False Dandelion aka Hawksbeard. Just like Dandelion. White and pink clover. Violets and their leaves, Plantain,aka Wild Sorrel. Wild scallions. What a gift from God!

Me binge watching these vids: Instead of making a grilled sandwich, I made a paleo salad + 2 boiled eggs and a handful of nuts = Still hungry. My body does not like me, I think. Love watching this, better than any 'survival stuff' you see these days on the TV. You do inspire to at least try to live a bit healthier!

That plant you couldn't identify at 8:47 was salt cedar. A invasive species from Africa. They increase the salt content of the ground around them so other plants can't grow.

I did have a couple questions if you are interested in answering, if not.. no worries! - Do you brush your teeth out there? - When you return to civilization in between expeditions, is it unbearable to see all the overconsumption, consumerism and technological heathenism controlling all our lives? - Who watches your pup when you are out in the wild? (maybe too personal idk...) Keep up this amazing channel, it brings me great comfort and reminds me that the best things in life are the simplest.
Thanks so much! Get plenty of practice before quitting your job though. It takes time to learn these skills. No, I usually don't brush my teeth out here but I do floss with strands of my hair or yucca fibers. Sometimes I even brush with a wad of yucca fibers. Yes! I do get a little sickened by the sight of all the obesity, over consumption, drug and alcohol use, and heavy dependency on technological little gadgets and conveniences that are shipped here from all over the world. And then when I imagine what the cityscape looked like before the asphalt and concrete was laid over the land. Rufo stays with my family when I'm gone. Lately it's been difficult because they were on vacation and I had to watch him.

Taste the leaves on that shrub if it's salty it's a salt cedar tree very young. Salt cedar is not native and is invasive. It will destroy the ground around it and water. The Salt cedar are prevalent in West Arizona and along the Colorado River.
Just today I learned that it is salt cedar. I read about them and it is sad to see the destruction they bring. Now I understand why there are hardly any other plants growing in the area. The earth is too salty. I'm going to see if the branches will work for light construction projects and start cutting them down.

A mi me gusta el mezquite pero a otras personas no les gusta. Es un sabor dulce y un pocquito ácido. Depende del árbol también porque algunos árboles producen vainas que no saben bien.

awesome simple basket. theres a good sized mesquite bush behind my grandpa's house and i always used to suck on the seed pods, but when i was a kid i didn't know you could actually eat them so i would suck on them then spit them out after a while
Hey man so i was thinking you know how you made the acorn bars , why not try to make the mesquite into something like that? Just only a little thicker for more nutrients?
Yes that can be done. The beans are ground down to make flour. The beans are very tasty. I would not suggest picking up off the ground as the beans can get mold and insects love them. Better off the tree. Here is an interesting fact the sap can ruin metal it is acidic.
I wish it were as easy as using acorns. I have tried grinding down mesquite pods to make flour and it is very difficult. I'm going to continue experimenting but so far I have found them best to just chew on and extract the pulp directly or pounding them on a rock and mixing with water and drinking the water. It's really good that way. When acorn season returns then I hope to be able to mix both flours together to make delicious and nutritious bars.

Thanks! Yes, progress is happening. The cow hide just seems too brittle to be used for anything other than bait. When it's dry it's pretty strong but when it gets wet it is weak.

The unidentified plant looks like a cedar of some sort. For better identification one needs to see more... seeds / flowers etc. Good luck amgo
