I was fixing the P A system at Memorial field in Fremont, Ne. I had to play a tape then adjust their speakers to where the people sit. This song, "Making Love Alone" came on and there were 20 women walkers walking round the track. When this song came on they stopped and listened to it. I was then asked to go play it again. I did and these ladies got a real kick of listening to it. They said it made their day.
I saw her perform this song at the McCallum Theatre in Palm Desert years ago. Some of the older attendees walked out in feigned disgust. For the rest of us, it was an utter delight, as was she.
Speaks volumes of that wasteland that is the Coachella Valley. They're too stupid to get the irony that is their lives. (I know -- I lived in that dust bowl excuse of a community for 3 years.)
I was in HS when I first heard this. Was doing homework when it made me stop, and caught my attention. Of all shows, it was on The Muppet Show. LOL! I thought to myself, "How did no one catch this, and how is this on TV?!"
Does anyone remember the SNL WW2 .Personal hygiene .skit: "Johnny keep your gun clean" By Bernadette Peters. "Don't come back from France with the enemy in your pants."
@@rainespells1273 You may have to get it on DVD. It's Season 7 Episode 6. The Peacock network only shows "Best of..." versions of the 80s episodes and this song was cut. Some of the 80s episodes are less than 20 minutes long.
Oh look! The wonderful Bernadette Peters singing a song about my love life

She's absolutely adorable. And so nice in real life too.
She needs to be protected at all costs. 💕💕💕💕

Written for her by Saturday Night Live writer Marilyn Suzannne Miller when she hosted November 1981
That’s what I remember it from - SNL!
I love her!
Dang she's got some groovy feeling moves she knows that's she's been blessed with such grace and beauty
how reassuring to know when it's finally time to go that you'll still be there when you leave
This is the America I love . Satyrical and not prudish for a penny
She's a national treasure.
I remember watching the original broadcast thinking "Wow! She's singing about THAT on TV. That is SO COOL!!!!"
At 3:57, I wonder what the pianist is looking at when Ms. Peters is walking off stage? LOL! Musicians are so naughty.....
Adorable! Love her!
Probably the best song about masturbation I have ever heard. Brilliant 😂😍😂😍

Yes, great episode! She performed this song there as well.
"Don't come from Korea with a case of gonorrhea!"

This had to be in the 80's. I remember watching this show, and almost peed my pajamas.
@ Dona Mullins: So did I, with my 70 year old father!!!
Not sure when this was taped, but she did this in her act well into the 90's when I saw her. It always generated an enthusiastic audience reaction.
She performed this on Saturday Night Live in 1981.
@@ostrich67 This taped thing was Johnny Carson tho. 1989 I think. But if she sang this on snl too I gotta hunt it down.

I've always been a big fan of this gorgeous woman. And a huge comic talent as well. Just wish I could see her demonstrate her technique. : )
Bernadette Peters is a vocal miracle. I loved her back when she sang those fabulous songs. Now all she sings is Sondheim, which is very monotonous.
I seriously want to know who voted this down lol
Frigids
She was painted by Vargas. Pretty good there.
Delicious song and performance, but not a patch on the more grounded version she delivered on Saturday Night Live!
Can anyone put a date on when this aired on TV. This has to be really old.
Wow!
A lovely lady! 1 of the 3 prettiest Muppet Show guest-stars, along with Debbie Harry & Brooke Shields.
The pianist looks like a young James Lipton. Is that possible?
No, Mark Hummel - I think
Yup, that’s ME, Mark Hummel. Fun times w/ Bernadette in the summer of 1989 (Cubby O’Brien on drums w/ The Tonight Show band too). Great memories!
@@markrhummel8357 you wldn't know where one could buy the sheet music for this by any chance. Been looking for years.
