    • @BoxOfficeJoe
      @BoxOfficeJoe  9 дней назад

      I may post it in more detail sometime, @arielsaravia4228, but for now, here's an overview:
      BOMB: 0 - 1 Budget to box office ratio
      FLOP: 1 - 1.5 Budget to box office ratio
      AVERAGE: 1.5 - 2x
      SEMI HIT: 2 - 2.5x
      HIT: 2.5 - 5x
      BREAKOUT HIT: 5+
      BLOCKBUSTER: 3+ and among the highest-grossing movies of the decade
      ALL-TIME TITAN: among the 50 highest-grossing movies of the decade
      If you think I'm being a bit harsh with this, please keep in mind that box office earnings are split between the studio and the cinemas, so a movie has to earn at least 2x its budget just to break even. Also, this recipe is a work in progress, I'm trying to finetune it.

    How can you call so many movies that made their money back "flops"? And you call movies that made double their budgets "bland". I doubt the investors thought that doubling their investments was "bland"! When you just listed the dollar amounts and let us determine for ourselves if the movies were hits or not, it was interesting. This isn't interesting. 🤨

    • @BoxOfficeJoe
      @BoxOfficeJoe  Месяц назад +12

      Thank you for bringing this up, @latebloomerabroad! A movie actually needs to earn at least twice its budget to break even, as box office revenue is shared between the studio and cinemas. My labels reflect this.

      The issue is distribution. The company has to split revenue with the those that distribute and show the film. If a film’s box office matches its budget then generally speaking that means they lost money.

    Nick Cage can act i think his best Cameron Po in Con-Air 1996 Seriously and Maybe Kiss of D 1995 id say the only The reason why he got a leg up in the acting Entertainment industry is because of Famous Auntie Thalia Shire (Adrian from Rocky Series Rocky's Wife) and her Brother Nicholas Cage's Unc Francis Ford Coppola! So there you have it! Oh Forgot To mention tremendously hilarious as the Country Bumpkin Who falls for Holly Hunter's police Officer Character try to adopt a Child in 1987 classic Raising Arizona!

      @BoxOfficeJoe  10 дней назад

      If you noticed this, it means you've watched quite a few of my other videos. Thank you for that @Gareat, I really appreciate it. As for Nicolas, he just had some bad luck. You know, I got loads of comments urging me to update my labeling strategy to reflect that movies need to make at least double their budget just to break even (box office earning are split between cinemas and the studio). I decided to make the update because that's the realistic approach. And guess who came next when I made this decision? Poor old Nick-someone I respect for his earlier work, and I think even some of his newer movies are actually good.

  • @Jayjay1lm
    @Jayjay1lm 20 дней назад +1

    This is super confusing to how you graded many others. You got blend or luckluster for some that made over $50/100m profit but other actors you have breakeven or hits. I know you tried to explain but keep it consistent with how you graded others please. Because no way something that make $100m profit is a flop.

    • @BoxOfficeJoe
      @BoxOfficeJoe  20 дней назад +1

      Thank you for bringing this up, @Jayjay1lm! Actually, my labeling was quite off in my older videos, as it didn’t reflect the reality that box office earnings are split between studios and cinemas. A movie has to make at least double its budget just to break even, not to mention marketing costs, which are rarely included in the budget. I owe everyone an apology for this confusing update, but rest assured, this new direction is the realistic one. Bear with me as I'm fine-tuning my content. 😉

    • @Jayjay1lm
      @Jayjay1lm 18 дней назад +1

      @ no it’s fine thank you for clearing that up for us. I love watching your videos and I wasn’t trying to criticise just wanted to understand why things were different but thank you for explaining it as I have a understanding of how things work as I myself didn’t know films had to double their box office to break even. I’ve just finished watching your Eddie Murphy one 👌🏾👌🏾

      Thank you, @Jayjay1lm! I’m glad to hear you love my content. However, I haven’t covered Eddie Murphy yet, so you probably watched a competitor. Looks like my idea started a whole new niche on RUclips.
