Unboxing Hobby Tutorials and Instructions. First Look Airbrushing Battle Reports. Rob Baer Kenny Boucher warahmmer 40k
I've never been one of those guys that gets super picky about fit and finish with wargaming models, but if I paid 2 thousand US dollars for a model kit that had fitment issues like the gun gaps at 22:29, I'd throw a huge damn fit.
Exactly, I'm not paying 2 thousand dollars for something made of cheap shitty resin that cost games workshop 8 dollars to make
I’d be fucking furious. These things cost a fortune. Should’ve have to deal with this shit ourselves. I’d be deliberately pissy and demand FW to send me one that actually fits
That's one reason why I got into 3d printing. I made my own for a fraction of the cost including the printer itself if you figure that into things. I didn't have the warping that happened with the FW model.
And for the cost of a few kilos of pla, I can have another one!
@@hotgamerboy6240 I want professional actors in 40k costumes delivering the thing and reading the instructions to me for that kind of money lol.
@@MidwestTractionModeler very soon i will be starting mine but will be printing with resin. Just need to do the arduous slog of supporting all the pieces.
people not local to manufacture need to remember that resin like this is sensitive to heat and is usually shipped in non climate controlled shipping crates by boat that get increadably hot so even if it was made perfect in the manufactury they can easily warp in transit
The put FW should put the pieces in such box in the first place, for what people pay those warps are a bad joke.
Yes they should ship it in climate controlled containers OR JUST FUCK RESIN AND MAKE THE THING OUT OF MOTHAFUCKIN PLASTIC LIKE ALL OTHER MODELS THAT ARE NEITHER RESIN NOR METAL IT WOULD BE EASIER TO SHIP AND CHEAPER I GUESS.
Molds for plastic models are extremely expensive and the economies of scale only work out when you're selling a lot of models. The market for most FW models, let alone the Warlord, probably isn't big enough to be worth it. This is why metal and resin models are a lot more common, especially from smaller companies.
@@aesaar8057 at 4k per complete kit I dont think mold price is an issue. In fact long term they would still make back the cost of the molds after 20 orders easily. Plus if the coat dropped a lot they could sell far more than they do now.
Not an excuse for a $2000 piece!!
I am actually disappointed in forge world with those issues
FW stuff can be really solid or really off, have a reaver and 2 warhounds. One of the warhounds needed almost no extra work and the other only only needed a little work. The reaver took me about a week and the body needed a lot of heat. I used 1 minute poxy works great and gives you a good chuck of time to move stuff in place.
Thanks for uploading this. I've just bought a Warlord and the input on this video has been helpful. It gives the impression you really need to take your time with this model.
Thank you for sharing how to assemble the warlord propperly & get around the casting probs. I guess not everyone realizes that FW says the warlord requires advanced modeling skills. By watching this a hobbiest will know exactly which special tools theyll need to have their kit turn out right. Great job & keep up the good work
thanks man
Forgeworld translate ... advanced modeling skills ... into fixing their shitty casting skills ^_^
A tip for anyone working with large resin models. Invest in a Sous-Vide cooking bath. Essentially a thermostatically controlled water bath, they are ideal for heating resin parts...
it also comes in handy when cooking a meaty snack
I know you posted this ages ago so idk if you'll see this, but I actually already have a sous vide from cooking but can't find what temperature to set it at to soften resin. What temp do you go for?
@@Dasnubninja It's been a while, but I generally used a setting of 75*C +/- IIRC. Larger parts took higher temps, smaller stuff lower. The real trick was the timing - and that was more a "feel" thing, depending on the size of the part. One final thought - be sure to use something like a sieve or fryer cage to hold the parts while in the pot. 75*C water is definitely in the "Ouchdammit" range...
Hope that's somewhat helpful, & good luck... G
That sounds like something the producer should be doing at what this thing costs.
@@Kathie1410 MMMM meaty snack!
Now paint it using only an artificer brush.
In one sitting
umm that would last so long you would have to sit on the golden throne yunno so you could be able to live long enough to finish it...
OR BECOME A NECRON either way it works
Personally I would be overwhelmed if you would glue it all together and Then start painting it.for example the right arm upper but could be magnetized as well to take it off and paint itmore easily because I don’t see how you could get in between the torso and the inner side of the arm comfortably to paint it all. Thx for uploading the video. Learned a lot about do’s and don’ts
Well would you look at that, somebody else using those wicked little rose pruning shears for model hobbies =D
Grate video dude shocked at how much plastic was warped tho 😳 if I'd spent a grand on that kit I'd be sending that back
that titan costs a lot of money, but it is a beautiful work of military art that if you can buy it is to show it off in the living room. In my case I made myself one out of recycled slaughterhouse and it stands 35 inches tall with 5 variants of weapons inspired by ForgeWorld.
£1k of wonky plastic. Nice!
No try 4k for everything
Would be nice you can a batrep with this crazy guy :=)
Awesome video.
That scoring is also a good tiling techneque
What type of glue do you get the best results with when working with resin?
BSI purple cap is pretty legit.
Thats a huge model damn
Another lascannon apparently designed to shoot around corners. Guy from Midwinter Minis thinks Forgeworld is on the way out and with so many videos with warped resin pieces, I can understand why.
I mean honestly that’s nothing new they’ve been doing that shit for like 10 years
Torque is is rotational force that you seem to be confusing with linear force when using your clamps.
Hey Robbie would the gents at spikey Bits (yourself included) be interested in a commission build and paint of a warlord with all of the weapons magnetized so I can swap them out?
I mean we can talk more on it, sure! email or facebook us!
There're painting studio's that do that for a living you know!
Maybe use terrain and a base to help support the weight of the titan?
I prefer them in a walking pose, no base at all. It has pretty big feet and can be balanced very decent while holding a 'natural' pose.
Has anyone ever mechanized one of these and made it into a little BattleBots? It looks like there's a lot of room inside the model to fit servos, gyroscopes, pcbs, power supplies, etc
Cool idea
Have you ever run into some models that you had no choice but to return it cause of severe warping ?
might seem like a silly question but how do you paint a movable part without "gluing" it down with the paint?
I know its old but magnets
Just bought mine :D
Which number is yours? :-) And congrats! How did it go so far? I'd be afraid to assemble that monster. ;-(
Frickin Millionaire 🤣
Have you done one of these with a reaver?
nah sorry.
That thing is HUGE
Ah, the age old saying price sets expectations. For what I would have to pay for a Titan, you better get some good quality paperweight for it.
Especially if I’m getting 2 so someone can professionally spice up one in my colours.
The most expensive Plastic Bits there is.
-i thought it was pure gold with that price tag.
More like a bag off shit to me ...
Think it would be worth it to pin the toes to the foot?
how it used to be the largest commercially available Warhammer model, all hail the new king the Warmaster titan
I wonder if it’s possible to make him articulated tho
where can i get one pleaes
You can find the body, shoulder weapons, head, and arm weapons on Forge World
Thanks for the video, some really good techniques. This has completely turned me away from ever buying one of these models, purely from the fact that GW cannot seem to cast the pieces without warping (maybe it's a Banelord) them. For the price you pay it should be made to a much higher quality.
There are alternatives dude ^_^ Cheaper and way better.
Same here…. And the head is extra? Lolol I’m like whaaaat?! And they can’t be bothered to quality control check THE DOGGIE DOG SHIT out of it for that kind of money?! Come
On
I'm for one would like to get a Warlord Titan. Buuuuut. . Knowing how Forgeworld can be with their warping, or not, I mean their quality control can be good but shipping across seas and all that could've caused that as well. Something that large ohboy. . I'm crossing my fingers that the KX139 Armor suit won't give me hassle once it gets here.
were do you buy it !
this was purchased from Forge Word at Gencon many years ago in the states by a customer. I assembled it from them.
@@spikeybitstv ho tank you :D

THIN THAT PAINT.
Can we have a video when it's painted?
Is this the first Forgeworld model to cost more then the Manta?
Full price tag on this is 4k. I think even the Warhound titan still comes in around 1200. How does the Manta fare?
@@darkstorminc Warhounds are only about 550, This model for the full loadout is just under 2000.
@@Tibruk64 Yeah, Crash Overide must live in Austalia. I buy the Warlord Titan at 700,- euro's. Glue and paint about 300,- so at a totall of about 1000,- euro's. They're way better to build than this showen piece of sh.t Forgeworld kitt though! Mine (I have 8 now) actually where fun to put together and paint!
Is this a Forge World product?
Either way that thing is sick! You're gonna need a heck of a Battlefoam case for that bad boy!
yes bit is at about 1250 uk pounds
Yep, it is ^_^ Don't you recognice the poor casts?
Looks like ED209
I'm getting a leviathan dread nought since I'm just starting then I'm like wha... how.....
Are all forgeworld titans in need of tweeking with a heat gun when you get em? I'm getting close to buying one myself.
TBH ive never not used a heat gun on FW lol. But im also kinda anal... so there is that :)
Yep, they do!
Is this the forgeworld or wish version? Jeebus
Why are the larger models always made from resin wouldnt plastic be simpler to make?
Plastic moulds are 10000 to make resin 100 and not many people buy big models
Damn, that looks sweet! I need to hit the crack pipe and buy the Phantom.
The Phantom is actually a very nice kitt compaired to the Imperial Titans.
Great video hay can you show how to use a heat gun to fix the bens in the resin prices please thank you
Im going to sell my house and by this beauty
Николай Иванов Enjoy wasting money.
FancyLlamas You almost got the joke, better luck next time!
william timonen I was joking.
Plan on selling your car wife and kids as well for the TITANICUS upgrade pack🤣
Why do they use resin and not plastic?
Amazing. Every word of what you just said was wrong.
whitey211 because FW sells less models than GW, and everything about resin, including the molds is cheaper, so they make it out of resin to maximize profits.
Nice Video, but for that Price such a bad fitting…. that’s a bad joke! 😂

This is so awesome!
But I do sense a lot of negative feedback in the posts below. Unfortunately, most people have a hard time accepting that this is a hobby, and thus a luxury. And as all luxuries, its a privilege, not a right. A hard thing to accept in our modern day, when just about everyone think they should and could do anything they want at will.
Most of the negative feedback is about the crap quality control combined with the fact that the parts FW sends are more often than not either warped or bent. Being shipped a shit product that shouldn't have passed quality control is not 'luxury hobby' but just taking corporate dick up their ass with shit quality control
The model built actually runs close to $4k and for that price tag it had better be damn high quality with no warping etc. Hell for that price I would create my own molds so I could have more than one.
@@darkstorminc People did and are selling them for way less too.
@@MrSandor1968 yeah I found files to make a 3d printed one. No printer yet though, but will be good to go whenever I do get one.
You need some self respect
Close to $2,000 for a model and still not super quality in regards to fitting... 🤔😰
the worst part is those issues remain on the titan model and some people are still like "3d printing isn't ready for the table top quality' I've got a printed big metal walky boss that had far less issues
How the hell do pieces this big get this bent out of shape? And how does FW actually let them out the door in this state?
the heat of shipping bends them on the way
Good tips. Wooden dowls (Or matches as I like to call them.) are a good idea although I feel I pioneered the use of blu tak heh heh. Look forward to seeing your paint job Rob. Keep up the good work old bean.
Run mates we all gonna die!!
For the steel plates on the weapon elbow, why not just cut the plates smaller than the resin in the first place? That way you don't need to trim them after.
Also I would actually use a slow-drying glue for the magnets, not a fast one. Then you can put the weapon in the mount, and let the magnets align to the metal as they dry. Perfect alignment every time.
You put the finger tips on the fist backwards.
Man that thing must cost hundreds!
Thousands bud..

Good job!...
-The fun is in the journey to the end product right?
For the PRICE, I'd say they could do with a bit more QualityControl on ForgeWorlds/GW's end!?...Jeez!
I work in 1/35th scale military armored vehicles & a fair amount of resin aftermarket sets, so a bit of heating/massaging is sometimes needed & expected with the resin stuff &/or larger pieces....
~BUT~ for the $$$ involved with one of these, I'd be more than a bit disappointed if I had to heat/re-set /level/bend almost every single large piece!...Some filling/putty is expected, but THAT MUCH?!
They, GW/FW, like most all corporate entities, are all about PROFIT first & foremost, & obviously arent taking the proper time, or possibly the right ham-fisted British gorilla to correctly & carefully get these outtve the molds & have a temp controlled environment for the parts to cure/set up in before tossin 'em in a box for end users packaging/shipping...
Glass blowers need to anneal their works after creating, bringing the temp down slowly so warpage, brittleness & damage doesnt happen...Although 2 part catalyst resin(s) is a chemical reaction, there IS a proper way to do so to avoid ridiculous amounts of un-needed warpage.
Its like they just pour, pop,....ahem, I mean: >WRENCH< them out of the molds-(Which is HARD on molds themselves, as you can only get a finite amount of castings outtve each mold, before needing to construct more for future castings)- then just toss the banana shaped part that supposed to be flat & level in a big box with zero care as to how it sits, or additional weight bearing down on the part from above while the resin itself is still curing?!...It MAY SEEM "Set" & hard on the outsidem but its still curing throughout its entire depth...Seems kindve carele$$?....
-But Im sure theres some Ahole "Management-CompanyYesMan" type crackin the whip on the poor sods tasked with pop'n these out in groups in record time?
Im not so into WH40K gaming/models-(Aside from sharing a name w/a WH40K "fictitious" character-TRUTH so often masquerades as "fiction";)- The lore is certainly interesting, as it is both very REAL in some aspects, & allegorical in others-(Read/Listen to: The Wes Penre Papers/Levels Of Learning" series for our galactic history)- Youll find PLENTY of parallels between the WH40K "fictional" universe & our own very complex & REAL multiverse!
But as an artist, I enjoy the design & other craftsmen assembling & painting such according to ones own wants &/or needs....
Nice work dude!
~Grab some BSI CA glue accelerator, it REALLY helps to set that same glue youve used/any CA glue QUICKLY...-(Dont drink it/absorb thru skin though, itll make your Sea-Monkeys swim in retarded tight circles &/or give them X's for eyeballs-the future wife may want to spawn with ya someday;)-
What have we learned today, don't buy a warlord titan that's right
Wrong! Don't buy a Warlord Titan from Forgeworld!
@@MrSandor1968 where would you suggest looking at one?
Fun fact: The model of the warlord weighs as much as a real warlord titan.
im 13 years old ALL THE MONEY IVE EARNED IN MY ENTIRE LIFE COULDNT AFFORD A WARLORD TITAN
I'm almost 14 and I can't afford a small SMALL army of space marines. #feel your pain sort of.
I dont own such a titan and I play Orks and Necrons not Imperium why am I here?
Alan Dak Because scouting?
Because this titan is just that fucking cool.
For the sheer amount of dakka
Gundan model kits are way better boi
Not everyone is into the whole Japanese thing
God if i recieved a Warlord (that is over ONE THOUSAND USD) with that many GLARING issues I'd either demand a refund or replacement parts. That's ridiculous, the amount of issues.
Forge world ain’t what it used to be, just ask Squidmar about his manta lol
Ip
You MUST have an original Forgeworld Titan here! Mine (and I have like 8 now) went all together with minor ajustments. Just saying ... ^_^
Where do you buy one?
I thought you could only buy them off forgeworld
Chinese or European recasters…. And yes , i bought Acastus Knight that was higher quality then FW original..
For the warlord titan, put speakers instead of the rockets. Voilá, you now have a sonic titan
pay 2000 for a titan and they can't even keep QA on it
Hey does anyone know what I need book wise in order to play emperors children
Sauce Top 10 In 40k you only "need" the codex, but in Traitor Legions you can find the rules you need if you want to use Emperors Children specific rules. In 30k I think you just need the first book?
With that price tag, the quality is just horrible...
Yeah but thats FW. They dont care about warping.
Wait till you have issues with service. Then it really becomes a pain.
It's not just warping, level of details is low and general cast quality looks "meh" at best.
really? I had nothing but pleasant experiences with forge world customer services.
wow, I'm looking at the detail on this model and just wondering if you've ever been satisfied with anything in your life. I mean "for this money it should be made of gold not plastic" kind of complaining is why you can only please some of the people all of the time. There's a ton of superfluous detail on this model yet it's still not enough.
I don't mean to be nasty or anything, but you aren't quite appreciating how difficult it is to design a model like this. They could have saved a fortune and just produced a preformed model but that's not what the hobby is about. Instead, what you are looking at is one of the most if not the most complicated model top build that has ever existed. That's what people are paying for.
Complexity makes things difficult and expensive... it's fundamental to the law of diminishing returns. It's difficult to do, but they did it and you should be grateful for that because it'd be easier to just say Warlord Titans are impossible to profit from so we'll never make them.
@@Brascofarian
I would suggest you greatly underestimate the abilities of humans.
While possibly making excuses for a company becuase you deem it as a Facit of your personality.
its a shame its resin and not plastic. resin is garbage or else i would get one.
Lmao. All that $$$ for shitty cast resin. GW are geniuses.
Why the hell dude wanted his titan to be assembled not by himself?
$1500-$2000 for a Titian with warped ass parts, that you have to put togeather, AND paint? Wtf games workshop. Forgeworld, whoever, that's totally unacceptable.
Fore A 1 thousand plus model, you would expect A far better quality for the price. To put it perspective, for the money you spend on this model you could take A class at A community college. 🤔
Cry in mecha
for something that costs over a 1000 dollars the production quality seems pretty abyssmal... Id send it back if all the stuff is so warped you cant even build it out of the box. Thats just dumb to me.
Why do people bother buying these crap kits from Forge World? I mean are not the sellers supposed to check fit these kits prior to selling them, well obvious to me the one your building was never checked and doubt if any others are.
Complete waste of money for a hunk of resin.
Because, QA issues aside, it's a really, really nice model, and for some people, it's worth it. I guarantee you've spent money on stuff other people would consider a waste.
For my part, my Warlord had no meaningful warping issues like this one does. I guess I got lucky.

Quality is important to some people still
Fuck that. Too much unnecessary work due to shitty quality control. Pass.
It is outrageous, scandalous, that you pay a fortune to games workshop, and the quality of the product is shit.
kezdo40000 not games workshop bud
Not games workshop its forge world it sells more but is 4 times the price and 10 times shutter quality but is slowly getting better as a few more people buy things of them they can make plastic moulds instead of resin which is bad
Forge World is GW. It's not a separate company or a subsidiary, it's the name of a design studio within GW.
why people spending an upwards of 1000 pound into this?? people been saying pirates one is cheaper and better.....
There is no warlord titan pirate.
