    2 days on mine and I am in LOVE. They just do everything great, carves hard when you want, smears when you want, super playful and fun when you want, handles everything, even some powder as mentioned (I have big boys for proper powder days). So beyond happy i went with these. As always your reviews are the best, looking forward to stopping in next time i'm in Stowe.

      @@eniofotiswell they are certainly not designed for hard icy snow, if that's your primary condition go with something more directional, skinny and meant for carving.

    I have a pair of 2017 Line Blends. I love how playful they are and they are super fun when the snow is fresh, but they can be a bit much when there hasn't been any snow for a few days. So I'm looking to get another pair of skis that still has that playfulness to it like my Blends, but can handle the entire mountain a little better when there hasn't been any recent snow.
    I ski a bit of everything...trees, steeps, moguls, and groomers and I mostly ski out west. I'm in between the Captis and Camox, and leaning a bit towards the Camox, but wondering if they would be too similar to my Blends? I'd have the Blends to ski when the snow is fresh and then this new pair of skis to use when it's not. What would you recommend? Appreciate all the work you guys put into these videos.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  9 месяцев назад +1

      I think going narrower to the Captis makes good sense. You'll get a boost in on-trail performance for sure due to the added stiffness without losing much in terms of playfulness. If you're planning on keeping the Blend for softer snow, then I'd lean to the Captis for all other days. have fun!

    Thanks, I appreciate the review and am considering ordering the Black Crows Captis. On your website, you show the option to buy the combined ski with the Marker Attach 13 bindings. I was wondering if there is a reason why you chose the Marker bindings rather than the Tyrolia Attack. It seems that I have generally read more positive views on the Tyrolia Attack so I wanted to understand whether you paired it with the Marker bindings because you think (or Black Crows recommends) the Market bindings for that ski. Thanks

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  9 месяцев назад +1

      For us, it's all about inventory and keeping prices as low as possible. We basically view the Griffon and the Attack as the same when it comes to performance. I personally think the Attack is easier to step in and get out of, and the heel of the binding is a metal rail vs. a plastic one of the Griffon.

    Thank you for your fantastic reviews! Just recently bought a pair of 2024 Black Crows Mirus Cor 178cm. Only two days on them so far, but love the experience thus far. Considering another ski to complement the Mirus Cor. Anything in particular you would recommend? Serpo? Captis? Non-Black Crows skis like Stokli Montero AX? I'm 6'2" 170 lbs somewhere between intermediate and expert (probably low end expert, if that's a thing). 80% on piste...enjoy exploring the whole mountain when the snow is good. Previously skied Mantra M5 177cm (chose the Mirus Cor to have something fun at somewhat slower speeds than the Mantra asked for to ski with my young children). Thanks again for you time and consideration!!!

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  5 месяцев назад

      If you're 80% on piste I'd look to something a bit more in line with that, and the Montero comes to the front of that discussion. I'd basically look narrower than what you have now as I feel the Mirus Cor is an exceptional adventure ski as well as a fun carver. Going more performance oriented makes sense, and something like the AX or the Rossignol Experience 82 aren't too demanding for skiing with kids.

    Captis vs Serpo vs Atomic Maverick 86 C. Trying to decide between these three. I’d say I’m an intermediate level skier and usually stick to blues in New England but would want to advance myself every season. I love to carve and hence like having a good edge angle. I am leaning more towards Captis due to its versatility but would like your input! TIA

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  9 месяцев назад

      The Captis is certainly the most fun and playful, but if you're loving the carve and higher angles, I'd look more to the Serpo. It's a bit stiffer than the Captis, and has a flatter tail with less rocker so it engages into and out of the turns a lot more directly. Atomic does this too, but at a lighter weight, so if you're looking for agility and maneuverability, the Atomic is fantastic. While the Serpo may be on the stiffer side for your current ability, it also offers the most room for growth.

    Would love to hear your thoughts on the Captis vs Playmaker 91. Use would be all mountain, playful side hits, light on your feet, and just a little park curious. 6’, 180 lb skier. I’d go with the Playmaker in 180 cm, but am concerned the Captis in 178 may be too short so strongly considering the 184. I’d be grateful to get your thoughts on moving the mount point just 2-3 cm forward. Many thanks.

      Captis feels more substantial than the Playmaker, which is just incredibly light and mobile. If you're looking for a bit of a boost when it comes to performance, the Captis has more to offer. We've found these skis work great on the intended line, and I'd go 178 with the Captis.

    Great video! Im considering these or the bent 90s. I’m 183 cm and like 96 kgs. I mostly do groomers however also love to play around in trees and jump a little. Im somewhere between intermediate and advanced I would say. I’m torn between these and the atomic bent 90s, what would you recommend? I’m probably going to get the 184 length.

      I think if you're mostly on groomers, the Captis has more to offer. The Bent is a bit lighter and more playful, but doesn't quite stand up to on-trail skiing as competently as the Captis.

      I love the Captis! it's a very well-built twin tip with a lot more capabilities than just freestyle, although it is very playful as well. We found it to carve great with good torsional stiffness and energy out of the turn. If you want to go a bit more directional, check out the Salomon Stance 90 or the Dynastar M-Pro 90 for this application.

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  10 месяцев назад +2

      They're pretty similar overall, with the main difference being the width. Build-wise, the Camox has a bit more energy and pop to it from the camber and the sidewall underfoot, but the Captis is more consistent from tip to tail. This highlights the Captis' freestyle prowess while the Camox gets more pop and power in the turns. The width makes Camox more versatile when it comes to soft snow, trees, and crud while Captis is a fantastic mogul ski that's super agile and fun.

    Captis vs Camox? first full season in Colorado, intermediate level mostly sticking to blues and a few blacks, mainly groomers but like to snake around trees a bit and want something that is easy to turn and can do small jumps, thinking Atris would be overkill but worry about power days with 90 mm underfoot ... thoughts?

    • @SkiEssentials

      I'd give a slight edge to the QST 92. It has carbon and flax stringers that add to the stiffness, and this equates to grip, especially on firmer snow. Love the Captis, but it's not quite as poppy or grippy as the QST.

    • @SkiEssentials

      I do think the QST 98 is one of the best skis out here for off-piste and powder. The Captis is a good narrower/more playful option, but I think that if you're looking for softer snow performance, the QST 98 is the way to go. I'd say 183 is ideal because they ski a bit shorter due to the shorter radius and more dramatic taper and rocker.

    Great review! I’m thinking about getting the Captis but I would like to know if they do well on really hard icy snow. I’m an intermediate skier, I slide down black pistes confidently because I’m used to ski mountaineering, even though I’m not the most skillful skier. I’ve got a pair of Movement Pop at the moment. I love going off piste but since we don’t usually get huge snowfalls we end up skiing on hard snow. I’m a 160 cm tall woman and weigh 53 kg. I’m thinking of getting them on the size 156. My Movement are size 150 (waist 85, radius 13) and I handle them pretty well. I am looking for something that can perform better on powder but still do well on really hard snow. Safety’s a priority for me.
    I’d really appreciate your advice. Thanks

    • @SkiEssentials
      @SkiEssentials  5 месяцев назад +1

      There are better skis for really icy snow, but like for most things, it's all about compromise. This ski is a decent mix of soft and hard snow performance, but since it's a twin tip, you will lose a bit of edge grip at the end of the turn. For a grippier ski at about 90 mm underfoot maybe wider. I'd check out something like the Salomon QST 92 or the Volkl Blaze 94. Still light, floaty, and fun, but with a flatter tail for better firm snow performance.

      90 is a pretty sweet spot for carving and off piste. I can't speak to the Aero, since we haven't skied Season, but I bet it's kind of a far cry from Bent which is a lot more flexible. Captis and QST are more substantial than Bent as well, for that matter. I've had a great experience on the Captis as that feels like an excellent choice in the 90 mm all-mountain twin category. QST lacks the twin tip, but makes up for it with incredible versatility, flotation, and ease of use. On your list, I'd go with the Captis as it fits all of your criteria.

      Considerably more camber in the Vertis, giving it more energy in a shorter swing turn. If you spend your time on trail and in a carved turn, the Vertis is going to align better with your application. For off-piste, bumps, trees, and park, the Captis is way more useful and versatile. The build is pretty similar, so you're getting the same overall ski, just the shape, profile, and application varies pretty greatly given the 5 mm of width difference.

      Hi because i am really concerned of how the behave in firmer/ icy snow espcially on black pistes can you elaborate why they are disappointing it that manner?

      They just don’t hold a good edge on really icy conditions Maybe it’s the lack of effective edge for the length I have bc of the twin rocker - They are a fun ski I enjoy them very much
      Otherwise Just not my go to when the conditions are very firm

      @@KA-ne2et ok very good feedback thank you. I am really in a dilemma between those and faction dancer 1

    • @KA-ne2et
      @KA-ne2et 5 месяцев назад

      Well the dancer 1s are a nice resort ski they are stiffer (have metal in them) have a good edge hold Pretty stable ski I think they suffer a bit in more variable conditions Like chop or softer stuff where the Captis bc of its shape does better
      The captis is an easy ski Fun playful easy to turn
      Hope this helps

    The Black Crows are terrible skis! I have the Daemons 170 for 4 years now. First year, the top laminate began to chip…everywhere! I contacted the company and was told I ski to aggressively for the ski. How did that customer service intern know how I ski. Fast forward to two weeks ago. The skis then split at the underfoot creating a gap where you could see clean through to the other side of the ski, under the binding!!!! They are not reliable and are a liability on the mountain. Oh and I am expert freestyle skiing started at age 3. Don’t buy them!!!!!!!!

      Sorry you had a bad experience with them! We have not experienced much in the way of durability issues with Black Crows, at least not more so than other brands.
