      I mean, according to an embittered Dana Carvey, it is just his impression and Myers stole it. I think in reality it's the impression everyone does of Lorne Michaels, because that's kind of how Lorne Michaels talks, and there's no way Carvey owns it... he was just mad and jealous about Myers' one-two punch of Shrek and Austin powers (See Carveys disasterously failed attempt to capture the same success of those two movies, "Master of Disguise"). Carvey is mediocre lol.

      I rewatch The Larry Sanders Show at least once a year as I regard it as the best satire ever on the entertainment industry so I'm so glad Garry said no and took the deal with HBO.
      I feel sad that there's a whole generation out there who don't know who Garry was and how much he influenced the best comedy shows that came after, particularly The Office

    I loved this episode. Hearing how it was in the beginning and the concerns/fears that Conan felt in trying to follow the iconic David Letterman. And how funny that Conan lovingly calls out Robert for not being able to take a compliment when Conan is exactly the same. Their humility shows exactly why they are so good and beloved. There hasn't been one episode of this podcast where I haven't laughed or felt joy. Always excited when a new episode pops up on my feed.

    I actually got to see a live Late Night show, back in 2003. It was a HOT A-List Wednesday show- the guests were Frankie Muniz and Geri Halliwell!
    Watching that original Late Night show, it always felt like (and I say this with love) you were getting away with something. Like, the show would probably be off the air by the next week. Part of that was Conan's "deflated host" personality.
    Later on, Craig Ferguson had that same feel.

      @patreekotime4578 6 месяцев назад +1

      Its honestly a trait many artists and creatives have. Even when you know in your gut you are doing something good, hearing someone say it makes you cringe. The compliments you feed on are the indirect ones... laughter at a joke that lands, tears at an emotional scene or image, people having an earnest discussion about something you create. Seeing and hearing people enjoy it in real time is the real thrill. But the direct compliment is difficult and awkward. Ironically many of the people who really crave and seek out direct compliments are the talentless hacks. Go figure.
