The 1986 was the first World Cup I have ever watched as a 10 year old and I didn't know about which particular countries were really good at that point. I thought everyone who made it to World Cup were good and the ones not making it were pretty bad. So I did not know a thing about Dutch Football history at that point. I really liked Belgium performance at the World Cup in 1986 but I did not know how they snicked into the World Cup past the Duch. Well soon enough 1988 Euro came and I realized that the Dutch were a Football Superpower :) And in the 2 Cups that followed I realized that Sweden was also pretty strong despite not making it to 1986 World Cup. So was Romania back then.
Exactly same for me, Mexico 86 was my first time watching football as an 8 year old, I was so clueless about football just remember hearing a lot about Liverpool then lol....By Euro 88 had bit more understanding about other countries who didn't go to Mexico 86 such as Holland
Yes, but you only came into Play Off because of a goal about 5 min before end against Hungary in the last group match. Without that, Austria would have advanced into PO
The young stars of Netherland were too young at the start of QWC86. It's a shame because in the 1986 they would have been a better team than 84/85. They could be an outsider like Belgium and certainly do better than declining Hungary.
The only issue with today's loser was their missed identity. However, they had a fabulous continuity and moved forward knowing what're they capable of and later they played the whole competition. They've been like today's Reds and Eberian national team of great substitutes

Letterlijk staan juichen en dansen op straat na het doelpunt van Georges Grün. Mijn mooiste jeugdherinnering wat sport betreft!
last 5mins lost the WC ticket
