I'm a "grown woman" at 64 years old. I LOVE pink, but didn't always. One day I wore a pink something and was amazed at how flattering the color was on me so from that point on, I loved it. No, I don't want a pink car nor a pink house, though. I do love how your pink colorway disappearing 4-patch turned out. It is so beautiful!
Thank you, Jane! I too, haven't always cared for pink (it is flattering on me, too, though not as much as red); I wonder if I'll continue to love it, or if it's a fleeting affection!😂🤷🏻♀️💗
10 pinks are good but 50 are has always been my motto! Thanks for sharing! 🩷🩷🩷🩷
😂💗 Ok that made me laugh! And I think you might be right!
🩷💅🏻👛👚🐷🍉🪸🦩🌷🌸 Another lucky friend! ☺️
Aww! Thanks, Rhonda! 😊
You did good girl! That quilt is beautiful!I'm a scrappy quilter, and I thrift most of my fabric. I'm going to have to put a monochromatic disappearing 9 on my to-do list. Thank you for sharing this quilt with us. P.S. I really enjoy that you have so much to say.
That quilt is the perfect amount of scrappy and geometric, LOVE IT! I know your dear friend is going to adore this quilt.
Thanks, Sarah! I think the geometric component appealed to me.❤️
Such a pretty quilt. Agree with you about group projects. I have been on painting courses where I have been amazed at how slow I am! Happier sewing or painting at home. (Though I do love company)
Great choice of name for this pink masterpiece! ❤ I'm working on a pink " kitty cats" quilt (pattern by cluck cluck sew) for a 3 year old at church.
Thanks, Giselle! And that kitty cats quilt is so cute! She will love it! ❤️
I watched your video on grieving, how your mother died of metastatic breast cancer, I was so moved. I too have that but it is under control right now. I too am sewing , making rag quilts (I am not exact or precise and rag quilts can hide a multitude of sins)! I am the store manager of a Value Village in Canada. It is a branch of Savers, the thrift store chain in the States and have been making my quilts of thrifted fabric from my store including men’s shirts! Thank you for your inspiring videos
Luscious beautiful scrappy quilt.
Hi Cathy, I enjoyed this video. The story behind the quilt is so enjoyable. The "Pretty In Pink" quilt is gorgeous and I know your friend will Love it. I hope you have a great holiday weekend with lots of "restful" sewing. Love Ya !!!!! ❤❤❤
Thank you, Dianne!❤️ I hope you have a happy holiday full of sewing too!
This is my favorite quilt you have made. It is BEAUTIFUL! I love the blocks with the plaid. I also am obsessed with pink. Good job!😊
Thank you, Susan! There were moments in the process where I thought, "I'm not so sure about this!" but in the end, I am pleased with it. And I mean, pink! 💗
Oh, I love the pink quilt and really like the back - it looks soft and sweet. I wish I could see the look on your former co-worker's face when she receives the quilt. Such a beautiful gift to her and a testimony to your friendship.
I wish I could see the look on her face too, MaryBeth! She will receive it in the mail this week! (we don't live/work in the same city anymore!)
Pinkalisious!!!Love love it!! It was good seeing you break out and go scrappy!!! Woot! Fantastic work Cathy!! Catch ya Friday!!
Every time I listen to your quilting, explanations, I pick up more ideas when it comes to quilting patterns. Thank you for your detailed explanations. I look forward to your next video.
Thank you so much! ❤️
Such a beautiful quilt, Cathy, and an amazing gift! I know your friend/former co-worker will love it! 🥰
Thank you, Renea! I hope she does! 🥰
I love this pink quilt! It is simply beautiful! I made a disappearing 4 patch several years ago in assorted colors for a little girl. I really like the simplicity of the block! Her mom has used it on her bed ever since I made it, so I guess it works!
Thank you, Sherry! ❤️ I like the simplicity of the block, too!
Lovely to see the finished product! It's beautiful.
I’m just finishing my first official quilt using the disappearing four patch pattern I heard about on this channel a few weeks (months?) ago. I used scraps, fat quarters, remnants, shirts, whatever I could find in my stash, in yellow and gray solids and prints. It turned out very scrappy and I absolutely love it! I too put a swath of the darker blocks from one corner to the other and fading to lightest in the other corners. This is a great pattern and I love seeing how yours turned out in pink, so pretty! I’m going to start making my sister a quilt using the disappearing nine patch pattern next. I asked her what color she wanted and she said …Pink! Can’t wait to get started 💕
I love everything about this comment, Christine! Yellow and gray---yes, please! It's one of my favorite combinations. 🤩 And using all the stuff from all the places (scraps, fat quarters, shirts, etc.) --YES, please! 😂 But seriously, love that.❤️ I'm glad you think it is a great pattern (as I do!) How exciting that you are embarking on a pink disappearing 9 patch! What fun! 💗
As I admired your pink pink pink quilt😍, my first thought was that it resembles an antique woven coverlet pattern, blown up to a huge scale. My second thought was that the individual pink squares look like gift boxes tied with ribbons, so appropriate for the gift for your friend. I'm guessing each box was filled with your fond and happy memories of her as you assembled them. I love this pattern and I'm filing it away for later as a stash buster!
Thank you, Leslie! I can see both of your "thoughts" and yes, this quilt has many memories sewn into it!❤️
Oh. That’s a beautiful quilt. Thanks so much for sharing. ❤❤❤
Thank you so much! And ps, that "Oh." was felt.❤️
Beautiful quilt! Thank you for sharing as always!❤
Pink and orange are on the top of my list! 💕 Pretty in Pink is just wonderful! Your friend will be over the moon! You’re such a generous, loving friend. This video is also beautifully done. Great job Paul! Thank you both.
Thank you, Angie! ❤️
I love your quilt❤❤❤
❤ I like that quilt, it is lovely. I enjoy making the disappearing 4 or 9 patch blocks.
💖💖💖 Well sis you totally knocked it out of the park for me! PINK LOVE 💗
This is so pretty! Thank you for sharing!
Thank you, my friend! I thought you might have a soft spot for this one---now you need to make one too!❤️
@@TheCatBirdQuilts I have one on the long arm ready to quilt! It is what I am calling “Scrappy Pink” and I LOVE it! Not sure how I will be able to show it but I will figure out a way.
This turned out beautiful! I'm sure your friend will be touched and feel loved by your friendship! 🥰🥰
I have lots of pink and made a pink nine patch quilt for my great granddaughter. Still have lots of pink left over 😃
I think it multiplies behind our backs! 😉
Thank you so much for another excellent video. Yes, quilting is slow, thank you for reminding me. Your pink quilt is truly delightful. 🌸
Lovely story!❤ Such a gorgeous quilt. Xx
Thank you, Kylie! ❤️
I LOVE the Pretty in Pink quilt! It is beautiful and inspiring. Such a simple block to make but stunning in the one color way. Thanks for sharing. P.S. Pretty in Pink was a favorite movie for me. 😊
Thank you, Lori! Pretty in Pink was a favorite of mine, too. 💗
Wow, I love your pink quilt. Your friend is truly blessed in you and your gift. Anyway, I've been watching you for a while, and didn't realize you are in Bham, AL. Our son lives in Sterrett (almost to Chelsea) just off the 280. We've driven all over that area. Maybe we've driven right by your house LOL. At any rate, right now I'm quilting through my scraps, making various patterns. I have 4 tops completed and thinking about the backs. Many of them I am using mens cotton dress shirts for background pieces. Saved me so much $$. Thanks for your inspiration!
What a small world! Yes, Sterrett isn't too far from me although I'm much closer to Birmingham proper. 🤓 Thank you for your kind words! I need to be quilting through my scraps, but am trying to work through my shirts, first! 😂
Oh, yes, another super-fun quilt story with your usual enthusiastic (dare I say ebullient) style. Love it so much!
Thank you so much! ❤️
Pretty in Pink is the perfect name for this quilt!! It's a beautiful quilt and your friend is going to love it!!
I want to do the Wooly Petals Ghost Party quilt-a-long, but I just know I'll fall behind!
I love that quilt...I'd fall behind if I did it for sure! And thank you, for the kind words about my quilt! ❤️
This is just soooo lovely!!! 💖🫶🏻👏🏻
Thanks, Charity! ❤️
I love a riot of colors together but PINK in this pattern is simply gorgeous!!! Loved the whole story about how this pretty quilt came together. I had to smile when you described how you reacted with each of
your pink blocks..."Oh I love that!" Funny, I do that too. So true...adding in those zinger fabrics made a total "celebration of pink". A feminine pink quilt with curves...oh yes!❤
Thank you, Linda!❤️ And I'm glad I'm not the only one who makes a block and then is delighted by it, and then another, and another! 😊
Wowza! It’s amazing how beautiful this looks fully executed with backing, quilting and binding. It is a wonderful work of art that is truly priceless. 🩷💕🩷💕🩷💕🩷
Love it! And love hearing your stories. You are an inspiration to many people and to me. Thanks so much
Thank you so much, Julie! ❤️
So very pretty! Your friend will love it!!
Once again you have knocked it out of the park! You’re friend is very lucky to receive such a thoughtful gift. ❤
Thank you so much, Veronica!
Oh goodness, I just re read this. I meant your, dang phone. Lol
A beautiful quilt!!!
💖Such a pretty pink “scrapy” quilt! Love that so many of your quilts end up as gifts. Nothing better than a quilty hug for someone we love. We can only use so many quilts ourselves, and much of the joy of “creating” comes from sharing our creations. Love it!
Thank you, Shannon! ❤️ I think it helps (for me) to have someone in mind to gift it to---I'm way more inclined to choose pretty fabrics and curate a pleasing colorway that way!
So pretty and perfect timing for me! I'm currently cutting a VERY pink quilt, all Ruby Star mixed with their low volumes in a checkerboard pattern. I was worried it might not work out how I saw it in my head. If it turns out half as pretty as your quilt, I'll be thrilled!
Your friend will cherish this quilt, as I'm sure she cherishes your friendship 💕💓
Thank you, Indecisive! I'm sure your pink quilt will be amazing!
Your quilt turned beautiful. I have never tried sewing with thrifted shirts. You have given me an idea.
Thank you, Christine! ❤️ Hooray---I love sparking ideas! (or being here when they happen!)
Pink Glory🎉🎉🎉My Kaffe quilt has been given to Birthday friend and is a hit 😊 l will do a pillow with the leftovers. That quilt kicked my B... from start to finish but really is glorious !! Have a great long weekend .
Thank you, Giselle! "Pink Glory" indeed! So glad your Kaffe quilt is done and was well-received (of course it was!) It's weird to think that those "hard ones" can still come together and be beautiful in the end! A happy Labor Day weekend to you as well!
It’s beautiful! Your friend is so lucky to have you.
Thank you, Pamela!
Another wonderful quilt! sigh......
Thank you! But Johanna, why the sigh?
@@TheCatBirdQuilts Because so many of your quilts inspire me ....but, alas, there is not enough time in the day to make all of the quilts I love!!
Gorgeous quilt!! I just LOVE starting my weekend with your videos! You are so inspiring & I learn so much.
My goodness! Thank you, Tiffany! ❤️
Wow. Wonderful. What an extravaganza of pink. The colours are lovely, the pattern is perfect, and the backstory is so sweet.
Do you keep a quilt journal? I suppose this channel is a modern quilt journal. ❤ from 🇨🇦 .
Thank you, Diane! No, not a paper one...but you're right! My channel is my quilt journal!
I love pink! And don't men look handsome in the perfect shade of pink button down.
As summer draws to a close: I look at my summer linen and notice the makings of a quilt in my dusty grey purple pants and greyed pale purple linen shirts. All were worn frequently in pro kitchens, with odd minor stains. I am psyched. These items have been loved and worn frequently for 10 years, and replacements wait in the wings. 😊
Thank you
Beautiful! Another great video.
I can't think of a more deserving recipient of a quilt that has had time, effort & love put into it than a friend who has given us more than a thank you could ever convey.
You are a good friend. x❤x
Thank you, Sue!
Cathy, I heard you use the word "lagniappe". This Yankee Texas-transplant first heard the word when antiquing in Louisianna and had to ask what it meant. I wonder how many of your viewers know it. It's such a fun word.
As to pink, I suffer from an aversion. I had to purchase a bright pink FQ for a paper-pieced design (still waiting for its turn in the queue). When the cashier asked how I felt about it my response was a surprisingly honest "Terrified." As I've become a more experienced quilter, I now understand that there are no ugly colors and they can all be used, many in surprising ways. I recently finished a BOM that brashly paired a saturated rust with fuchsia and it is gorgeous.
I learned "lagniappe" from a native Louisianan! I have never really cared for pink, so it was such a surprise to me when I discovered that I suddenly loved it! (although I suspect it may be short-lived. We'll see! 😂)
Gorgeous pink quilt! 💗 💕🩷
That quilt is so pretty! She is going to love it!
This is a beautiful quilt and I love all the pink fabrics! Pink has been my favorite color for many years but I have not seen very many mostly pink quilts. The neutrals keep it from looking "Pepto Bismol" pink. ( hope that is spelled correctly)
Thank you, Gail! Yes, I worried that it would be TOO pink---like Pepto Bismol, or Barbie land, so I appreciate your comment so much! 😊
I made a disappearing 4 patch quilt for my nephew but it was red/black and the blocks were 20x20.
I’m a Pink Woman! Love scrappy! My Granny gave me as a girl a scrappy log cabin with her dresses and other thrifted fabric from her daily life. Your quilt is stunning! I love the phrase Quilt With Me Thanks, Kathy 😊
Thank you, Roberta! ❤️
I love this scrappy quilt! Everything about it! Just yummy! You are making me rethink my ambivalence about the Diss-4. Going monochromatic pulls it all together. Good on you, girl!👏
Aww! Thank you, Evelyn! I didn't really think I was doing something special by going monochromatic, but I was happy with the result!
Enjoyed your story of “pretty in pink”! Love the quilt. You are so talented and know what you want!
Thank you, Debbie!
Beautiful quilt - it is definitely Pretty in Pink - great melding of colors, backing, quilting!! Lovely
Thank you, Sonja!
Always interesting to hear about your process and the decisions you make along the way. Lovely quilt!
Yay!
Lovely quilt and a great story. Thank you. Have a good weekend.
Thank you, Lynn! ❤️
Adorable, love it. Thanks, again!
It is beautiful I know someone who would love this
Thank you, Debee! Will you make it for your "someone who would love this?" or is that someone you?
@@TheCatBirdQuilts My 21-year old daughter would love if I made with minky on the back, might just do that 😉💖
Wow! What a beauty🥰🥰
Thank you, Julie! ❤️
I love it! 🥰
I had a similar wake up call about pink a couple of decades ago 😂 it’s a fabulous color!
Thanks, Dawn!❤️ And where have I been with pink?!?
@@TheCatBirdQuilts 😂
All the quilts are so fabulous! Sherry, I know your graduate will love the lavender hearts. I know I do.
Very joyful quilt!! Love all your choices🩷
Thank you, Debbie! 😊 I think "joyful" is the right word, too!❤️
Wonderful, thanks from Germany ❤
Thank you!
Oh Cathy I love the quilt ! I love love pink❤ thank you for the inspiration🙏🙏😂
Thanks, Neva!
Beautiful in pink. Thank you from Pennsylvania.
I am, again, inspired to make a D4P with some Christmas prints I have had for a long time! Thanks!
Oh yay, Garnetta! ❤️ I think you'll enjoy this one!
That is a GREAT idea! I also have a bunch of Christmas fabrics that will be great in this pattern.
Beautiful quilt ,and great story. Hugs from tampa!
My niece just turned 19; and her favorite color is pink.
This is a fun one to make---just sayin'! 😘
I love it! I have purple quilt percolating in my mind. This pattern is a possibility. TFS!
You're welcome!
I LOVE this quilt!
I love pink!
Oh! I have an idea of a fabric source for you! As a pharmacist, you probably get your lab coats replaced after awhile. Maybe you could use them for your quilts!
Lorrie, I have thought about it, but my previous labcoats were a cotton/poly blend (boo!) My current ones are 100% cotton, but very thick fabric (and probably won't wear out any time soon!)
@@TheCatBirdQuilts darn. I thought I had a good idea. As you can tell, I do not wear lab coats!
Happy Friday from Chattanooga. 🌝
Thank you, Sue! Happy Friday and I hope you have a great weekend!
Oh my gosh, Pink has been my favorite color since I was a child and it was so difficult growing up because my Mother's favorite colors were Yellow, Orange, Green, Brown. Yuck!!! The worst colors in the world I would think. and as mother's we tend to buy our children clothing in our favorite colors. GAG!!!! I was doomed. I'm fainting on the floor, My mother had a little darker complection than me and green eyes and black hair. I am very fair, blue eyes and Alburn hair. I can remember her buying me an Orange mini skirt and yello and orange blouse. I loved Pink, purple, lilic all pastles or gem stones. I am now 72. My poor daughter had everything Pink!! I still have everything pink, My mouse for my computer is pink, my Stanley cup my husband bought me is Hot Pink, Nearly all my shirts are Pink (different shades) I want my hair pink. My husband put his foot down and said NO! (My alburn hair hangs to my waist. My little white Schnauzer has a hot pink heart on her left hip. Life is still good at 72!
Love love this quilt! Pink is one of my guilty pleasures 💗
P.S. loved that you kept it Southern by using the word lagniappe. 😉
I’m a 52 yr old bloke and I lurve pink ! Kathy I wish you’d said how big your squares were when you started and the size of your beautiful quilt x I’m going to have to raid my stash and get all my pinks together
@@Scottiedad Gavin, I forgot that you love pink-I love that about you! (And that reminds me of my grandfather who loved pink) ❤️
The individual squares are 5”…the “disappearing part” is 1” and after all the seams, the finished block is 8.5”
Go start pulling your pinks, my friend!!
❤❤❤❤❤
That's beautiful. Of course, I just happen to be wearing a pink shirt right now. Hmmm...should I cut it onto squares? 😊💕
I have had that very thought of shirts that I own---the question then becomes, "Which way do I value it more, as wardrobe, or fabric for quilting?!" 😂🤓
@@TheCatBirdQuilts birds of a feather. ❤️
Pretty in Pink is lovely. Not having any success finding Lea Louis four at a time four patches. Could someone share that link?
ruclips.net/video/hXmh5RaUs8Y/видео.htmlsi=pyJyXQRBTsMLHxKM
(Tutorial for 4-at-a-time 4 patch block starts at 2:50)
Yeah!
At some point, could you explain the disappearing nine patch, or where I might find a pattern? I’m a”newbie” to quilting!
There is a link to a wonderful tutorial by Material Girl Quilts in the description box; also, here is a video where I extol the virtues of the disappearing 4 patch and show it up close:
ruclips.net/video/VahMjbfGjdQ/видео.htmlsi=ChLBqFxkqQIqVt6w
Is that couch comfy? It does not look very comfortable to me. I have a horrible back so I sit in a recliner chair. I just was curious.
LOL! If I sit in it properly, it's moderately comfy. Otherwise, not very! (and I have terrible posture and slump constantly, so I'm always trying to reposition to get myself "right" on it!)
♥️♥️♥️♥️
Love the quilt! What size squares did you use to make the four patches? I like the scale of the block sizes.
I liked the scale of this block too---it starts with 5" squares!
I am an "everything but the kitchen sink" kind of quilter. I compare it to a bed of flowers, how can you dislike the flowers just because their colors aren't similar. Give me all of the colors!
Your quilt is lovely. What size is it? Could your recent obsession with pink be a result of Baby Girl #2 going away to college?
Thank you, Gina! It is 64" X 64" As for Baby girl #2 going off to school...perhaps? Although she has disdain for pink and loves black, so I don't associate that color with her (at least consciously!)
Beautiful I want to do that quilt
Do it! (It was so fun!)❤️
Beautiful, BEAUTIFUL quilt! Every aspect is just… chef’s kiss! But please stop chopping my onions RE: work friends, sniff. I can’t...🥹… so very important. 🩷
Cassie, I thought long and hard before we started the video, because if I were to talk much at all about both the difficulty of that workplace, or the singular support of my friend, I would have sobbed my eyes out! So. Very. Important.
And thank you for the kind words. (and your kind heart.)❤️
@@TheCatBirdQuilts I’ll spare you my long story, too, but indeed I have one.
The family fortune teller in Korea (another long story) said I always have people behind the scenes protecting or promoting me, and you know what, it’s thankfully true.
