I feel like modern digital technology has basically maxed out in terms of cool features. But how about improving clarity when there is organic distortion? Many people without distorted hearing find great improvement with hearing modern hearing aids. But many people with distorted hearing find that even the fanciest hearing aids only amplify the distortion. Question: Are hearing aid manufacturers focusing on this issue or is it too complex? Are drugs the only hope for distortion eradication?
Technology is pretty amazing when you think how far it has improved in the last 50 years. The fact that hearing aids have gone from large body devices to a device so small and powerful that can fit inside the ear shows how far research and development has come towards making a better product for the hearing impaired consumer. Bluetooth and the potentials of aurocast research have been game changers for me. Bluetooth has streamlined a lot of activities that were previously difficult for me to handle on a daily basis. Activities such as attending zoom calls are less anxiety producing and almost effortless now. And although it has little to do with technology, i am excited about the availability of color options. Current color options are pretty boring and do not reflect the personality of the owner. i also think colors will make it easier to discuss hearing loss with others and make the topic and the stigma associated with hearing loss less taboo.

Hi, I am from india and wanted to know about the real ear measurement. Is anyone's in india doing the same or do you know the any best precticioner in india?.
My Mother has had major issues with feedback from hearing aides she received 2 mos ago- by prescription and audiologist who refuses to do real ear measurement when I asked them to(“it is not necessary”) She spent 6,000 and is no better than before with 10 year old hearing aides. They finally made ear molds which help a little but hearing is not improved. What can we do? Any suggestions?
@@watermain48 So then thats why the lumity works for you but they are awful for musicians and the music setting sucks. Widex is actually the best for musicians
Hate to rain on the parade. I went from hearing aids with 312 batteries to aids that are lithium ion. The charger for the Li ion ones is VERY unreliable. I've gone through several chargers in the past year..... Also think about when you lose electricity; you lose the ability to charge your hearing aids, unless you could use your car battery or something... If there was an event like a hurricane, blizzard, whatever, and your house was without power, you'd be in a bind. On the other hand, you can stockpile hearing aid batteries.
@kaylasmusic Yes. That in turn need to be charged with a wall socket. You still have the potential for reliability issue and protracted periods with electricity being out.
Hi Dr Cliff, please can you help me. What happens to the iic and cic hearing aids, if you return them within the trial period? Are they refurbished and resold? Thanks
With all the new technology, why can't they bring back analong aids. No distortions ever. With all the knowledge the industry has can't they build from that?
That's my biggest gripe with digital hearing aids. They're better than they were when I first tried them, but getting them to sound good in live concert settings (or even just loud music) can be pretty challenging. I had old analog Oticon 390PLs that work beautifully for concerts with no distortion or clipping. I now have Oticon Xceeds which aren't too bad for live music, but I still get clipping for very loud concerts. They're also terrible for streaming music and clip constantly on certain artists, like Bob Dylan's singing (which clips very badly). So I had to get a 2nd pair of a different brand just for day to day use and streaming (but they're really terrible for live music). I'm also still a bit annoyed that when they started phasing out analog hearing aids, no one thought to actually ask the people who rely on them (and prefer them). They just decided that digital is better so get used to it. Hearing aid manufacturers seem to have only just realised in the last 10 years that deaf people actually enjoy music and now we're seeing attempts to actually make music sound decent for us. But most hearing aids can't handle inputs louder than 96db which is useless for concerts (even orchestras can approach at least 115db).
@@brettlemouton7958 For musicians, I would recommend Widex as I use those and have had no luck with anything else prior, although the Lyric from Phonak is amazing although I unfortunately am not a candidate :( but Widex is great
