- My friend Gareth (Zero Three Delta) has been away from from flight training since 2017. Now in 2020 he steps back in and we are fine tuning some areas. I must confess, there's not that much to clean up before solo! Watch for that soon.

Best clear call I’ve heard.
😂
My god I could watch the videos of the two of y'all all day 🤣🤣🤣
Haha more to come!
@@LewDixAviation awesome! Can't wait!
British people are funny.
I love it when you say "F@#& You gravity!" It really should be part of a checklist..
Dee Anna Agreed.
This is GREAT banter! It really is..
Haha thanks mate!
Your personality and approach take's me back 30 years to when I learnt to fly with my first instructor David McLaren - nearly have tears remembering he died chasing his dream but I would have never flown without his faith and belief that I could. I was one of those students you hope would give up - his words on the wing at the solo - "I would have sent you on a solo 2 hours ago but I cannot believe that anyone so sacred can fly an aircraft, reward my faith, bring it back" a good instructor is GOLD, I soloed at 10.5 hours.
Nice! Pilot's don't need to be these stuck up know it all's. I am myself inside and outside of the cockpit and my students enjoy themselves. That is what is most important!
10.5 hours... You legend!!
@@LewDixAviation It ended up a great relationship as David made me confront my fears in a big way and ended up with him hanging onto an open door of an AeroBat with me to recover in a 140 kt - Bats bite if provoked. Still got a lecture about flying the plane first even if I am going out the door - you are very good at what you do - thanks enjoy the vids and they brought back great memories. Thanks for the courtesy of a reply
I'm currently working on my CFI and and I can only aspire to do as good a job as you do. I hope I can keep my students entertained like you do. Really changes the training dynamic.. Well done.
Thanks Tini! Glad you like my style. The cockpit doesn't have to be a place of fear or anxiety for students. Those days are gone for people that come to fly with me
You two make a great comedy duo. You should take the show on the road! LOL
Oh man, such a far cry from my instructors, in terms of having a good laugh... if I ever think of getting my commercial I know where I'm going :) I was looking for such a video, will be practicing emergency procedures soon also. Cheers!
Working on steep turns from the right seat (CFI). Great video! Appreciate the help
This is how a CFI should teach. It's like having your best friend teach you how to fly. A lot of cfi's nowadays are too stiff, kind of awkward, and for the most part don't want to be there..
Fun video, great banter, good flying and constructive teaching. Well done you two. Two Dix Aviation rules! 🙂 👍 🇬🇧 Tim
This video is evidence you guys don't get to see enough English people anymore the sarcasm and silliness is turned up to 11 when you fly together. I love it 😆
Haha we turned it up to 11.. Glad you like it!
I've been struggling with my steep turns so glad I found this vid. If climbing add more back pressure (7:50), perfect, thanks! I fly tomorrow so hopefully I can try this and nail this procedure.
Great to see you two in the front seats again.
0:10 that was so funny I am going to use this as my clear when my father takes me flying
3 Bs of steep turns; Bank, Balance, Back pressure. Got me through my checkride 👌
"F* you gravity" should be the new "welcome to the sky" AND it should be on a tee shirt :)
The thing that helped me on these was to drop RPM a bit before starting the maneuver. Then adding power in the turn, it really helped me maintain altitude.
Seriously awesome vids for students, hoping to finish my CFI by mid-June and your vids are suuper helpful
Glad you enjoy the videos!

I picked that same field for one of my simulated engine failures! Very cool to see familiar landmarks in a YT video. I'm based at KSFB. Great vid!!
The bug on the windshield technique helped me a lot in learning steep turns.
Enlighten me on that technique! How does it go?
@@LewDixAviation pick out a dead bug or some mark on the windshield level with your eyes and keep that dead bug on the horizon. I went from struggling with steep turns to ace in about 5 minutes.
"Fuck you gravity" best line ever
Amazing video LewDix aviation and very funny as always !!!!!!!!!!
Thanks mate!
Another great video!!!! I should be flying a cherokee soon. I might end up getting instrument in it.. Dixon, you are a hoot to right along with! Keep those helpful videos coming!
I just gipped my drink at the cha cha slide bit. It's everywhere, ruined my weekend.
haha. I am, in no way sorry for ruining your weekend 😂
Great video, its always good watching you too having fun in the cockpit :)
Cheers Jamie! Always fun flying with Gaz
12:59 When Lewis has to fly a C172.
This is top, top banter.
Tell ya what, 2.5yrs away from maneuvers and one definitely needs some fine tuning!
Little bit here and there. My landings still need tuning sooooooooo 🤷🏼♂️
LewDix Aviation I’ll help you with those 😂
Gareth - It's very considerate of you to hold back on your incredible flying skills in order to make Lewis feel needed. What a true friend you are.
You have a new fan love your vids mate 💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
Thanks mate!
Clear, The propellor, AREAR looooooool
as a long time subscriber and fresh CFI I've adopted to Lew's style and accent.
People think I'm Australian...
Cha Cha real smooth
Nice lesson. Very useful.
CLEAR THE PROPELLER AREA!!! hahahahaha
The Cha Cha Slide edits were killing me, lol
Lol waiting for that copyright strike 😂
@1:27: "Fuck you gravity" 😁
Not sure about the 360 - losing sight of the field, maybe set up for a downwind then extend/manoeuvre as necessary to lose altitude?
Always fun to watch the dynamic with you two, either way!
On this day (calm winds) that may have worked too, but I'd argue that trying to extend the glide on to a downwind, trying to make sure you've got enough space to land when you turn back, and adding a base and final turn would be too much. A quick 360 on a clear calm day was simpler and worked well for us and if we were in a real emergency, the outcome would have been positive.
Love flying with my friend! When he's paying me it's even better!
I concor sir. job well done, throw in a orbit or 2 is always a good option if required. I passed my checkride with an orbit on my emergency procedures section.
Just always maintain visual contact on where we will land. Nothing else matters.
Good job boys good laughs also 👍
Great stuff man
Thanks mate!
Lewis, it’s not cocky if you can back it up!
Haha you’re right!
I know this is you teaching someone going for a CFI, but I think it would have been nice to talk about not using inside rudder again. Never hurts to talk about what happens when you take away lift during a steeper turn. But, im not even a real pilot. I soloed gliders back in HS and got to busy with college to finish my rating :)
He’s going for his private no CFI haha.. And I’m not sure what you mean about the rudder. Don’t teach rudder control? Surely you didn’t mean that and I’m misunderstanding haha
LewDix Aviation sorry, I had just woken up. I get confused with which person is which. I was referring to using inside rudder during a steep turn, like what causes so many spins on base to final turn. I do however want to point out again than I have no authority over aviation and have less than 100 hours that are at this point 4 years old. Sorry for the confusion. I’ll just let you teach :)
Kyle Summers ahhhhhh haha no problem man.. I mean in theory if you kick the rudder so far inside of the steep turn you’ll be skidding and if you happen to stall the wings the inside would drop, but we aren’t near a stall in a 45 degree bank angle (around 1.4 x Vso = 70knots), plus angle of attack isn’t close to exceeding critical. You could be in danger of a spiral dive which is what you may be referring to.
@@LewDixAviation Thank you for the teaching moment. In glider, my instructors were always very passionate about not using rudder to tighten a turn. It may have to do with the fact that while thermaling (in very close proximity to other gliders) we are flying as tight of a circle and slow as we safely can to stay in the strongest lift. It is a dedicate balance. It is now painfully obvious that you guys had plenty of airspeed and smaller wings :) I just know that CFIG instructors preach this stuff due to the friends they have lost from that circumstance. Thanks again for the replies and giving me a little lesson. If I ever meet you in person, then coffee or a drink of your choice is on me!
@Aviation101 posts a string of videos featuring pretty ladies. @Lewdix brings us....Gareth 🤣. I guess the Avi channel needs a gimmick to compete! 💪🏼👍🏻👊🏼
HEYYYY WAS UP!!!!
I think it could be better if you put 3 time trim up when you are at 30° bank
Gotta start flying in the morning it's getting to hot during the day 😂
Love it
my steep turns: "more rudder, look at your ball! you're losing altitude! maintain that 45 degrees! bring the nose up! you've lost a lot of speed. you can't take that bank angle out to make up for altitude! keep that 45 degrees! look at the horizon, scan your gauges... oop and there goes your reference point" Me: well, maybe if i wasn't being hounded for the last 375 degrees of this 360 degree turn...
Nice
"Feet to the roof"...I may have to use that going forward.
It makes total sense
LewDix Aviation can’t wait for one of my passengers to try it.
What happened to the Kraken radio call?
Haha think I'll start using that clear call
😂 Clear, concise, obnoxious..
how much does it take trim ?
i wish i lived in orlando so i could pay you to teach me
"Entering the runway"... is the proper way to self-announce!
I'm sick-n-tired of thieving pilots "taking the runway" and not returning it to the bloody airport!
hahaaaa.. Dirty, rotten, high wing flyers
Well done, you made me choke on my saliva
MAYBE SOMEONE CAN HELP
My dream job is to be a CFI and when I graduate high school I plan to start my PPL. I took college algebra and general physics in high school and got mainly B’s. I just want to know if this will be good enough and what level of math you really need to know to be a CFI as you don’t need a degree?
I’m terrible at maths and they let me be a CFI AND regional airline pilot. So I think you’re golden 🤷🏼♂️
LewDix Aviation thanks man that is a relief. Keep making great content
@@LewDixAviation Glad you said maths Lew 👏👍Don't ever lose your Bolton!
I know a certain Englishman that lives here that omits the 's'. I haven't said anything to him but I die a bit inside when he says it
Please next time add the landing back to the airfield at the end of the lessons. 🙏

Got nauseous just watching this
No you didn’t... You don’t get sick
What a nice country. You are allowed to fly without masks after corona sh**** i see.
I had to cancel a passanger-flight today, because i (we) didnt had masks with us. We are currently not allwed to fly with passangers without them. WHAT A JOKE!!!!!
Tbh....sometimes a hype can seriously go out of control.....I HATE IT!!!!!!
