The torque tube panel is holding the 2 sides of the car together with 36 bolts they are part of the engineered structure
I still dont understand why you dont have one of them Lisle 17902 wide oil drain pans that goes on top of the oil drain. Or why you dont buy a new oil drain container. 😂

Auto engineer here. Reason for all the bolts on the longitudnal undercarriage plate is...for chassis rigidity. Thin gage plate thickness is chosen to conserve weight. An example of engineering design is...fewer bolts could have been used but the plate would need to be thicker and therefore heavier for the same level of stiffness aka moment of inertia. A high number of fasteners makes the plate act as a integral structural member of the frame even at its modest thickness as the chassis flexs and of course the bolts exist for access. Hope that makes sense.
PS. Torque all the bolts to spec so they do their job to somewhat mechanically weld the plate to bottom of the car.

Just a heads up, lot of mechanic shops have c6s fall off the lift because they’re doing a job like this. Because they’re so well balanced at nearly 50/50, when you pull something like the rear cradle without the motor coming down with it, it becomes extremely nose heavy and can nose dive off the lift. So throw a trans jack stand under the front end and back end or set it on the ground while it’s not being worked on!

My C6Z06 that I bought for $32,000 cost me $26,000 in parts so far. Valve drop killed the engine, had texas speed build me a 700hp 427 Stroker LS3 to replace it. 4 days after it's tuned I broke the T56. My RPM Level V T56 just arrived last week. It only had 31k miles on it. I haven't even done the cosmetic stuff I want yet.

Honestly 15k for a built engine is pretty good, asked BMW for a factory reman stock N55 and it was about 20k.
Comparing the cost of a factory bmw engine and a aftermarket ls is kinda crazy
@@revjunkie7728 not really, you're taking a stock engine apart and doing more R+D to it without the price being subsidized by 100,000 others made the same way.
@@Frost640 ls is a lot more plentiful then a n55, the amount of aftermarket stuff out there for ls is insane almost everything has been done. And what I was getting at is a dealership is going to charge out the ass for an engine let alone a bmw dealership.

The panel under the torque tube is actually structural for the chassis. Thats why it has so many bolts
Na it's soo true only good things happen when it rains I'm 19 rn when got my 23 Yamaha r7 it rained the whole way home
should get 4 race ramps it’ll make it 10x easier to get a low car up on the lift without having to jack up the rear end

you should try using those car jacks that go under all 4 tires set the lift then drip the car on it that's what we do at the dealer

Hey I have a zl1 and I had the same problem with the lift arms not being able to get under it. I bought ramps called “race ramps” and they worked very well. Love your videos Gavin!

You should set the old motor up on some sort of stand and see how long it will last at redline till it slings a rod out of the block
On the right side of the center console, you remove that “leather” trim piece and behind it is two 7mm or 8mm bolts. Then on the backside of that center console, where the lid is, there’s two… I think T15’s then that carbon piece will come out.

if you have a pallet jack, pallets work great for setting subframes on when dropping them out of cars, and with the pallet jack you can move it around with the subframe on it

I’ve worked on couple C6 corvettes and best way for me was dropping the rear subframe first and the dropping the transmission with torque tube. Have way more room. Also support the front on the car.

I believe Ben Pak makes low profile lift arms. I used a lift at my old dealership for hellcats that was low profile lift arms and worked super well, and worked well on my bagged gti also.

I always just jacked up the rear end of the vettes and put the lift under. It will get high enough for the fronts to slide under with the lifts i use

Stack 4 layers of 1x12s set each layer 4 inches back from The layer below so you build like a race ramp and obviously you have to make 4 of them 1 for each wheel and I would probably make them at least 3-4 feet long

Put the car in place and jack up the rear end. Then you can slide the arms under and lower it down onto them.
