Today Meta Anime is going to explain an animated drama film written and directed by Satoko Okudera and Mamoru Hosoda called Wolf Children (おおかみこどもの雨と雪 - Ōkami Kodomo no Ame to Yuki ).
Hana, a hard-working college student, falls in love with a mysterious man who attends one of her classes though he is not an actual student. As it turns out, he is not truly human either. On a full moon night, he transforms, revealing that he is the last werewolf alive. Despite this, Hana's love remains strong, and the two ultimately decide to start a family.
Hana gives birth to two healthy children-Ame, born during rainfall, and Yuki, born during snowfall-both possessing the ability to turn into wolves, a trait inherited from their father. All too soon, however, the sudden death of her lover devastates Hana's life, leaving her to raise a peculiar family completely on her own. The stress of raising her wild-natured children in a densely populated city, all while keeping their identity a secret, culminates in a decision to move to the countryside, where she hopes Ame and Yuki can live a life free from the judgments of society. Wolf Children is the heartwarming story about the challenges of being a single mother in an unforgiving modern world.

Another thing that's cool is that the guy Hana was working for mentioned that wild wolves were extinct there. So that means every time Hana hears Ame howl, she always knows it's him specifically.
The girl who wanted to become wolf has become afraid of it and the brother who wanted to be a human being has become a wild wolf.😊 I love this anime it was cute(and I forgot how its called)
I notice that if Yuki or Ame became a wolf as a kid they’re hair change color to a much brighter hair color then a dark colored hair but when yuki got older her hair looks much more black
In Japan people have black or dark brown hair. Since yuki chose to be human, she gained a more human hair color.
Me: "I love this movie, but it's so unrealistic."
My friend from Japan: "Oh yeah, I suppose the turning into wolves bit is a bit out there."
Me: "No no, that's fine. What's unrealistic is the fact that she's in a major university, dropped out, is somehow not drowning in student loan debt. Then after having two kids, she's apparently not working, and when her husband dies she doesn't become homeless in a matter of months due to the lack of income. The only benefit of him dying as a wolf was she didn't have to pay for the funeral, but she would run into massive problems without having a death certificate. I know Yuki said their father left them a little bit of money, but it looks like several years went by, he was a mover, he couldn't have made that much. When her child is sick I thought she was struggling to choose bc she knew the vet was cheaper, but the kid was in human form, an ER bill would just be one more detriment. Somehow she is able to afford a full house, which I mean I know it was probably really affordable, but still she wouldn't have any money for a down payment, or repairs. I can accept the kids turning into wolves, but the fact that this woman and her children are not starving on the streets, hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt is just too unrealistic."
My friend from Japan: "Umm Japan has a robust social support network, free universities, and free healthcare. The quality of life is actually much better than the US, and we don't need to be forced onto the streets, starving, just because we went to school and a spouse died."
Me: "(Confused face) sooo the only unrealistic thing about this movie was the kids turning into wolves!"
My friend from Japan: slowly nods head.
But the thing is, even if you moved to Japan you'll be seen as a foreigner forever. Even if you're born in Japan, but don't look Japanese, that's enough to be denied citizenship and I'm assuming the benefits your friend mentioned as well.

Loved your recap on this amazing film! Just one thing though. Yuki and Ame are both only 9 and 8 years old when they are older and 11 and 10 towards the end of the film respectively. :)
