bin to help with the new Rottlers, eh? :p Sucks on the slight miscalculation there, stay safe Les!

You video and audio is all jacked up in this video. What the fudge did you do lol 😂😂😂😂😂
NICE SAVE!

Cool blast from the past.. 9 years ago or today, that is what I'd be rocking then and even now, pump gas is all I need.. and them master cylinders 🍻
Beautiful car, awesome power plant, great catch Steve
Hope they checked the other axle too
Yeaaah boy Dewey
.....Did I see Ole Heavy's front end there?
Damn! Close one!
I wish I knew half of what Steve has forgotten. You are an engine genius!
👍😁 really cool ride
