She can absolutely pull off the wholesome, girl next door look. Just put a denim notebook and a textbook covered with a paper bag in her arm and she is totally ready for the time machine. Also, I was one of those folks who saw this in the theatre in 1984. I was 12 and my older cousin got us in to see it.

@@NickiraFierceI can see it now. 😂 She's walking down the street, sees the dark alley with the monster at the other end and goes "Nope. I'm good. That’s e-fuckin-nough." She then starts turning and walking the other way and if the monster tries to creepily stalk her, she'll turn around, point a single solitary finger and say "AH! You need to keep your little gremlin looking ass in that dark area where I don't have to see you!" 😂😂😂😂😂

This movie was loosely based on a real-life stalking incident Heather Langenkamp had to deal with back in the 1990’s. Apparently this stalker was so scary and was making life so miserable for Heather & her family, she had to move to another country for a few years to get away from him. Wes got Heather’s permission to weave her story into the screenplay for this film and that’s how it came to be

Heather Langenkamp is also married to an SFX guy in real life, too, who started working with Wes Craven on The Serpent and the Rainbow. Thanks to that, she had a cameo as an alien in Star Trek: Into Darkness, and if you haven't seen the pictures of her there, they'll make your week.

The shots of the city destruction were from actual damage caused by that earthquake. While not fully confirmed, it’s been alleged a few crew members actually left the film after the earthquake happened because they were freaked out given the plot of the movie and the tie in’s of fictional earthquakes in the script.

But, I cried with Heather Langenkamp's acting and the nostalgia of it all. This movie came out the year I was born so I didn't watch it until I was 4 so around 1998. I have so much love for the nightmare franchise. Wes Craven was a big part of my childhood. The big scenes I love are when Heather and Wes are talking about the script and she's saddened hearing that it's her who has to put the genie back in the bottle. Like, she has so much power both as herself in reality and the character. And the other scene that has stuck with me is Dylan trying to reach God. That was a big moment that shaped me as a kid. I'm so glad you loved this one! Definitely a top-tier Freddy movie! If you're ever wanting another great Wes Craven heroine, check out 2005's Red Eye, which is also super underrated like this one. I'm sure you'll get to Freddy's Dead one of these days (maybe in the lead up to Freddy vs. Jason). I think you'll enjoy it much more than Part 5, it's also bad, but it's fun bad.
Speaking of Part 5, and I think I mentioned this in my comment on that video, but it's cool how this movie takes ideas from that film but executes them in a much more compelling way. The only other franchise I can think of that does that is the James Bond series, where Skyfall is like the good version of The World Is Not Enough.

    Dead, I'm dead. LoL
Anywhoozle, I'm so very glad you finally got to this one, my favorite Elm Street film. Your excitement and enjoyment of this film was wonderful to see, and your adoration of the amazing Heather Langenkamp was everything.
A lot of commenters have covered ground I would have in regard to this film, but there is one bit I can mention. The design of Freddy's clawed hand in this film was inspired by its depiction in the original movie poster art for the first trio of "A Nightmare on Elm Street" films where it was realized as a synthesis of bone, metal, and sinew.
Keep doing what you do. Bless! :D

Love this film & this reaction! I share the same enthusiasm and love for Nancy/Heather haha! She's just amazing. Also, you were totally giving Nancy in Nightmare 1! To me, Nightmare 1, Dream Warriors, and New Nightmare make up THE Nightmare trilogy. They perfectly set up Nancy as being the 'beautiful dream' to Freddy's nightmare.

You are absolutely giving Nancy vibes! This is by far my favorite "Nightmare" of the whole franchise. Robert Englund and Heather Langenkamp are so iconic. The story is insane, scary and so meta.
So excited the strike is over so u can get back to chipping away at your list.
I hope you still plan to watch the Rob Zombie Halloweens and Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003) :)

People didn’t really like this movie as much when it came out which was crazy to me. The meta thing wasn’t as well received. This movie is a MASTERPIECE and it’s so funny to see everyone gag over Nancy because everytime I watch I legit have the same reaction. All I kept saying was “Lawd, Nancy looks Goodt!”🤣

Heather Langenkamp did amazing in this ultra meta horror. It’s crazy the concepts this movie brought to cinema and film making back in the early 90s.

New Nightmare was one of my fav movies, as a kid, so I find it ironic that there’s a whole debate within the film whether or not her son should be allowed to watch the Nightmare movies. 😆 Also, you are SERVINGGGG, I’m so obsessed with this look!

    "The dawn of meta!"
New Nightmare is some great meta-horror. I watched this many years after Scream, and loved the movie within a movie elements that Wes would later re-use on Scream/Stab.
Bringing Heather back as herself is brilliant, and she's just as great as her previous entries.
Getting to see Robert Englund out of the make-up for a change is nice too.

    Factoid:
That building at 29:50 was real. It was from the 1994 earthquake in California which happened as the film was being made, even though "earthquakes" were already written into the script beforehand so the production crew basically decided to incorporate real earthquake footage into the movie.

I was born in 87, but I grew up watching these. Can't even remember the first time. Had older cousins and siblings that got me watching. I do remember Freddy's Dead coming out on video, watching a little, and being too scared to watch the rest even though I watched other ones before, as corny as that one was.
I was like 6 or 7 when I saw trailers for this one and was so excited. I think I finally saw it on cable or maybe I rented it a year after in came out, in 95.
Loved it, especially since the way they portrayed kid fans was so spot on. A lot of us were way too young. I know a few kids, including myself, who made safe home made gloves like with butter knives lol. I was a weird kid. Surprisingly never was violent. Been in one fight in my whole life, and that was against a bully when I was 13.
What Heather said to the doctor rang true. Every kid knew who Freddy was.

First, the Nancy cosplay is on point. 10/10. Perfection!
New Nightmare is tied with the original as my favorite. I got to see it in theaters when it first came out. My friend and I went to a Wednesday matinee and were the only two people in the theater. It was kind of neat, like we were having our own private screening. 😂 I remember ushers keep popping in, to make sure we were still there.
Everything about this movie is outstanding. The story, the acting, the directing. Absolutely perfect. The only thing I would have like to have seen was more Robert as himself. Maybe he has his own nightmare where it's Freddy vs Freddy. That seems like a bit of a lost opportunity. But still, an amazing movie!
