Contest rules said no such thing, and really, how insulting to the producers and other contestants. Do you know who wouldn't use this excuse? Dimash himself. He came second because his choice of repertoire deteriorated towards the end of the competition, and in the final he sang a rather awkward Michael Jackson medley, which sounded very inauthentic for him. The following year the competition was won by the British singer, Jessie J. Not because of a change in the rules, but because she was consistent, making good song choices throughout, and securing the top vote in 7 episodes (as opposed to Dimash's 3 victories, all in the first half of the series). She was nearly ten yrs older than Dimash, and her maturity and experience showed. Still, Dimash was second over all, and I'm sure he learnt a great deal from the experience. Singer changed Dimash's life, and I'm sure he is eternally grateful that he was given the opportunity to compete, as well as respectful of the other contestants, and especially the singer who beat him, Sandy Lam. Seven years down the line, does it matter that he was the runner up? Not in the slightest, and it's just bizarre that people feel the need to make excuses for him, and indeed make up excuses for him. I'm certain he would not appreciate it.

Where is your source for Istanbul? In a communication talking about Kanat, they were disappointed to get only 30,000 people, which is a huge number of people. They didn’t sell out the stadium.

Éste era un concurso para cantantes profesionales chinos al que Dimash fué invitado. Fué el vunuvi extranjero invitado y el más jóven. Le tocó iniciar el concurso, en el que interpretó unas 12 canciones (duro unos tres meses), pensaron que quedaría eliminado en las primeras rondas y, pero al final quedó en 2do lugar. Después de interpretar SOS, paso en menos de 24 horas de ser un desconocido a requerir guardaespaldas. Su interpretación tuvo más de 600 millones de visitas. Dimash tenía ahí 22 años y ayer cumplió 30 que celebró en un concierto en Turquía 💖🇨🇺

Besides being this amazing singer, Dimash is very respectful, educated, loving, patriotic and humanitarian. Does lots for charity and promotes world peace. I’m 79 and have listened to Dimash every day since hearing this rendition in 2017. Have attended five overseas concerts so far. He us a beast in stage. Dimash appears here in the fifth season of Hunan Television's "I Am A Singer" competition. "I Am A Singer" is an annual Chinese music competition between famous and established professional singers. The audience phones in to determine the winner after each episode. It is the same throughout the entire show; 500 with musical backgrounds judge the show by points each week. At 22 years old, Dimash was the youngest participant in the show's history and competed against these professional and top-selling Chinese singers as a 'wildcard' competitor. The competition consists of 14 rounds, lasts almost 4 months, and competitors are eliminated throughout the season. Every performance is live, and no lip-syncing or auto-tune is permitted. Pure unadulterated vocal ability only. Dimash's mother later said that he hoped to reach at least the middle stage of the competition. This was the very first episode of the competition, and Dimash had to go first because he was considered the weakest, given that he was completely unknown to the audience. After this performance, he became a superstar in China overnight. His Chinese competitors called him their "little imported brother." The other already well-known contestants were in absolute awe of him and joked that they might as well go home. Dimash won the first two episodes! He also won the 6th for his rendition of "Adagio," a song made famous by Lara Fabian. First place overall went to the famous Chinese Sandy. Sandy's first album came out before Dimash was even born. Contest rules said no such thing, and really, how insulting to the producers and other contestants. Do you know who wouldn't use this excuse? Dimash himself. He came second because his choice of repertoire deteriorated towards the end of the competition, and in the final he sang a rather awkward Michael Jackson medley, which sounded very inauthentic for him.
The following year the competition was won by the British singer, Jessie J. Not because of a change in the rules, but because she was consistent, making good song choices throughout, and securing the top vote in 7 episodes (as opposed to Dimash's 3 victories, all in the first half of the series). She was nearly ten yrs older than Dimash, and her maturity and experience showed. Still, Dimash was second over all, and I'm sure he learnt a great deal from the experience. Singer changed Dimash's life, and I'm sure he is eternally grateful that he was given the opportunity to compete, as well as respectful of the other contestants, and especially the singer who beat him, Sandy Lam.
Seven years down the line, does it matter that he was the runner up? Not in the slightest, and it's just bizarre that people feel the need to make excuses for him, and indeed make up excuses for him. I'm certain he would not appreciate it.

Today Dimash performs 3 hr plus solo mega concerts around the world. A few weeks ago it was Budapest 30,000, yesterday Istanbul 40,000, people flew in from all over the world to attend these concerts. He is not only the best singer/performer, but he plays 7 different instruments, composes and sings in 16 different languages. Where is your source for Istanbul? In a communication talking about Kanat, they were disappointed to get only 30,000 people, which is a huge number of people. They didn’t sell out the stadium.

The song comes from the famous Canadian-French rock opera 'Starmania' (1978) and is known in the English-speaking world as Tycoon (1995). Music: Michel Berger and Luc Plamondon (French original text). The English adaptation is by Tim Rice.
That's how it all started: In 2017 Dimash received a wildcard for the “The Singer” competition in China. He was the youngest participant ever (22 years old). Foreign participants were actually forbidden at that time. The director ignored the ban, believing Dimash would only stay 1 or 2 episodes and then go home.
This competition is not a talent show. Only professional, award-winning singers participate. Nobody knew or heard Dimash before and he had to start first ... and after his first song "SOS" Dimash captured the hearts of over 600 million viewers and a mega-star was born overnight. The next day bodyguards were at his door and now he is a superstar but without airs... just our Dimash.
The competition consisted of 14 rounds over 4 months. The jury consisted of 500 spectators who knew music, not just your average "Joe". They were well screened to be sure they would be able to judge the musicians fairly and competently. With up to 1 billion people watching this TV program and international interest was aroused. The performances were uploaded to RUclips ... and so we became Dimash's Dears.
The Chinese organizers planned... but Dimash came, sang and stayed ... for the next 3 years in China ... but he only finished second in the competition because he is not Chinese (conditions have changed: 2018, Jessie J. Won).

Éste era un concurso para cantantes profesionales chinos al que Dimash fué invitado. Fué el vunuvi extranjero invitado y el más jóven. Le tocó iniciar el concurso, en el que interpretó unas 12 canciones (duro unos tres meses), pensaron que quedaría eliminado en las primeras rondas y, pero al final quedó en 2do lugar.
Después de interpretar SOS, paso en menos de 24 horas de ser un desconocido a requerir guardaespaldas. Su interpretación tuvo más de 600 millones de visitas.

Besides being this amazing singer, Dimash is very respectful, educated, loving, patriotic and humanitarian. Does lots for charity and promotes world peace. I’m 79 and have listened to Dimash every day since hearing this rendition in 2017. Have attended five overseas concerts so far. He us a beast in stage. Tearing your heart out one minute, then rocking a folk song, or doing opera and some rap etc. you can never get bored. He is my drug of choice, Welcome to our Dimash world.

I’m so glad that you started your Dimash journey with this version of this song. This performance launched him to superstar status in China. Many people don’t realize that Dimash had a long and accomplished career in Kazhakistan prior to this. But some background on this performance.
This was early 2017 when Dimash appeared in the fifth season of Hunan Television's I Am a Singer (Chinese: 歌手2017), under the recommendation of director Hong Tao, and signed a contract with Black Gold Talent in Beijing. At 22, he was the youngest participant in the history of the show, and competed against professional and top-selling Chinese singers as a 'wildcard' competitor. Dimash's mother later said that he hoped to reach at least the middle stage of the competition.
He won Episodes 1, 2 and 6, with his performances of "S.O.S d'un terrien en détresse", "Opera 2", and "Adagio". He made it to the finals, and finished as runner-up to Hong Kong singer Sandy Lam. It is rumored that the Chinese government would not allow a foreigner to win the competition.

I have known Bel Canto [the Italian-originated vocal style that prevailed throughout most of Europe during the 18th and early 19th centuries] since I was born. (Dimash was trained in Bel Canto for many years.). Let’s make one thing clear: Dimash is not only good in this or that field, in this or that aspect of singing, Dimash is the sound field, Dimash is the totality. This is no longer about octaves (7 and 3 semitones known by now), whistle registers (as you have heard), or even more than simple, huge vocal technique, Dimash has an historically epic voice.
To be clear, his voice is like what is called in biology a stem cell. In this sense it is a “mother voice”. Any type of tissue can be generated from this cell. Dimash does not sing the different genres (opera, rock, pop, also rap, jazz, neoclassical, crossover etc…) Dimash already has, from the beginning, all the genres. This was a very enjoyable reaction. The song "S.O.S. (d'un Terrien en détresse)" is originally from a French-Canadian musical called 'Starmania' from the 1970s and as you already read, it is considered one of the most difficult French songs to perform. Dimash appears here in the fifth season of Hunan Television's "I Am A Singer" competition. "I Am A Singer" is an annual Chinese music competition between famous and established professional singers. The audience phones in to determine the winner after each episode. It is the same throughout the entire show; 500 with musical backgrounds judge the show by points each week.
At 22 years old, Dimash was the youngest participant in the show's history and competed against these professional and top-selling Chinese singers as a 'wildcard' competitor. The competition consists of 14 rounds, lasts almost 4 months, and competitors are eliminated throughout the season. Every performance is live, and no lip-syncing or auto-tune is permitted. Pure unadulterated vocal ability only. Dimash's mother later said that he hoped to reach at least the middle stage of the competition.
This was the very first episode of the competition, and Dimash had to go first because he was considered the weakest, given that he was completely unknown to the audience. After this performance, he became a superstar in China overnight. His Chinese competitors called him their "little imported brother." The other already well-known contestants were in absolute awe of him and joked that they might as well go home. Dimash won the first two episodes! He also won the 6th for his rendition of "Adagio," a song made famous by Lara Fabian.
First place overall went to the famous Chinese Sandy. Sandy's first album came out before Dimash was even born. Dimash took second place overall; however, he lost by a very narrow margin. He lost a lot of points for his performance of "Uptown Funk." Although Dimash did not win the show, he immediately became a beloved star in China.
As part of the contest, all contestants/performers are required to perform one original song they have composed. Dimash sang "Unforgettable Day," a song he wrote when he was still in his teens - it's a love song. He sang in both the original Kazakh and in Chinese, even though he did not speak Chinese at the time and had to have a translator with him throughout the competition.
Here is the order of Dimash's performances for The Singer 2017. The contest lasts 14 weeks, but Dimash has only 13 performances because he had already made it into the semi-finals by week 11.
