    This scene alone is worth a billion times any action/punching bullshit scene. Substance and scale of impact over style any day. The sheer display of free will makes this scene iconic

    At 0:57, without a doubt one of the coolest moments in all of the Superman movies. I don't care if people say he didn't fight enough people in this movie. I can even get ove the whole super kid thing. This scene and the one where he is up recharging with the sun are epic.

    • @playstationsteve

      This is why he's the worst superhero because what's the point if having weakness if not to simply overcome them it's bad enough he's OP but then to overcome his most powerful weakness that's straight bs

    I look at Superman Returns like that painting Van Gogh did, the Sunflowers wiltting. Theres so much feeling and meanings in Returns. Its more than just a Superhero film cus it deals with themes of moving on, and how times change. Its very much in the feel and style of the Reeves classics, and I know thats y the young generation dont favor it much. I think this film will b like Shawshank Redemption, in that people will start to really appreciate it in years to come.

    Kal-El is in agony when he does this: Kryptonite is deadly poison to him, and he grows weaker with every second he's in contact with it. But because he's Superman, he pushes through that pain and finishes the job. It's not his great power that makes him Superman: it's his indomitable will. It's the salient characteristic Kal-El and Bruce Wayne share: they are men whose will cannot be broken.

    The way you dig deep into the emotion in Man of Steel is impressive enough, to bad almost no one does that for Superman Returns, even though Superman Returns has more emotional depth in the writing than Man of Steel as a whole. Notice how most of the complaints about Superman Returns were mostly about the "lack" of action it had (not many complaints about story per say).

    I think that's the point of this scene. He ignores the pain and the sickness that kryptonite gives him, because of his desire to save his beloved humans. He does prepare physically: he recharges sunbathing, but it's his shear will power that allows him to levitate that mountain into space.

    This movie was beyond awesome, it doesn't need "action" it has good characters, good plots, and just awesome all around, worthy of a classic. They need to bring back Brandon Routh as the original Superman and have Henry Cavill play as the evil version of Superman, like how they did on Injustice: God's Among Us, or have Henry Cavill as Cyborg Superman or Ultraman, and the list goes on lol

      This movie was beyond awesome was absolutely right the actors and directors that pushed this film in an emotional direction where it was herathwarming and gentle to see superman a peak of his potiential so doind great , Bryan Singer did not waste all that money Warner Bros Funded him to build these amazing infractrures like the top of the daily Planet or the Baseball stadium for the plane to fall into Bryan Singer did not do all that for nothing it was instead of all CGI and it but a mixture of special effects and building cold hard consgtructs

  • @Stussmeister
    @Stussmeister 11 лет назад

    Yes, it does seem sort of incongruous, but try to think of it this way. The plane, although much lighter than the island, was falling at a very fast rate, which translates to greater force (sort of like trying to stop a speeding train instantly). The island, however, was not plummeting from the sky, and was picked up from a non-moving position. The only comparable situation I can think of is a pickup truck towing thousands of pounds but not being able to withstand a high-speed crash.

      The funny thing is, due to Superman's ability via the comics, he doesn't have to. He has this thin layer of force field surrounding his body that holds things in place. This is how he was able to fly a pyramid to Mars without it crumbling in the comics. Directors seem to overlook this ability, though.

    This is Silver Age Superman. At the end of Superman 1 and 2, he turns back time by travelling at light speed and holds up the earth's core to prevent California from sliding into the Ocean. Lifting an Island made out of kryptonite and him tanking it is well within the possibilities of SA Superman.

      lairdriver This Superman seems to be more modern age, as he gathers energy from the sun. So he has solar energy absorption. Silver age didn't have that. Singer said Superman returns is based only loosely on the first 2 Superman movies. Uses it as a vague history. This was a small growing continent.

    • @jcampezzi1027
      @jcampezzi1027 8 лет назад

      At first I thought the same thing. What is happening he is lifting the island with a ton of dirt or lead and mineral deposits at its root. As he is picking up the island what is falling slowly is that dirt shielding.

    • @reposetion
      @reposetion 8 лет назад

      +J Campezzi That makes sense but a stick of kryptonite comes out right into his face and he's still pushing through that? He was shown earlier to lose enough of his powers around the island that 2 regular dudes could kick his ass.

    @TheNipplesofGod ITs a passive ability of a super powered Kryptonian its called 'Tactile telekinesis' basically his body creates a small aura over the entire object he's lifting so that huge things dont just fold under him.

    Because a plane is a very delicate machine for someone with his strength... especially with a hundred people inside that he could easily hurt or kill. If he just went in front of the plane and stopped it in it's tracks, it would be like the plane running into the ground at full speed and being blown to bits. A giant hunk of crystal and rock, on the other hand, he doesn't need to be delicate with.
