I suggest flexible silicone caulking worked well into the cracks. And if the budget can handle it, cover the entire outside with that rubberized roofing compound that's made for waterproofing flat roofs. Or you could cover the entire thing with some sort of fish scale type of roofing material. However you decide to do it, I DO suggest you treat the entire structure as one big roof.
When you say houseboat, do you mean the houseboat from The Fly 2, or flood resistant structure that floats from foundation and detaches to become boat in delugian cataclysm?

I read the entire Ryan’s ruclips.net/user/postUgkxGqOCINHE0Z0E5gxzSdNi9NWGugRY5Hm2 Plans and was able to make a shed plan. Using Ryan’s Shed Plans alone, the shed itself is great. Spray rhino liner inside the whole ball, or spray fiberglass resin inside the ball or polyester resin. Inbed strings of LED lights between layers that way when it's all done the LEDs are sealed into the shell and when you apply power to them it looks like the stars everywhere around the inside of the ball.
The circles continue to get more elaborate in every build, and yet I TRULY hope there’s a circle bubble window added! One of the coolest builds I’ve ever seen!
Hazel ☘️ … Lord Don , I bow to you ! Great gift … I bought this for a friend … then spent a very long time building a scaled Manor House , farm buildings, animals etc … it was great fun ! … we ended up getting a foot square of turf and he put this little model in his garden ! So highly recommended your subscribers let their imagination fly with this gift ! We did visit the general area for fun in our campers a few years ago ! Again adding to our Scottish adventure and we got to drink some good scotch whiskey (not as good as Irish Whisky tho ! ) and enjoy the hospitality of the wonderful Scots ! 🙏☘️😘
Kevin I don’t know what kind of “house boat” you will build but I have no doubt it will be unique & awesome. Maybe a see through section on the bottom with underwater lights run with one of your power packs.
You could line the upper part of the inside dome with wedges of blue or pink insulation board. 4’x8’ sheets are fairly light, waterproof and can be cut with a sharp knife. Repeat the lower portions with remaining cedar slats. Consider adding a sink drain near the bottom of the dome to allow moisture and condensation to escape. A gallon can of Thompson’s Water Seal ($15USD) can be sprayed on the exterior surfaces with a garden sprayer, preserves the wood and waterproofing cracks. Stay safe out there Kevin. Wishing you and your family a blessed week, gentle autumn weather and restful evenings. Peace
O my Kevin the things you come up with. Just can't leave you and Don alone together. Your ball looks great. I would most likely be the one that said, I've had it, good enough. You have many hours in this ball, and not even done yet. The wife's cinnamon rolls look good. Thanks for sharing.
Love how creative you are! One random idea for your ball cabin, is a small or long window so you can see the sky which could provide natural lighting during the day and able to see the stars shining at night?
I’d spray the inside with Flex seal then spray foam to also insulate and cover all the screws no need to cut them off. Then do what you do best and wow us with a amazing interior with fantastic lighting and sleeping area. Can’t wait to see what you choose to do love this❤zacks boat has flaw it’s tippy he can’t sit on the sides or it wants to tip over, so a thought I had was to attach a subfloor mounted in the front and the rear so when you say I don’t want to side it would pull from the center however you’re going to lose some space but I’m sure you’ll figure it out
this ball looks fantastic! ( a bit like a ball of elastic bands ) or even Saturn! the metal frame work is stong enough to put a bordwalk saturn ring aroud it! i think that would look great, a bit of outa space in your "space" bring all the things of nature together, looking up at the stars at night from your eatrh based ( floating ) planet house in the woods!!!! also i saw a comment below about some led lights sprayed into the inside that coupled with the saturn ring would be outa this world! lol little update you could use different woods for each ring ( maybe three or four rings in total ) so it has diffrent colours just like saturns rings!
This sphere structure just brings me joy. I love that you harvested your own cedar and that it resembles a ball if yarn. Can't wait to see the finished result!
Hey neighbor! I'm in Ohio this weekend celebrating one year engagement and my beloved's birthday so I didn't get to see this until the evening time. I gotta say, that siding looks amazing and I now realize why we haven't seen you for three weeks! I'm so happy your pond has bounced back, I was worried you were going to be left with a festering putrid fish grave. 🐟 I'm happy to see Rachael and the beautiful woodland sprite again. (Hi Rachael 👋, don't worry burnt is called flavoring in my house) Congratulations Don on your current Lordship, you deserve it 👏 The only thing I'm going to suggest for the house boat is pontoons for stability and hammock for a bed so you won't get wet while sleeping 😴 Alrighty Kevin, have fun, be safe, hug your loved ones and keep creating because what you make is awesome! ✌️💗🐖💨
That is adorable he is now Lord Don!!! 😍 This is an amazing build. I was just wondering when you last posted. Glad to see you all today. Peace and good fortune and good health to you all and your families. 😃
I visited my land near Glencoe, Scotland this past summer. The conservation work going on over there is fantastic, and it's amazing to be a very tiny part of all that. Congratulations, Lord Don!
Looking great, Kev. When you do the inside, I suggest you paint it with "the blackest black" paint. (Blacker than Vanta black and cheaper too). It will make the inside seem endless. Add fairy lights or LEDs and you'll have your own starry night sky.
What's great about this ball is that it's movable, with a gantry type setup or something.. and you can also put this on large floats so it becomes a ball house boat, achieving that goal too, and becoming an even more out-there structure !
Just need to ensure that the j-nut and all elements are rated for some extra Gs if waves of any substance are to be encountered, maybe include a shock absorber device and sway dampers.. It may even end up more comfy and stable than an ordinary boat..
mini kitchen, solar panels, storage, bed, and possibly toilet. I'm liking the ball house. I guess caulking around the inside before finishing. built-in shelving and seating will look nice inside.
Zach’s boat is coming along really well but I have no count you’re going to blow him out of the water again 😂 Can’t wait to see that project! Ball house is insane dude!!
You said that it was like being inside of a giant game of plinko. To the mind's eye of my memory, it looks like you're inside of a collapsed old barn. With the light filtering through the cracks in the walls, it looks like busted wall sections from the inside. It will smell GREAT after a rain storm!
Welcome to ship building and planking. A challenging yet very rewarding process. Hope you have a " toast " once you get the whiskey plank in. Traditional ship planking solve the "filling the gaps" between planks with caulking or corking. But I don't think that would be time well spent for this project. But it would help in insulation. Cool fun build / project Kevin. 👍
I would suggest using fiberglass for the outer shell. PaskMakes recently did a cedar kayak, and he glassed the entire body with fiberglass and resin, and it makes a beautiful waterproof and transparent shell over the cedar. That would take care of your water issues inside and out, as well as add some strength. Fiberglass is surprisingly flexible. Sheets of it would wrap without issue around the curves of the ball.
Btw, on the fun fact for the day, .. you are correct, and also before planes ( ball on top of throttle lever/s) it referred to the centrifugal governor on locomotives / steam engines , when the engine was at full speed, the spinning governor that had balls on the ends, were all the way extended and the sayings that accompanied we're "balls to the walls" and "balls out" referring to full speed. It became very popular associated with hot rods and fighter planes. 😉👍
I would like everything to be soft and round inside. A lot of cushing. Its small, so no kitchen, tv etc. Maybe it can become 1 big bed-like sleeping ball. Tubes from the outside going in fore heat and food/water. Must it be livable in winter as well? Storage in the top that you can pull down and up. It will need a lot of clever locking systems like campers and caravans have. Tiny houses got super clever systems inside. You might want it to fit inside the boat as well? Greg Ovens knows how to out-clever Fowler. He even built a fish-o-matic.👊🤝🥰Good luck and great fun
This channel is so great. I'm really enjoying the creative and beautiful builds. It's not just that it's a neat-looking finished product, but I love being able to see the joys and sorrows of how it's built. I bet that cedar smells great too.
I'm not sure if this exists, but is there such a thing as waterproof decoupage medium? I think it would be super cool for the inside of your sphere, and you could even use themed prints for it. Maybe something Lordly for Don :)
I say you should make it into a theater with wraparound seating so you and your family can sit and and enjoy. Put a pull down projector screen above the doorway. Your dome structure will give any speaker system a boost like no.other.
I think THIS is turning out extremely awesome 😎 Lord Don is living up to his new title the Lord builder helper I can't wait to see the finishing video and sealants you use very curious what will provide dryness with breathability!!!!!
Put portholes in it for windows, or a periscope, could put in a low floor and a high ceiling for storage above and below. As for the houseboat you were supposed to build I suggest a tri-hull to have a stable platform and two venturi water channels around the main hull.
What u needed to do was turn the ball on its side and make the center of each side the new temporary top and bottom just while ur applying the boards/siding. Then run all the boards full length center to center of the new "side centers", so that when u stand it up again all the boards will run around the ball with the end of each board meeting in the middle/center of each side. Obviously the boards will have to b cut to fit together where they meet in the center of both sides. Always fun guys. 👍 Still looks cool tho.
Furniture idea! I would love to see a chair, that the seat folds down and is attached to the curved wall. Letting the backrest be the interior of the ball. And when you are done you can just fold it up again.
Great project. Tip, remember latitude as in the rungs of a ladder! Laddertude lol! Also great point to bring up about the plywood, old vs new. Yeah we do seem to be going the wrong way in quality. Like they say don't make em like they used to!
You could pour a couple buckets of resin and then grab a trowel to fill in spots. It'll allow you to waterproof it by filling in the gaps and allow you to keep the natural color.
Close cell spray foam insulation for the inside. You can get DIY kits for not that much! That will give you a nice barrier AND more than enough insulation.
This is probably going tobe the coolest build on your property Kevin! It looks awesome already! Am curious on what you decide to waterproof it with, though!
I would probably use some total boat resin on the outside with some fiberglass. I think it dries clear which would cover you not only on sealing the build but also giving you a leg up on your houseboat build.
For waterproofing, how about using that heat-shrink they use to cover boats in outdoor winter storage? If you went just past the equator it would stay on no problem.
"Balls to the wall" is much older than that! Back in the day, steam engines had this small issue where, if you ran them a little too fast, they tended to accelerate very quickly in all directions at once. That's when a very smart person figured out that if you put some weights on the end of opposing swing arms rotating around the output shaft, you could use the distance those arms swing outward to govern the speed of the engine by adjusting the steam valve timing. So, the faster the machine would run, the further outward those little weights would swing. "Balls to the wall" refers to running your steam engine at unsafe speeds, beyond the governor's ability to control the machine.
Elastomeric roof coating that they put 0ver foam roofs is the ticket for this monster ball. It comes in whiten but after a couple of thick coats, with a roller, you can paint it any rainbow color you want and no smell . I would do the whole sphere because it is also a vapor barrier too! Cheap easy and it works!
You can use sealed plastic barrels as pontoons for your boat. That way you don't have to make a tiny house boat. That will allow you to use a jet ski trailer to haul it.
You can connect several spheres and make an Apartment. Each sphere will represent a room, bath, kitchen and also it would be interesting to make a balkony...
The reason the expression "balls to the wall" means full throttle comes from flyball governors, popularized by steam engines, but first invented in the mid 17th Century. The faster an engine, or originally, a windmill, spun, the more the spherical weights would swing up an out, and hence closer to a wall. This motion was attached to a mechanism that would either separate the grindstones in a windmill, or decrease the steam pressure into the engine and thereby slowing the engine down to regulate its speed.
On the cinnamon rolls, I have a ton of cast iron for outdoor cooking fireplace cooking, I would have used a Dutch oven for baking them... with a lot of butter... my cooking fireplace has two levels of shelves made with pavers supported by sections of t-posts to even out the heat... my 2 quart Dutch ovens can sit on the upper shelf for and even temperature of 2-3 hundred degrees Fahrenheit, the lower shelf is more for larger Dutch ovens for stews or roasts... the cooking fireplace is made of unmortared cement blocks and pavers and bricks... an air space between structural outer layer and firebox layer where the firebox walls and floor can be replaced easily... t-posts that support removable 6x6 inch pavers that are over 2 inches thick, allow those pavers to be lifted out easily in case of replacement for repair or with a grill for cooking over a selected wood cooking fire like flavoring hardwoods ... 16 inch covered cast iron skillet has been used on the 12-14 inch wide lower shelf for pizzas (frozen, store bought) over more resinous wood fires (smoke you don't want to taste on food) Dfir or pine... as an alternative for baking are some of the camping type ovens used on RUclips that have isolated shelves inside to not bottom burn breads.
If you weren't afraid of it spilling out through the cracks and needing to be sanded or cleaned off, I might suggest smoothing expanding foam insulation inside the whole thing after bending or cutting down the nails and screws. Fibreglass on the inside would be light weight and strong enough to walk on etc, but probably be very expensive. Some kind of rubber for the inner layer might me a better solution. Otherwise finished wood boards would also be nice inside, in theory, but as the green wood settles and shrinks over time it might end up with a lot of gaps and I don't imagine you're eager to do the same thing again from the inside. Woven branches, green springy ones, might also make a nifty interior.
Hazel ☘️ … Third comment on this one ! Loving the Ball House ! … really enjoying this project Kev and Don ! You could have completed that with the input of your two beautiful ladies and their yum yum cinnamon rolls ! 🙏☘️😘
Padded walls with plenty of pillow inside so that you can lounge around in. maybe some small moveable tables. Higher standing height shelves for storage.
The term "balls to the wall" originated with James Watt's invention of the centrifugal governor used on early steam engines circa 1774. The governor balls would spin out toward the walls as the steam engine was at full steam.
Love the ball build. I thought it was ballsy. The house boat should have a Mississippi boat style big wheel maybe? Or a submarine? The sky is the limit?
Hey dude u can caulk all the gaps with caulking n seal the outside with total boat brand clear resin ... n also put in some clear resin windows with different leaves of fall colors encapsulated in the resin ....as far as interior spray foam it to look like rock n finish with a rock coat spray ... n dont forget to wire it up for your energy pack n some type of heat source ....but looking really awesome always enjoy your shows STEVEN
"Balls to the wall" is a lot older than the Vietnam war. It comes from a type of regulator used on old steam engines. You had a pair of brass balls hanging on a pivot connected to the output of the engine and as the output rotational speed increased the balls would begin to move out due to centrifugal force. The arms the balls used to connect them to the pivot were also governors for how much steam to let into the cylinders driving the output as a sort of self regulating speed limiter. If you cranked the heat and steam flow up enough that the balls were basically flung out to 90 degrees you were running the machine balls out or balls to the walls. Later it became used in a lot of situations where a machine was working to the limits of its capacity.
I think bouncing around the idea of epoxying the whole thing on the outside with clear epoxy like a basketball court floor would be a solid plan. It would keep the awesome look and be completely sealed. You could even buff it. Haha
For a good seal you would probably have to fiberglass resin and cloth. Then blue foam insulation it's like a Styrofoam then wood on the inside as well. Hopefully there will be a window or two need ventilation. Still say might need a couple foot holds welded the the inside of the door to get in properly. Have you thought of the swing factore while getting in??
Well Rounded Episode ! For Sure , the problem solving and creativeness on this one is off the charts ! You may have to build Lord Don his own Castle now ! With a throne ! for him to watch over the Village and his subjects !
I've heard the term "balls to the walls" was used in the steam engine days when the 2 balls, kind of like a governor, would spread apart while spinning.

Time will tell. Got my work cut out for me.
Ok, you've now officially tipped over to insane. You got to have balls to build that cabin ball.

I would suggest using fiberglass for the outer shell. PaskMakes recently did a cedar kayak, and he glassed the entire body with fiberglass and resin, and it makes a beautiful waterproof and transparent shell over the cedar. You can't have a house boat without a hot tub. Absolute necessity.
Put a roof on the top half of the teepee structure to shelter the ball, then you don’t need to weatherproof the ball. Looks awesome, good job!

"Poor man's fiberglass" would work perfect for your external waterproofing, much more affordable than contemporary alternatives too.
You could pour a couple buckets of resin and then grab a trowel to fill in spots. It'll allow you to waterproof it by filling in the gaps and allow you to keep the natural color.
Looks like you guys are having a ball!
I love the knit texture of the ball!
I sure have missed your videos. Glad your here.
This is a fun kitchy-type gift (in a good way). If I have to go to a costume party, I'll be sure to dress befitting my new title.🤣
You Tube Bikes and Beard's guy just became a Lord as well.. A place to bury your ashes when you croak. LOL.
FLEX SEAL
Congratulations Don on your Lordship
For furniture, I think you should find some water resistant/proof bean bag chairs and bed.
This guy never gets bored. He say to himself next project.
I Think you you should spray the inside with Line-X and then use an expanding foam kit. Lots of tyvek suit work.
Since Buger had a king what does Lord Don get? Fun and creative leads the way. Great health to all.
LOVE how it looks like a ball of yarn. 👏👏
Just made my saturday night!

Third comment on this one !
Loving the Ball House ! … really enjoying this project Kev and Don !
You could have completed that with the input of your two beautiful ladies and their yum yum cinnamon rolls !

Heey! Kevin's back . Thank goodness, was starting to get worried and have withdrawals
Spray on truck bed liner to waterproof the top side. Either inside or outside would work.
Good morning from Syracuse NY USA brother and everyone else
Padded walls with plenty of pillow inside so that you can lounge around in. maybe some small moveable tables. Higher standing height shelves for storage.
The term "balls to the wall" originated with James Watt's invention of the centrifugal governor used on early steam engines circa 1774. The governor balls would spin out toward the walls as the steam engine was at full steam.
How do you come up with these crazy builds? Keep up the great work.
My new favourite channel, "Swearing in the forest with Kevin"!
Love the ball build. I thought it was ballsy. The house boat should have a Mississippi boat style big wheel maybe? Or a submarine? The sky is the limit?
Hey dude u can caulk all the gaps with caulking n seal the outside with total boat brand clear resin ... n also put in some clear resin windows with different leaves of fall colors encapsulated in the resin ....as far as interior spray foam it to look like rock n finish with a rock coat spray ... n dont forget to wire it up for your energy pack n some type of heat source ....but looking really awesome always enjoy your shows

Cool fish feeding segment. 👍🏼
Making umbrella over top of it cover it with plastic and then you Cedar over top of that and that'll help keep the water off the top of the Equator
Awesome show thank you for sharing looking great guys. Have a great day
I think bouncing around the idea of epoxying the whole thing on the outside with clear epoxy like a basketball court floor would be a solid plan.
This is such an amazing structure!! I would love to spend the night in it.
Great content! I love it!
I've heard the term "balls to the walls" was used in the steam engine days when the 2 balls, kind of like a governor, would spread apart while spinning.
