An interesting event happened at the St. Francis in late September 1945. The famous Black Sheep squadron VMF-214 held a party for their commanding officer Maj. Greg “Pappy” Boyington, who had been a POW in Japan for 22 months. The event was covered by Life magazine and was supposedly the first time a drinking party had been shown in the magazine.

Caruso the Opera singer was singing in Union Square after the Earthquake. Grammas other cousin ANSEL ADAMS Came and hung out with her Brother Lawrence Easton. And Templeton Crocker, her cousin did change the Victorian Dining to an Art Deco, look which shocked all my Great Grandmothers friends. SHE SAID We all met at the Clock.....
