I use re-claimed metal from a giant spool, cut and weld it into a mega big spool which is suspended from the forest canopy to create an extremely unique off grid forest house. In this episode, I work on completing the outside of the ball structure including the cabin door, coverings, hatch, and work through possibilities for inside finishes and waterproofing.
In this episode I work on finishing up all the interior, and some shelves, lamp, and lighting to get it all ready for my overnight camp out. I also work to stabilize the ball so it doesn't make me so sea sick.

"Self-Reliance" is an 1841 essay written by American transcendentalist philosopher and essayist Ralph Waldo Emerson. It contains the most thorough statement of one of Emerson's recurrent themes: the need for each individual to avoid conformity and false consistency, and follow his own instincts and ideas. This channel will approach self reliance from a modern perspective. and will focus on various build projects using modern amenities, and tools to build a completely self reliant lifestyle.

    Suggestion to stabilize ball!:
Use a sturdy metal pipe to run the chain through that the ball is hanging from, make it snug.
The wider the diameter of the pipe the more stable it should be.
To simulate: get a beed or ball, hang from a string and put the string through a straw, when snug, the beed/ball shouldn't be able to move as the straw will hold it down.
This way you still have a truly hanging ball.
Since the pipe needs to be snug, either have a covering to prevent rain from filling the pipe or some notches at the bottom to allow drainage.
Added plus: don't have to drill holes into the ball!
P.S. You should decorate it for Christmas, garland around the posts with Christmas lights and a big bow at the top of the ball, lol.

Very comprehensive, covering different roofing materials, siding, etc.

great video as always Kevin! one thing I notice is you're making a fire with a bunch of needles on the ground and that seems really dangerous, sometimes you can't see it, but the fire will catch on the roots in the ground, and it can start a forest fire underneath which is much more dangerous than a fire that is burning above ground. Be careful out there we don't want to see your land catch on fire :)

  • @Scereyaha
    @Scereyaha Год назад +4

I think you are on the right track and what would have helped it swing instead of wobbling would have been 3-4 points at the top. Even in the absence of any side or bottom anchoring, that should solve the issue so long as the chains are spaced out enough and have equal tension. It might be simple enough to waterproof a little area at the top again than a bunch of points around the sides. Some roofing tar , or another outdoor weathering goop in a little cap/circle on it would probably do it. 3 points spaced around the existing one wouldn't even need to be anchored quite the same as the first, just well enough to stabilize it.
Actually, with all these seasonal rooms, if you added enough outdoor cooking spaces, some toilets and outdoor showers, you could eventually have a nifty little outdoor hotel, especially for 1-3 night stays.

Since the exterior is wood, you can use glue to attach brackets for rope or chain upward to the middle of the tripod poles, so no need to drill any holes at all.
And if you do need to drill, start from inside and drill outward, can't miss that way.
How much ventilation do you have in there ? In such a small, tight space it doesn't take much CO to do a guy in, maybe a small air vent directly behind the wood stove ?

In an Aquaponics set up, we feed the fish everyday between 1.5% to 3% of their total body weight. Feeding extra will just dirty your water column and lower your PH, depleting your KH and GH which I imagine is already low as being a pond it would have all sorts of organic matter ( to guess body weight of all your fish, catch one, weigh it and estimate how many other fish are in your pond then do the math)
    Love the ball.

    Suggestion to stabilize ball:
    * What if dug a buoy(ball-type) a bit down so that it touches the bottom of the ball. This could give the amought of friction that would be
needed for it to stay in place.
    * Find 2 tires and cut them in half. Make 2 brackets so that it was possible add a bracket on each end of the half-moon shape the tires would
make. Add one of the brackets to bottom of the ball. The tires would make it more stable cos it's the rubberpart that also needs to be
    moving.
    * Hammer a rod into the ground. Then make a bracket that would make it possible to mount a spring from the suspention from a car.

Orb. I understand the idea with the bottom to stop the swing but I like having it clear at the bottom so you have grass in the summertime there a ball wrapped around green grass in the summer would look neat. I was thinking of an idea of having some straps on the top racing as Louisville Slugger to send you some extension bats say 5 ft bring them down from the tree with a roll of wood roller at the end to where you can screw the Louisville Slugger in and out depending on the weather for swelling and shrinking and having that stop your swinging your seasickness.

Sooo a couple ideas for the stand. My mind wants to go straight to a tripod style stand. Possibly with legs that flip down. Maybe could adapt a camper stabilizer design.
The other idea that came to mind is a single post stand. Would have to be cemented into the ground probably but would be fitting for the sphere. Just one post holding it up out of the ground without hanging from a stand.

To stabilise the rocking ball, you could have attached a car tyre inner tube to the bottom, nearest the ground and fastened it to the ground. In that way, the ball would have only been able to rotate slightly, and return to its original position. Worth a rethink?

i started collecting large ball bearings a few years ago after breaking a bone in my hand (right, 4th metacarpal). i used them for my physical therapy as hot and cold things to hold and manipulate. the broken finger works fine now, no surgery necessary. i kept doing the therapy just because it was calming to hold a 2.5" ball then a 3". the weight along with just rolling it around... i can't describe it, you just have to try it out for a while. there's just something nice about it.
pro tip: get some "birchwood casey super blue" liquid gun blue and use that on the ball bearings you plan to handle a lot along with some plain mineral oil to coat them with. just follow the directions on the bottle. they come out almost black, really dark grey/blue-ish. the oil afterwards keeps them nice. i have one that's 7 years old used nearly everyday and is still in 99.5% perfect condition.

usually all my ideas are overthought ............. but for this one, I have a simple one find the center under neath the ball and stick a pipe straight up into the ground, then add a pipe/ sleeve through the center of the Ball only from the bottom of the ball to the top of the floor, and then keep a metal rod to put through the sleeve in the ball and anchored into the pipe in the ground. Kind of like a metal fence gate with the "slidy" rod that you pull up to move and then drop down into the sleeve in the ground to keep the gate shut!

Some ideas if you want to keep some of the wobble.
Those chains that you've placed around the edges, you could put springs on them so that you still get some rocking, but it's significantly dampened.
Another idea is that you could replace the top chain with a rigid bar that has a ball joint, so that there's no secondary oscillations. Not sure how much faster that'd wear though

Keep your single hanging point but also add 3 more connections around midway to the top, but instead of chain, make it something with just a LITTLE bit of stretch in it, like rope. This will be a "dampening" force to stop the wobble but stop it slowly instead of being a jarring dead stop. BTW, next time you do a campfire, CLEAR THE PINE NEEDLES OUT OF THERE. The way you did it is a great way to burn the whole forest down.

Love idea. Just create a cradle for the ball to sit in. Blessings.

Instead of turnbuckles, heavy springs might be a better solution. Springs would lessen shock on the anchor points while also providing stability for the globe.

Amazing videos. Try taking a barrel and put it under the ORB maybe it can be kinda like a pedestal for it 🤔.

Next month you can just pack the snow under to help with wobbles ☺️🌨️❄️

Not sure how feasible this would be but if you can add a counter weight below the ball that should add a lot of stability by lowering the center of gravity below the ball.

I love the ball, but a ring at the bottom with legs for support would eliminate the wobble. I realize it wouldn't be hanging, but would be your very own spaceship!

I have wanted an ecoflow river for some time now, and can finally afford to buy one! Ordered one, just now! I know Ecoflow is sponsoring this video, but can anyone tell me, please, if I have to use the solar panels from Ecoflow, or can I buy a cheaper one? Thanks for suggestions.

I would make a 6”-12’ high box frame or make a circular base made of steel and wood had lower the ball when you sleep and stay in it and raise it when you are away.

Add a heavy duty spring from each of your tepe poles to the ball to give if some resistance to it.
