- In this Signal Colors: Primer - I'm taking my first look at the Universal Audio Galaxy '74 Tape Echo & Reverb - an honest recreation of the 70's style tape echo we all know and love: the Roland Space Echo. Hang out while I give this this beauty of a pedal a try with the Teenage Engineering OP-1 Field.

Wonderful!! Happy to see a pedal I can easily get in Europe. Great video!
Well, now I need that pedal.
Haha it's pretty legit! If you're in the market for a stereo delay it's gotta be high on the list for sure. Thanks for checking out the vid! =)
@@Duskmos I am indeed, sir. Thank you for all the information, you have a new subscriber 🖤
@OneMorningSongs Welcome to the crew! 🙌
First look? These came out in April of 2023. Happy to see it getting more attention with synths though. I've tried just about every Space Echo emulating pedal and this is by far my favorite.
First look for my man Duskmos
Totally. I mean my first look haha. My Primer series is for people getting their first looks at the pedals too. But yeah maybe that's a tad misleading? Anyway I agree, I loved it and I think I'll probably be buying my own, even though I have a lot of great delays but this one just nails it. Plus the build on these are great. Thanks for your comment!
@ Thanks for your video!
Can't stand those overpriced plastic things. On the other hand, nice UA product.
You talking about the OP-1? The body of it is aluminum and quite dense, and it feels way more premium than you'd imagine. Have you honestly checked one out in person? I feel like most people would change their tune once they do.
Yes, these full sized UA pedals are insane quality - and my experiences with them so far are great (I have a few more I'm hoping to check out, so far just this and the MAX). To me they feel like such a win on both build and sound, though we knew they'd do great with the sound lol.
@Duskmos yes, I tried a few TE products and I can't really digest them. In general, I don't like the fashion of having synths and such being made into toys. Btw I hope you didn't take my moaning personally, of course, nothing to do with you 😊 cheers
@@donniecatalano Not at all! I'm just an advocate for people trying things out before they rush to judge (in case that was you haha, clearly not). I mean that on both ends of the spectrum too, like jumping on hype trains is just as silly ("hate trains"? haha) and I feel like TE gets a lot of hate from people because of so many reasons. I think it's a much more serious tool than people give it credit for. I wonder if people would feel the same way if you had to plug it in and it had full size keys? People don't seem to mind paying $2k for large format synths which also have plastic keys haha. I'm glad there are so many options out there. The OP-1 works out amazingly for doing demos because it actually (mostly) fits on screen and has a good sound and easy looping ability - all really useful things for my use case. Anyway, not trying to convert you haha. I'm glad not everyone likes the same things, that way we can try all kinds of new approaches to gear and brands keep making cool stuff. ✌
@Duskmos thank you for taking the time to reply to me with such a nice answer, we come from different backgrounds and have different tastes... I will gladly keep my full sized keyboards and rack synths, even if they are bulky and a bit ugly in design 😊 have a nice weekend sir.
@donniecatalano No problem! I'm currently trying to make space for my Oberheim DX - that's also a lot of bulk for a few drum samples haha 😅 Have a good one!
Is it crazy that I think this thing sounds generic? Admittedly, I’m turned off by the design of their pedals and audio interface, they’re slick but in a gross early 00s kind of way but people always seem to like their products. I don’t know… I’m still not fucking with them. Having said all that, I certainly wouldn’t say they make a bad product, but it’s not doing anything for me.
Haha oh man, I see where you're coming from but I'm a fan. TBH I think a lot of it comes down to the build quality of it all. I've have an Apollo Twin forever and it's been rock solid, and I love the big knob interface and all that. This line of pedals are all super super solid chunks too haha. Now, as far as this sounding generic, I think I can agree that it doesn't exactly sound "special" but I think it nails what it sets out to do. I mostly like it for the way it handles feedback oscillations and the build quality, which makes me kinda want one for that alone but I have so many great stereo delays that it would be super hard to justify.
