    It looks like you are in summer mode.. What a difference a day makes.. Even though it is cooler in Denver than it was yesterday, Keystone is only like 5 degrees cooler.. Hopefully the couple days will get cold and snow up in the mountains..
    Even though I love my Stockli, I would love to ski everything you got up there on your wall.. Even the stuff that isn't on the wall.. I have that race background.. My challenge is to learn how to do the surfy stuff.. Even the slarve is challenge for me;)

    Have the Head I Titans. After I suffered an ankle injury (required a reconstruction - don't ski with your boots undone!) I use them for those junk days, but I still need something that can rip.

    Had the stockli laser ar and couldn’t wait to get rid of them. Montero sounds a continuation of that. Just an intermediate ski that is heavily marketed to make average skiers feel better. I’ve skied my entire life and those lasers had zero feel, zero snap, overdamped, like driving a big Cadillac down the slope. Buy a blizzard thunderbird, nordica dobermann, or head super shape if you truly want a carving ski.

    • @powder7skis
      @powder7skis  8 месяцев назад

      Yeah, the Monetro line is marketed as "all-mountain carving", which I think gets at a little of what you're saying. Like Matt says, that Montero AX is a pretty forgiving carving ski. They cut down on the aggressive construction to help keep the ski more accessible, not only for carving but exploring more of the mountain. I totally agree--if you're an expert skier looking for a carving specific ski the ones you mentioned are great options! I'd throw in the Volkl Deacon Master series too. -Alex

      What are your thoughts on the VOLKL DEACON V.WERKS? I'm in New England and come across icy conditions more than I'd like, how are they in typical NE conditions?

  • @sergn717
    @sergn717 5 месяцев назад

    Thank you for the review! Would you say I'd give up a lot of versatility and speed if I size down in Montero AX? I'm 184cm/88kg "advanced intermediate" (confident on all groomed terrain and green/blue off piste) and I'm considering getting it in 173 - pursuing lighter swing weight and tighter turn radius/more maneuverability compared to 178. I demoed the 173 and loved it in those hard/icy conditions, but for a longer-term purchase I'm a bit concerned about it being short. I currently own 2021 Blizzard Rustler 9 in 180 cm, and find them a bit clunky and slow side to side for carving and short turns, so want something more nimble.

    • @powder7skis
      @powder7skis  5 месяцев назад +1

      For sure, I understand your dilemma. The 178cm AX will automatically be quicker and more nimble for carving than the 180cm Rustler 9, because it's a narrower ski made for carving. But in my mind, if you loved the 173cm AX in hardpack/ice, that's the ski you should go with. Why? Because that ski isn't really designed to excel off-piste or in a wide variety of terrain/snow. Europeans would disagree, but I think your move is to have it as your frontside/low-snow/carving ski and then have that Rustler or something else wider as your off-piste, exploration ski if that makes sense. Hard to argue with something you really enjoy when you demo it.

    I have not skied in 20 since I left CO and really want to get back out again. I still have an old pair of Volkl Carvers and loved them. What would be a good upgrade in the Carving range, those Volkl Deacon V Werks look really nice. What's a good binding for those Volkls?

    • @powder7skis
      @powder7skis  3 месяца назад +1

      The V Werks actually features an integrated binding system, so each pair of skis comes with a set of Marker bindings. The V Werks does lean on the more demanding side, so it may take a few days to get used to if you haven't skied in a few years. The Volkl Deacon 80 (or new Peregrine 80 comingout next year) offers a slightly more accessible ride, with still top notch frontside performance. -Alex

    Fun to see, that most of your ski you talk anout here would be in Switzerland a allmountain ski😂.
    Do you have any Idea why it is like that?

    • @powder7skis
      @powder7skis  9 месяцев назад +1

      I think the style and culture is just a little different! Narrower skis are obviously faster edge to edge and carve better. From my perspective, race culture and heritage is stronger in Europe, so maybe that trickles down from there. But that's just me! -Alex

    • @dinukaufmann4487
      @dinukaufmann4487 9 месяцев назад +1

      Thanks@@powder7skis & Alex. I think too. Also one gib difference, if one ski resort is open in north america, you can ski the whole mountain, here in switzerland, you are only aloud to ski on the groumed slopes. so why should the swiss by a "wide" 95mm ski under foot.
      have a great saison
