  • There are 4 parasympathetic ganglia in the head (on each side), and the otic ganglion is one of them. What I really want to do is explain how the glossopharyngeal nerve (CN IX) innervates the parotid gland. Let's try.
We'll also come across the trigeminal nerve (CN V), the facial nerve (CN VII), the mandibular branch of the trigeminal nerve, and various other nearby goodies.

im so glad i found your videos, they've been really helpful to me. i normally have trouble orienting to things in class but the way you teach helps immensely. the perspective that you give on your videos really opens my mind to other relatable things and gets me thinking, rather than just learning names and knowing the same lines from texts blandly. thank you so much. your passion inspires many young students, including me!

From an anatomic point of view, the middle ear really is a sort of "extension" of the pharynx, isn't it? That's why the glossopharyngeal nerve gives it its sensory innervation, and why the Eustachian tube is called the pharyngotympanic tube.

So it means in Frey syndrome, a person can start to sweat when they see food instead salivating right?
