Also most led panels can be run on cheap L type batteries that makes them easy to use on location away from plug sockets, and it's worth mentioning that led panels dont need noisy fans to cool them that can ruin your audio track, and they are much slimmer, so take up much less space in smaller rooms.
Youtubing / Filmmaking is hard, and requires education in many, many areas. My tip to anyone wondering *how* to fix voice sound levels properly.. Adobe Audition -> "Normalize Loudness" to -16 LUFs" -> if you still need help, watch some videos by Curtis Judd. It's not just "normalize" but a process to normalize the sound of the loudness dynamically based on the ongoing levels of the audio clip being processed.

I agree with you in general, but there are some advantages with soft led light, they are cheap, compact and light. So e.g. you what to film something in a car interieur or in a small space. It is certainly not a good idear to only invest in soft lighting, but one 100$ light may not be the worst start. With hard light there is allwais a compromise of buy vs rent. If you buy hard lights, you go with a 120D, but if you whant to light a big scene, then it is probably the best to just rent a view big HMI lights.
Your information and presentation ist great. There is no need to play this (loud) background music. If I go to a coaching seminar and the coach would press play on a music player just before he starts talking the message would be: "Hey I got nothing to tell. I need some music to prevent the people from falling asleep." People trying to explain important content talk in silence ... slow ... with a lot of space so that the listener will concentrate and think. This is my "constructive hint". Don't get my wrong: Your message and information is great and there is alot of wortk going into your videos.
Calling a panel that is barely larger than a piece of copy paper a "soft source" is rather misleading. Is it softer than a COB "point" light source? Yes. By a significant amount? Depends on how you use it, but mostly, not by much. So if you use a panel, you are generally getting a mostly hard light source. The real difference is that the COB point light is designed as part of a larger light modifying system, usually using a Bowen's mount. And thus this light is going to be easier to SOFTEN. Yes, even easier than the already somewhat softer panel light. (Which can also be softened as well, but not as easily or efficiently).

I think you missed the point of the video. Hard, brighter sources are MUCH more versatile on any set, and is what makes up a VAST majority of lighting. It can be shaped, modified (for much cheaper, as even a sheet, shower curtain, or piece of foam can work)

I'm in agreement with you! Years ago, I recall a book that discussed cinematic lighting. One of the DP's featured in the book said, " I prefer using lights that need to be diffused with 3/4-inch plywood." Of course, he felt--like you--that there were many more ways to model or diffuse a big (12K please) light source than the other way around. Great video!
althoug will loose brightness by difusing, whereas with the pannels you don't need to defuse. This way a 60W pannel is just as bright as a difussed 200W chip.
Yes but the diffusion needed to flatten that out (frosted glass) will cut out less light than the (usually thick double layer canvas) difussion for a single chip. Besides, for run and gun the 300 shadows won't be that noticeable

You can't compare even the Godox models prices with led panels... You can buy 3 led panels in the price of godox sl60 .. I need a very uniform panel light, where the individual LEDs can not be distinguished. The Yongnuo YN300 Air looked promising, until I noticed that I could easily distinguish the LEDs. (it's about the size I need, though). Any recommendations?

Is it true though that you can't get a hard light our of a soft source? What if, for example, you create a snoot and put it in front of the led panel? Then, keeping the same distance from the subject, you now have a much smaller area where the light is coming from, hence, a harder light.
Great video man. I do however have my finger on the buy button for a edge lit soft light as i want to keep the background dark and i'm working in a small space. Looking at a viltrox 300t or 500t as opposed to the elgato keylight. Can you think of a good setup for a desk mountable keylight that won't light up to much of the background? I'm guessing i need some kind of barn doors for that but i really like the circular style of the viltrox. Sorry for all the questions, Great Video man. Subbed :)

Not only do the levels matter but you're supposed to punch a hole in the music tracks EQ to that it's not competing with voice frequencies.

The led is made to run by Battery.. and you compare one that can run at 1500w.. not equal right at the start...

An undifussed led pannel is never as soft as a difussed chip, because you get 300 different shadows from the 300 different lightbulbs.
