    Being told by your doctor that you have cirrhosis of the liver can be frightening, because cirrhosis is life threatening. But when it's diagnosed early, cirrhosis life expectancy and prospects for a normal life are good.
    How long you live with cirrhosis depends on how much damage your liver has sustained. Doctors use "stages" to a measure of how much damage has been done to the liver as scar tissue has replaced healthy tissue.
    In stage 1, cirrhosis is so mild it’s often difficult to detect and diagnose. Patients in stage 1 might notice that they get tired easily and often, but no other symptoms are obvious. Patients in stage 1 cirrhosis have a 99% 1-year survival rate.
    In stage 2, scar tissue has grown to the point where more symptoms begin to appear, like increased blood pressure. The one-year survival rate for patients in stage 2 is 98%.
    During stage 3, symptoms become obvious, including weight loss, yellowing skin, fatigue, and cognitive issues. At this stage, fluid accumulates in the abdominal cavity and significant, irreversible tissue damage has occurred. The 1-year survival rate for anyone in stage 3 is 80%. Patients in stage 3 are candidates for a liver transplant. 80% of patients who have undergone a successful transplant survive more than 5 years past their operation.
    Patients who have reached stage 4 have experienced so much irreversible liver tissue damage that life is endangered. Statistically, only 43% of patients in stage 4 survive past 1 year.
    It's important to remember that each patient is different, and life expectancy varies depending on age, weight, and general health. Estimates, even by the best doctors, are -- at best -- educated guesses.

    My mom was just diagnosed with this disease this past Saturday, it has been very tough for me and my two brothers . The doctors are saying that she is very sick and chances of her surviving is very low . Due to me being her daughter and the oldest , I have been put in the position to make the decision to take her off life support , but I’m just not ready . Reading some you guys stories kind of helps me and gives me hope due to the ones that were hospitalized and came out fine and to the ones who didn’t I am sorry for your loss. To the lady who’s teenage son had to experience this , I’m sorry . I have a teenage brother as well who is 14 , lost his dad at very young age now he has to experience this really breaks our heart . Our mom is really all WE (me and my two brothers) ever had . I just pray god heals her and brings her home to us.

    I was diagnosed in September 2018. I had no systems. Stage 4. The only thing now is itching no pain. Blood work has come back good. I was told diet is important. Fish, chicken, fresh vegetables not canned. Frozen ok. No more than 2.000 mg salt and limit sugar.. no fried or processed food. Which means no McDonalds, Burger King Taco Bell etc. of course no booze 🥃. I bought a cook book from Amazon diet for cirrhosis. Best of luck to all of us. 🙏🙏🙏

    Just over two years I was rushed to the hospital because I was vomiting blood and passing a tar like mess from the first hole from the back of the neck. Over a week the consultant put bands on 26 ruptured varices in my gullet together with a transfusion of six pints of blood. It saved my life. A specialist told me I had a 50% chance of living another 5 years. So now I'm down to 3 years max. I stay off the booze, eat healthily and still working. Don't really know how long I have, but don't worry about it. Just happy and think medical staff are worth their weight in gold.Special thanks first to the gorgeous nurse leaning over my bed and smiling when I was dying. My daughter at only 28 years old was diagnosed with stage 4 alcohol cirrhosis, after about 6 months she completely changed her life style . Two years after being diagnosed she was so fortunate because her boyfriend tested to be a living donor and was a perfect match . Now almost 3 months since her transplant surgery she is doing great . One thing to be aware of is HCC Hepatocellular Carcinoma (liver cancer )which can occur with patients who have cirrhosis. My daughters liver had 4 tumours ( all completely removed during surgery)seen in the biopsy after her liver was removed . We are so fortunate she had the transplant when she did thanks to her amazing boyfriend. Being on a transplant list can be great but waiting is the hardest part , anyone on the list should try looking for a living donor.

      @@handle1196 You only need part of a liver, it will regenerate an become a healthy liver if all goes well. Basically the liver can become a full healthy liver and the liver of the donor will grow back as well. It is quite a resilient organ.

      @handle1196 Год назад +2

      @@minuette1752 thanks for your reply, i do understand it can grow back but theres a certain stage it can't regenerate, i don't know what the reason for this is but it cant and this is why a full transplant needs to be made. A partial transplant sounds like a much safer option than a full one but I'd imagine it has to be a family member as not many healthy people will want to do that.

    • @minuette1752
      @minuette1752 Год назад +2

      @@handle1196 Yes it has to be someone you know for sure or someone who is willing to do it. Otherwise a full transplant is the only way. The thing is anyone with a healthy liver should be able opt in and say they are willing to donate part of their liver at any time.

    My uncle was diagnosed with Stage 4 some years ago maybe around 04 or 05. We rushed him to the hospital one night and he was realllly sick! The emergency room doctor gave him the diagnosis. The doctor said he had about two years tops to live. A few weeks later I took a trip to Cleveland, OH for about 3 days. When I came back and got off the plane my father was there at the airport to pick me up. I saw it on his face, it was already over! My Uncle Lloyd had already passed!

    I lost my mom in 2021 to this. We couldn't able to detect it earlier when she had fatty liver, one day she got sick and visited hospital doctors told she have NASH liver chronic disease which is cirrhosis.
    She took her treatment well, ate good fresh food, took proper medicine but still her health detiorated and in April she became bed ridden. She lost all of her weight and became yellowish skin.
    After sometime she started getting hallucinations about her passed parents and big blood spots on her leg, her stomach started getting bigger and she started forgetting me , my sister and our father.
    In May she passes away to this.

    My mother had been diagnosed with hepatitis C then she got vaccinations. She was recovered and spending a joyful life with us. After 10 years her health started degrading. The last two weeks of her life made her so vulnerable. First, she went to the washroom with our support. Then she was unable to take steps. The last week of her life she spent in diapers. She had not eaten anything in her last two days. Her memory was not completely lost but her lungs made it difficult for her to breathe. On the last day, her kidneys stop processing urine.
    And in midnight dark Browns vomiting made her existence impossible. She could hardly survive 4 hours afterward. May Allah grant your loved ones health and life.

      @@scotcharron1679I'm on gabapentin, I was diagnosed hep c in 1992,and cirrhosis in 2008.. it's October 2023 now. I have non alcoholic cirrhosis, untreated Hep C, I started the GABA 2016,I'm down to 1 or 2 400mgs,I used to take 6 a day.. a few months ago, I seemed to be putting on weight, I saw my GP last week, and again she's concerned about bladder cancer, as have all symptoms.. nothing done for a year, as the hospital just thought I was seeking drugs, I'm not an addict or don't even drink alcohol so they ignored my pain, 8 months ago, started bleeding off and on thru bladder, last one had tissue and a clot, so GP ordered urgent tests, which have turned non urgent as an alcohol and drug Dr intervened, saying he wants proof I have fluid(ascites) which I do, my liver Dr and GP said I do, but waiting on ultrasound
      .I'm in New Zealand it can take up to 9 months, so whilst I'm waiting my test for bladder cancer was next week, now I'm waiting near 2 weeks on ultrasound.. no appointments as of yet, long wait.
      I got hep c from a tattoo in Thailand in late 1980s,but was away from my country 30 years, no medical records as told by a GP they are not needed, wth, so they call me addict, drug seeker, I was on pain relief, was hasstled so much by Drs, so full of judgement and bias, said stuff it, will try methadone, a nightmare, severe constipation and heart issues, back on pain meds, was under dosed, so tried Suboxone for pain, it will not help, but since starting it, I got ascites, so this A and D Dr knows full well, you should never give Suboxone as the liver processes it, and now I have fast tracked into Stage 3, Decompensated liver, and I can't take anything for pain, A and D Dr won't help me, I have other health issues too, constantly in pain, my back, my body full of osteoporosis... And this A and D Dr badmouthed me, saying I was as addict, so no hospital, no ambulance will give pain relief, I can't get palliative care, as the liver Dr said when I asked for it, she said Oh your not going to die in 12 months. I said how the f do you know, I had gastric varices burst in 2012,in Australia and need a blood transfusion.. it's not the Cirrhosis that kills you, it's the other symptoms that do, do I believe the Suboxone is responsible for sending me into the end stages, the A and D Dr said, oh your LFTs were already up before.. I said yeh I had to take so much panadine, before that.. he's trying to say, oh no not the Suboxone. Other Dr said, no palliative care, I live alone, I'm always so tierd since starting this suboxone.. I know people on it, they said oh no, they feel more alert.. I'm sitting here midday, half asleep after a 10 hour sleep last now, I'm always falling asleep sitting up, and am falling asleep now.. the gabapentin I said I'm going off it, as that with Suboxone together, highly toxic together, so down to one.. GABA is a toxic drug, used off label for dam near anything, terrible drug.
      I don't know why I'm so dam sleepy always, every day, so no quality of life, dignity.. I'm treated terr6.. so now await tests for bladder cancer, could be ages, but I have every intention of going off all my GABA.. it's plain nasty, but no Dr anywhere will allow me to make informed choice, they bully me most GPs, calling me addicted, drug dependant, and no quality of live, they tar everyone with the same brush, I'm really Ill and not one person helps me, they judge me, so it's unfair, even if I was an addict, which I am not.. I'm a human being, who deserves treatment and pain control, hadn't seen my liver Dr in 2 years, our health system is appauling😢

    I’m sorry, but this is a guess, my friend has stage 4, that was several years ago. Another thing, there are symptoms before a doctor catches it with their numbers, I told my doc for near three years I was hurting in my liver, he laughed it off, ignored me, then, the liver numbers went up, I was diagnosed with stage 2 cirrhosis,, if he had listened to me, it would have been caught very early, probably before the cirrhosis set in. It’s fatty liver cirrhosis that I have. Never trust your doctor, get help if they won’t listen.

    Had acute alcohol induced hepatitis at the beginning of 2023. Caused a large amount of fluid on my lungs to be drained. I couldnt make it up 5 steps without gasping for air. Also my stomach swelled and i was having a lot of trouble with memory and just thinking straight..it affected my gallbladder and other organs..I was in so much pain. I couldnt really walk. Was in the hospital for 2 weeks and left weighing 40 pounds less. Went to several appointments and was told i have cirrhosis. I have 2 spider agiomas on my arm that have been there for over a year so i think it turned into that 2021 or 2022. 130 plus days sober later ive been working on my diet. The one thing i will need to fix is drinking zero cal energy drinks and smoking about 5 cigs a day but otherwise i have followed instructions. I got an upper endoscopy and level 2 varicies banded. My labs are almost all normal. Everytime time i go i see an improvement. Ive been exercising everyday and going up in intensity. Im finally not nauseated. I no longer have tachycardia, but i have been anemic ever since. Have to see a blood doctor to find out why. Im 30 years old and my gi doctor says from what hes seen i have a high chance of having a normal life. I really hope so. The one thing tho is dont drink ever again. The pain i had with that flare up made me instantly stop and not even considering touching another drop. Unfortunately this is a gamble anyone takes when drinking in excess :/ if i continued to drink i wouldnt make it much longer. i had signs tho before it got so bad so pay attention to those. No appetite spider angiomas etc. I will do everything i can to stop it progressing.

    I'm 26 diagnosed with cirrhosis, I had my relapses and nearly died after I'm talking binges, everytime I bounced back and got healthy and got a job. This time I'm not going to accept my behavior, I have 3 kids and was supposed to be on a transplant list, but know I have to take rehab in order to be on the list. I do so much to maintain a proper diet and exercise because at first I had alcoholic hepatitis hospitalized for 3 weeks came out skinny and week, I would bounce back binge wake up in the same scenario for the last 7 months currently but I'm stinger than I was when it began, I thinks it's god telling me its not my time because I've heard "you shoulda been dead" several times especially once that my alcohol level was above 800. I just got out the hospital because I had vomited so much blood I passed out and was told I had 2 units of blood and needed 5 bags of blood transfusion. Don't drink please!

      Damn. Only 26 and already diagnosed with cirrhosis? I started drinking at 24 and by 29, the doctor told me that I damaged my liver and that I need to slow down on the drinking. I still kept drinking my butt off a year later. I’m 30 now. So far I’m on day 6 without alcohol and I had my wife pour all of my liquor down the sink. I doubt I have cirrhosis, but I’m quitting while I’m ahead. I’m not saying that I’m completely giving up alcohol, but I’m going to take at least a year off from drinking. I’m already feeling better without it anyway.

    First what will kill your liver fast is ALCOHOL.
    2nd place will be drinking heavily Sweet Sodas/drinks all day and every day, it will take a bit longer but those sodas and a bad diet will catch up.3rd too much refined carbs and bad oils (mostly from junk and fast foods), but this is where almost every human is at.So it's hard or impossible to predict.
    But for sure too much Refined carbs, sugars, alcohol is pretty much saturated sugar for the liver will destroyed a liver.
    Also, salts and bad fats do contribute, but not as carbs and sugars that pretty much create all these Fatty Livers...
    Check your food labels and you'll be surprised of how much sugar is everywhere and you wouldn't think there was sugar in it--even in your Hot Potato Chips, they too could have sugar in it and people wouldn't even know nor imagine where you would find extra sugar laying in your food..

However, it will help more if you think of all kinds of symptoms, so that it will allow him to expand his search beyond the vials. I was diagnosed…….11……..years ago. Several months ago, I decided to get serious about my disease. LOL. I went to RUclips and have been watching several men speak on cirrhosis as well as on diabetes. I immediately started a semi Keto diet plus intermittent fasting. Already I have been able to drop back just a little bit on my diabetic insulin. As for my next liver MRI, won’t be for several more months, but I really feel I am on the right track to turn this around. I had wanted to drop a few pounds and the keto diet has allowed me to drop that weight. In my humble opinion…….KETO is the waaaaay to face these diseases head on. Doctors ? Shoot, doctors croak at things like keto, but they are a little crazy, anyway !

      @@dalilamendoza44 . Thank you for asking, Dalila ! It showed no cancer, thank God ! I have it done twice a year. Now, the fibroscan is what shows how the cirrhosis is progressing. And that is the one I was so excited about because it showed………after 12 years……that finally no fatty part was there AND that the scarring on the liver was beginning to disappear. My success is from a couple of things I am doing WITHOUT my medical doctor’s knowledge. ❤️

      @@aceb07 . Really hoping they allow this to come thru to you ! First, I started with a loose form of Keto. Meat plus LOW carb veggies. Since Dr. Eric Berg on YT spoke so much about intermittent fasting, I started doing that, too. Still doing the I.T. Yes, it is hard, but I do lots of sleeping so the time goes by. I eat at lunchtime. Now, since I also have diabetes, at night when it was time for my insulin, I did eat a snack…….grapes…..nuts……or fresh blueberries. After several months I had Labs done as well as a Fibroscan on my liver. The improvement was wonderful after only a few months. Now, 89, I will go into the rest, but first……write down these initials. naet. I want to be sure this is getting through to you, so I will now stop, let you respond, please, and then I will continue. If I lose you, look up naet.com. ( I have been cut off too many times to trust anyone, so at least we are making a start at this ! ) Let me say this…..today I eat a few high carb veggies and even a few bites of dessert. Until I hear from you ! ❤️

You still have a chance to turn things around and heal your mind and body. It doesn't have to be like this for you.
