BMW R1250GS Anakee Adventure tyres, too noisy. Are the Michelin Road 6's any quieter?🤔

  • Nearly 500 miles on the BMW R1250GS, shod with the OEM Michelin Anakee Adventure tyres. Great tyre, but at 36 mph-50 mph there is a grinding noise, coming up through the fork tunnel.
    To see if it was the tyres or a design issue with the bike, I took out a GSA, wearing Michelin Road 6's, from my local BMW dealership.
    Instantly they were much much quieter. Returned to the dealer and ordered a set to be fitted next week, when the bike goes in for its first service.
    The Anakee adventure is a great tyre , plenty of grip and you can ride it hard, but for me, where I live, it's just way too noisy .For you, it may be fine.
    The Michelin Road 6's will be around the £300 mark for the pair.
    Thanks to Greg, from The Mansell Collection for letting me use his GSA.

    About time someone is mentioned this. I test road a GS a month back and hated that raw that came up from the front and the dealer saying hes not heard of it before being an issue so had his mechanic to ride it and he said no seems ok to him and both just denied it. I since have looked at ever GS video that i could find and was amazed at how its just never ever discussed or seen as an issue but i admit some videos the sound didnt seem to be there and some it was. There was forums online discussing it but no videoes. Im in OZ and the bike had brigestone battlax adventure 41 tyres on it but ordered the GS anyway as everything about the bike was a winner so i may follow your lead and change out the tyres sooner rather than later. Like your videos, well done.

    Got my Triple Black end march with Anakees on. Found that not only are they noisy, but on certain road surfaces, they track any grooves in the tarmac which can be unnerving! 4000 miles later I've just put a set of Road 6s on and the difference is night and day. 450 miles in and they are quiet, loads of grip and very confidence inspiring. You won't regret it!

    2020 1250GS here with the Anakees. The moment I rode away from the dealership I noticed the howling of the tires. So glad there's an alternative. My previous 800GS didn't make a peep (damned if I cant recall what tires I had on it). Since I don't really off road it, ever, the Michelin's should do fine. What??? LOL…..NO. The anakee tires are still great tires. Just incredibly loud. • @gl2856

    I put Road 6 on my gsa from the anakee, just because they were noisy. The road 6 are certainly less noisy , but all the noise is not just the tyres it’s the reaction of the tyres on different road surfaces , the difference between new roads and roads that have been repaired with stone chips on tar is enormous. But we’ll worth the change, but riders should not expect zero noise that can’t happen ,

  • @unrealsuperfly

    It's a dual purpose bike, so it gets dual purpose tyres, which need more grip and thus more noise. If indeed you only ride road, you should consider buying an XR instead of a GS(A). I currently ride a GSA with Anakee's for dual purpose use, light offroad where possible, very happy with the Anakee's.

Currently using Scorpion Tail 2 due to supply issues with the Bridgestones but will be back to the A41Gs for the next change as after 1000 miles on the Scorpion Trail 2s I'm not a fan as they seem to track every ridge and groove in the road ( if which there are a lot these days) whereas the A41Gs don't.

I agree with you entirely about the awful drone that the Anakee front tyre makes and am questioning buying a GS1250 because of it. Hi Bruce. I have Tourance Next 2's on it now and they are fabulous. Very quiet, no pulling to the left ,that sadly I had with the Road 6's. There is a small amount of noise that comes up through the fork tube area but TBH it's not an issue. My GS1250 is 2 years old in a few weeks and just had its service and I wouldn't swap it for the 1300(well not yet anyway), which I think has lost a bit of its GS'ness. Great bike but not for me at the moment. 1250 is a very good choice.

    I find it interesting that people judge the worth of a tyre by its noise …..you didn’t comment on how the Michelin’s tipped in to a corner, whether they had stability once leant over or how agile they felt, all very important qualities. I waited until my Anakee Adventures wore out then replaced them with the MCN tyre review recommendation ( twice) of Metzeler Roadtec 01s which so far are a really nice tyre to use. And they are fortunately quiet as well but that wasn’t a considered criteria.

    • @gsd32i
      @gsd32i  2 года назад

      Geoff didn't need to comment on that as the tyres are too bloody loud. If the owner of the dealership recommends the road 6's then to be blunt that's goods enough for me. I have the power cups on my Ktm and they are similar and a great tyre so no issue with going for the 6's. Review when they are scrubbed in 🤪

    • @Crsf84

      Geoff, That’s a bit of a dick comment really, The purpose of this whole vid is “road noise” Never once was safety grip ect a consideration even tho you clearly hear “they are a very sticky tyre” more than once . I have a 1100 tuono which could be on tractor tyres I wouldn’t hear a thing but the reason I watched this is my gs has 500 miles on the clock and with the standard anakees it’s absolutely shit for noise. I have an aprilia and a wife to make a racket. the purpose of the gs (for me) is long fast ish road days in the quiet .
      I had the gs out last weekend and it tipped into the corner lovely, Stability mid tip just sublime, Agility test complete and they will be thrown off at the 600 mile service.

      Hi Peter, you more than likely have greater tyre knowledge than me, as I have basically been a fair weather rider 😂 However my GS is so good it goes out in the rain as I like riding it so much. It has the 6's on it which have done 2500 miles and are really good, BUT the front does pull to the left when hands off the bars, which in my view they should not do. Currently speaking to my dealer/tyre supplier about this. Check the forums about this issue. Not everyone has this pulling . I've undone the pinch bolts and bounced the front to align everything but still does it. Allegedly the bars shimmy at about 120mph but not sure if this is the tyre. Fabulous tyre other than what I've said. Not sure if I would buy again just from the pulling issue...I may just be unlucky.

    Thanks for the vid.... Does the loud noise seem to just be coming from the front tire, or do you think the rear is very loud as well?

    I can not understand why people buy adventure bikes and put road tyres, there are plenty of far betters bikes for roads. In BMw case R 1250 RT.
    But if you like look of bike then you like. All we are different.

      Same goes to the people who wearing a sport running shoes to the mall. They should wearing a much more suitable shoes instead.
      And driving a Range Rover on the road, they should buy a car instead of SUVs.
      On top of this its all about our own preference. ❤

    that whining noise is from driving shift or tyre?
    does that wubderlich tunnel block help ?

    • @gsd32i
      @gsd32i  2 года назад

      It's a combination of the tyres and the clutch at the front of the engine. Tunnel block is more for looks.

    Hi GSD321... In terms of noise... How do you find the wind noise coming from that small screen you have fitted? What's it like when you're touring and doing motorway speeds? Thanks.

      hi. if you check out my recent tour videos you will see that on the motorways I quite happily sit at speed with no issues. There is buffet but not a problem. Last year I rode 600 miles in a day with it and was fine .

      Hi Stephen . Guess I’m just too fussy 🙈 Anakees are a good tyre but made too much noise for me and my local speed limits , which mean I don’t need earplugs . I have earplugs for when I leave the island where I live and are a must . 6’s are a great tyre . Yup agree that earplugs are a cheaper option 👍ride safe
