In the 1955 movie TARANTULA Clint had a small part as a fighter pilot trying to dispose of a largely magnified spider.
Have you done a Michael Caine one yet?
Tom Cruise. Tankyou
It’s just disgusting to see how much they make should be against the law
Interesting proposition, @bprince1447, but let's not forget that it's us, the people, who give them these insane salaries. Our attention is their currency.
Wow, never knew Pacino had so many flops.
It's weird for sure @natureboy1313, but flops couldn't hurt him thanks to his iconic roles in movies like Godfather and Scarface and his powerful performances in other hits. His talent, strong presence, and cultural impact kept him in the game and made him a legend regardless of financial stumbles. By the way his movies continue generating revenue after their theatrical run-through home media, streaming, and other channels, so flops may become hits overtime.
matt damon or brad pitt please.
Great picks @virgilio3719! Added to the queue! Stay tuned.
Leo
fun fact: Clint Eastwood had a small part in the movie THE BLOB with Steve McQueen, but I don't know if he got in the credits.
I wonder how much he got for his TV appearance on Mr Ed the talking horse ?
Interesting question @saifonlawrence2044! I looked this up for you. His appearance on Mr. Ed, the talking horse sitcom, came early in his career, well before he became a major Hollywood star. He received the standard guest star rate for CBS TV shows in the early 1960s, which was around $600 to $800.
@@BoxOfficeJoe Thanks Joe
Do George Lucas
Interesting pick @hanshalsy1023! I'm wondering about the approach: Every movie he directed or every movie he produced?
I've seen every Arnold movie except Junior. I just could not wrap my head around the concept.
It's definitely a weird one, @eddier8576. I'm not a big fan of Junior, but it has its moments.
Like your vids. Do a few actresses. Streisand, Julia Roberts, Kate Blanchett
It's great to hear you enjoy my work, @Gil1959! You're absolutely right-I should dive into the finances of female stardom as well, and that's exactly what I'll do.
Clooney was probably the last actor to be groomed for stardom by the once-dominant studio system. He hit a bump in the road reputation-wise with Batman & Robin but recovered fairly quickly with The Perfect Storm, which added a new phrase to the English language, and hasn't burned out yet. Another example of persistence and good script choices.
What about Spotswood?
Thank you for bringing this up, @zoonabar. The Efficiency Expert, also known as Spotswood, is one of his lesser-known overseas films, which is why it's not included in the video. However, I did some research for you, and his paycheck was roughly $200k. 😉
Marlon Brando
A retro pick @MihaiRiz1! I'll jump on this one right away.
Eastwood never made a movie that lost money. Check it. Lost money.
Several of his flops lost money. But he always got paid top dollar.
That's mostly true, @JeffTullock-yx1hd! Even if a movie flops at the box office, there's a good chance it will recover after its theatrical run-through home media, streaming, and other channels. That's usually the case with Clint's flops, anyway.
Benicio Del Toro 🙂
Great pick @petedennis2802! I put him on my radar 😉
How do you call Apocalypse Now only a super hit as opposed to a Block Buster or All Time Titan????
Great question, @patrickbrinkmeier2691! The labels I use in my videos are based solely on a movie's financial performance. Apocalypse Now is a classic and a masterpiece, but in terms of box office, it didn't reach 'All-Time Titan' status. Sometimes, money doesn't reflect the quality of a movie at all.
Also note, that taxes, legal fees, agents percentages, living costs, etc. take about 60% of an actor's earnings. And actor paid $10 million is lucky to keep about half of the money.
Great insights @LaurenceDay-d2p! It's true, that I oversimplify these figures and the profitability in my videos, but that's because I don't want to overwhelm people with to many details. By the way, movies continue generating revenue after their theatrical run-through home media, streaming, and other channels. These additional earnings usually follow the box office trend (Hit or Flop) and can reinforce or even improve the labels I give these movies in my video.
Keep in mind that of the box office gross, theaters keep about 50 percent. A picture that costs $50,000,000 to produce adds another $50 million for advertising and distribution costs. A picture that costs $50 million has to sell $200 million worth of tickets just to break even. Most of Pacino's pix have actually lost money. His overblown salary didn't help.
Most of these just show what he was paid up front, but he contracted for a percentage of box office receipts, so he actually made far more.
That's correct, @marktwain2053! This was my first video on the channel, so I was still figuring out how to present the figures and chose to exclude backend deals in most cases, which made the video slightly confusing. However, I learned from this and included all backend deals in my later videos. I'm also considering remaking this one...
Morgan Freeman - Michael Caine
Great picks @wolfie5! Added to the work queue. Stay tuned!
@@BoxOfficeJoe Awesome :)

50 grand For Toy Story. Ok Mate 😂😂😂
Incredible figure, but it's correct, I double checked it, @JaneGalvin! It was a pretty early Pixar project, and no one knew it would become such a massive hit. At the time, it was just a voiceover gig, and animation movies weren’t pulling in the huge salaries they do now. Of course, the success of Toy Story changed all that for future films!
Saving Private Ryan Budget$67Mil Hanks $40 More than half the budget went to this m0r0n who is too rich to take a joke
Enjoying these 😊
Glad to hear that @Martin.C.777! Thank you! 😉
How can an actor's salary be more than the film's budget? I noticed several films of Eastwood where his salary was 2 to 3 times higher than the film's total budget.
Great question, @michaelmiller6579! This phenomenon is called a 'backend deal,' which means the actor receives a portion of the film’s long-term earnings in addition to their upfront salary. These earnings can come from box office revenue, streaming, DVD, and Blu-ray sales, among other sources. Such deals can significantly boost the actor's total earnings, sometimes exceeding the film's entire budget.
@@BoxOfficeJoe Ok, that makes sense. Thank you.
When you say budget $10M and box office $10M as break even it’s not really as they are gross figures for box office. By the time everyone is paid expenses net figure is something like 5M. So it’s really a flop or a loss
That's correct, @fredsalfa, and thank you for pointing that out! However, few people are aware of this. I chose this simplified approach because movies continue to generate revenue even after their theatrical run through home media sales, streaming platforms, and other channels. These additional earnings usually reflect the box office trend (Hit or Flop) and solidify the labels I give these movies in my video, or even improve them.
That is mind blowing
I've always wondered how they actually get paid. Is it a cashier's check for $20million, or an EFT? I guess there are banks accustomed to this level of deposits.
It's all in 20's.
Great question, @sstrick500. They typically get paid through simple bank transfers, just like regular jobs. For huge sums, payments might come in installments, especially for backend deals.
1:54 Despite catching AIDS just for the movie I can’t believe they paid him so little for Philadelphia
That was just on-screen AIDS only @noelht1 😉 By the way, at the time, it was considered a risky project tackling a sensitive subject. Hanks took a pay cut because he believed in the film and its message, plus his career wasn’t quite as huge as it became later. It paid off, though, since it won him an Oscar!
If the budget is 55M and box office is 1.1B in whose pocket the difference goes?
The investors who took a chance on the movie
Good question @aijokker! Most of that difference goes to the studio, but they also split it with theaters, distributors, and anyone with a cut of the backend profits (actors, directors, etc.) -so it gets spread around quite a bit!
So many flops, so many I did not see
Interesting stuff. Not a fan of the music.
I'm glad you like the content, @aaronlisitza2324! As for the music, we all have different tastes, but I'll experiment with different styles going forward-let's see how the audience reacts 😉
Road to Perdition is just a gem of a movie.
Agreed @wreckim! It's great to see Hanks in a totally different role as a badass hitman in a dark, emotional story.
@@BoxOfficeJoe Paul Newman's last film too. And if you've seen HUD, then you see those years expanded through time...and HUD is also another gem. 2c. Great post btw.
I don't understand the Castaway Budget.
Great question, @_garebear! The film was costly to produce as they filmed in remote spots, paused for months so Hanks could lose weight, and had intricate plane crash scenes requiring expensive visual effects. Plus, Hanks' salary and the top-notch crew didn’t come cheap!
He might be broke !
All his earnings won’t cure his disease.
With that kind of money and protected by the Dems! He can have as many little girls and boys that he wants then go hide in Greece!,
You shouldn’t celebrate and idolize a pedo not a good look for your channel.
Looking at his paychecks, it looks like they know ahead of time whether the film will flop or not.
Good observation, @Angry_Old_Man_In_Pain! They can certainly make educated guesses, as this is their profession. However, the paychecks shown in this video include not just his upfront salary, but also any additional earnings from backend deals-meaning if the movie does well, he earns a lot more.
I don't watch any movies these days but I remember in that grizzley movie Hopkins said something that sticks with me today. It was "what one man can do, another man can do". He was talking about spearing the grizzley but this applies to a lot of things in everyday life.
This is deep, @mikenagy938! I'll definitely remember this going forward in life. Thank you!
bullllllllllshit
He was paid in children
Can you prove it?🤬He is one the best modern actors alive. Look at what he went through in Castaway.
@@oldgoat50cast away wasn’t real bro it was a movie. And the kids who have come forward prove it.

Port Talbot boy done good, good for him 👍
Magic is my favorite movie from this guy. Haven't really seen but a handful of his movies because of the subject matter of his movies.
Agreed, @XCambodianBuddha. Magic is a one-of-a-kind movie thanks to Hopkins. He absolutely nails the creepy ventriloquist vibe, and the psychological tension between him and his dummy is so intense, it's impossible to look away!
Transformers wasn't a mega-hit just because he was in it. That's for sure.
Hey TH. Shove every dollar.
It's a disgrace what some people are paid to play make-believe.
That may be true, @craigster1234, but let’s not forget that it’s us, the people, who give them these immense paychecks. Our attention is their currency.
Come on man, like you'd turn it down...
Maybe so, but they’re laughing all the way to the bank!!
See Toy Story? $50k. The back end of that deal…….huge % of the Box Office. He laughed louder than hell on that one. Tom Cruise has had a few back end deals and he bought a $70m private jet! I would pretend to be OJ Simpson for that!!

I’d like to see him struggle with that immense character Sir Keir. He’s already got the makings of that face. No make up required.
